Well, I have both machines have run 1000s of feet of moulding through both machines. The Shop Fox has held up and produces a better quality end product than the American made Hussy. It has bigger castings and a larger table than the hussy. I really do not care how much the machine will re-sell for in 20 years if I have had 20 years of use out of it producing a better product than the American made version.

Thanks for sharing this. I like to buy USA made goods but I have looked at both and am leaning toward the Shop Fox. The one I am looking at is made in Taiwan and yes this was once part of China but they have been making woodworking equipment there for many decades and quality seems very good. Also, I have talked with several people who own Shop Fox pieces and they are happy with their machines. Also the Shop Fox almost 1/2 the price.

I'm surprised that you diss the hussy if it's good enough for this old house guys it's more than good enough for me

It's not that it's bad but it's twice the cost of the shop fox and less machine

I think I gave about 1500 for the Shop Fox, if you look around you can get a used Hussy but I would look for one with the adjustable feed, the fixed is ok for back cuts but the cut quality is lacking

Hello, thanks for your videos man. Really helpful. Does your hussey have multi pass? And do you use it?

Nice review. There nice moulder's. You will always see with Made in USA tools in the 90"s the material on them have less mass. In the End the Imports will always have more mass. Everything this cut in half when it come labor and price of material. I always try to buy USA made, weather the price between the import and Home made is huge, but when I compare the two moulder's I have to give to shop fox. It's a very nice moulder. Keep the vidz coming, Take Care, Michael Frey.

That is why I like my 18 inch woodmaster. Yep, it comes with a 5hp motor. I will make mouldings up to 16 inches wide and can do curved no problem at all.

I guess people can watch my videos and read your comments and decide who's more credible. Feel free to post your own video about which product you like better.

Have you ever set up either molder to make round dowels? I have a huge surplus of 5/8" and thinner hardwood and just need something to make out of the wood to get some Cash. Thinking of buying one of these little molders. Thoughts?

I thought about a wood master but I found a source for Hussy knives dirt cheap (place went out of business) I got 150 or so sets. I think I may get a logosol 4 head next

Hello, great video, thanks for the info. I’m currently looking for a machine and wondering if the shop fox w1812 would still be your go-to? Or is there another model that would be worth upgrading to. I’ll be using this mostly for personal projects and restoring a Victorian house. Thanks!

There might be better machines out now its been 10 years since I was using that machine

I have both the upgraded W&H and the SHOPFOX. I got the later 'cause I thought it was better. Wrong! The spring rollers on the SHOPFOX don't allow too much of opening rendering it almost useless. Agreed: the W&H looks really bad comparing to the handsome cabinet of the other and the price of it is a third of the earlier; they have to refine that machine in order to make competitive against the W&H. Will look forward to it! Coco

Thanks for the witty insights. Let me know when you start uploading your own videos, because I'd love to hear more from you. Also thank you for driving up my view count with all the videos of mine you're apparently watching. I really appreciate it.

If you need to do moulding you choose thickness that will do it nicely no need moulding machine seprately nowdays moulding is less everything done in router.

I was thinking about adding a moulder to my shop collection. I have several friends who build houses and was wondering if there would be any money in making my own crown molding... Any way to compete with a big box stores? Thanks!!

Hey there..So now that you had the Shop Fox Molder for a while.. would you recommend it? Does it seem to have enough power? I'm a small cabinet shop..

enjoyed the vid but you cant legitimately compare a 5hp machine to a 2 hp machine (which from what i hear is a very weak 2 hp) Im looking into the woodmaster 750 PM any experience with woodmasters?

Woops... Trying to give this a thumbs up but have it down. Think that was a good move ditching the W&H and getting a big joiner. The only reason I got my W&H was it came with $3K in knives and could not get knives separately.

I am a professional woodworker.I bought a W&H moulder a few years back,paid about $2,300.00.Nothing was assembled and the base looked like something my son would make in high school shop class. I felt sick.The $250.00 elliptical guide was a joke,particle board with some galvanized angle iron that looked like off the shelf parts from a hardware store.,I work hard for my money and I don't care where a machine or tool is made as long as it is quality.I returned it for a 12" Powermatic joiner.

I've got a powermatic 16 inch jointer. It's terrible for making moldings. It's awesome for jointing wood, especially face jointing wide boards. I've also got a W&H. It's terrible for jointing anything. But I use it for producing moldings. I don't understand the point you're trying to make. And I happen to love machines designed with off the shelf parts. I loved my Woodmizer sawmill. I could go to the local hardware store and replace parts without paying for special propietary parts. Same with my CNC, which was designed over ten years ago by a canadian company with just that in mind. I replace parts at the hardware store. My sliding table saw is Italian, and any parts I need come through Colonial Saw up there in Ct. It's a cumbersome and expensive process. Things don't need to be fancy to be efficient and do their job. Love my W&H, have reproduced whole houses full of old no longer available profiles, which I have custom ground for small money. And, because they're unique, I can get top dollar for those profiles. I guess I see my business differently than you.

Sorry I hurt your feelings. I didn't realize that my choice of moulder affected you so deeply. In addition to my foreign-made moulder I also own a Japanese car, a German tractor, and a Japanese tractor and I'd love to know your opinion about those, too.

I have a W&H moulder, wondering if the Shop Fox variable speed kit will bolt on the Hussey. I can get a Shop Fox variable speed kit from Grizzly for less than half the cost from W&H. Just not sure if the gear box has the same bolt pattern.

Grizzly imports, Laguna imports, Jet imports, Delta imports, Powermatic imports, Rikon imports, Shop Fox imports, Felder who many consider the best is European import........as well as many not mentioned ......what the heck.......the question is who doesn't import.....? The answer Williams and Hussey. If the machine works for you and is in your budget......buy it.....whether it be import or US made at least the wood item manufactured for self or business was US made. Want all your items US made then you will have to make them yourself. Oil is imported, clothes are imported, many car parts are imported. .....etc. Bottom line is most people are going to buy what works for them and is in their budget. Shop Fox at half the cost is going to be the one in most people's budget. Sorry to say The days of affordable American made are over. This is just my personal opinion and I know every situation is different, but if I was going to operate a wood molding business I think I would consider the Woodmaster. And they are US made.

I have been getting some request to do moulding too. I'm thinking of getting a moulder. I'm looking at the shop fox, and WoodMaster 718. How much did you pay for the Shop Fox??? As much as I would like to get A MADE USA machine, I like the shop fox design more. They made a compact machine which is nice. Being that my wood shop has been complete for a couple years, I have to find a spot for it. If you had to chose between the SHOP FOX and Wood Master which one would you go with? Take Care, Mike

That is pretty crappy service. I am guessing they are still surviving because they have the made in the US going for them.
@cuskit

Where it's made is not the point. You post videos that are viewed by thousands, and mislead them into your belief that one machine is superior to another based on a couple of home projects you've dabbled with. I'm just saying those in the industry show more credibility than a home hobbyist. You should refrain from influencing others based on your meager experiences. Stick to what you do best - building a tool "show & tell" shop rather than a real working shop that show profits from production...
@cuskit
@cuskit 12 лет назад
Sigh... While they are at it - show them the botched doors on your Arts & Craft project. Little tip - styles run through, rails fit in between... Centuries of craftsman doing it right and you want to dispute credibility. Later dude, I'm out of here..
