@@Enrese27He meant it's virtually impossible for the batter to not hit the catcher, because of where the catcher was set up. He wasn't talking about the batter hitting the pitch.
@@JimYeatshe is speaking to the fact certain pitchers are hard too catch for. The closer to the plate the shorter the distance. The shorter the distance the less amount the ball call break drop or curve. Thus making less catching errors (dropped, missed balls)
@@beauli1928 he had his head busted open on a backswing. When does he tell the idiot coaches to shut up. he and his brother are really good at what they do behind the plate, it's their bat that needs help.
@@dalethelander3781 gee let me read my comment again, blah blah blah blah nope, learn to read. Didn't say that at all. What I said he doesn't need any help with his defense that IF the coaches want to help to do it with his hitting. Never said he can't but he is not as good of a hitter than he is as a fielder so IF he could use help it's with his bat. He is to inconsistent in that area while his fielding has always been good and steadily betting better. He goes on hot streaks and the cold streaks last longer than the hot ones.
Uh... because it LOOKS like a backswing? Obviously they're not talking about it literally being called a backswing, because that's a golf term and the way he swings the bat looks like the way a golfer would swing.
They want to catch the ball before it breaks so much that it's too difficult to frame. It gives better control of the strike zone if they catch it as close as possible. Not that I agree with it though.
The coaches told him to move closer. They tried to re teach him the position. It’s on them, and cardinals fans have been saying forever it’s time for new management
What the heck are they saying "backswing" for? It was the middle of the swing! Contreras was so far up he hit Contreras' arm so far ahead of the pitch the bat wasn't even angled at the ball yet!
It would ALWAYS be catcher's interference. There is no other possible call that could ever be made. The batter can do anything he wants with his bat to go for a ball.
@Voidepicgamer exactly. And the coaching in STL is abysmal. They have managed to take some of the best ball players in the league and ruin them. Nolan Arenado is the prime example. No wonder Yadi won't show his face anywhere near this team now
I broke my left arm twice. Bad memories and pain. In 1st grade i shattered my elbow in pieces, i remember staying up all night on drugs and it felt like a week. It was a living nightmare. Then again in 7th grade i broke my wrist and it was almost sticking out of the skin. When the dr grabbed my arm and pulled the bone back into place it was horrible....😢 👦
Yeah that's terrible he obviously had his arm too far into the path of the batter's swing with the batter also probably moved back in the box as an adjustment mid at bat and the catcher didn't notice.
There have been WAYYYY too many instances of catcher’s interference this year. What are guys being taught?! You can frame very well catching it deeper, too
You'd think. But there's this little thing the Cards want him to get better at called "framing." Trying to fool the umpire into calling a ball a strike.
@@dalethelander3781 Imagine if umps called balls or strikes based on where the ball travels and not on what the catcher is doing with his glove. I get that framing currently works, but it shouldn't.
Im sure that sucked. Being flexed about to catch with your hand held open. Theres more than just a fracture in there im sure. But as an STL fan...... back up!! Wtf is wrong with you?! 🙄
@usboneman663 it's 100% the coaching. I just can't believe he put himself there anyway.I'm hoping the brewers sweep stl right now because I've seen quite a few things now talking about how if that happens, Oli will be looking for a new job(we can hope). But realistically, unless Mo goes too, nothing will change
MLB catcher routinely get a little too close to the action. You get a large batter with long arms and a long bat and a long swing and you gotta give him some extra space.
@@joetoth5465 People often recommend Romans after John. Proverbs is good too. If you aren't saved you should watch a video called the Bible way to Heaven.
When you have Catchers moving CLOSER to the Plate to FRAME a " BALL to look like a STRIKE " Prepare to see more of this. He Broke his arm when hit by the bat and when he heals up is going to keep doing this. SO HE SAY'S to try and help his team win.... WTF See a NEW RULE coming soon to all ball parks near you MLB.
How can a big league catcher be that dumb? The LL coach had me try catching once in practice. First pitch.... I get hit with the bat in the back of my glove hand. Duh! Everyone thought my hand broke, but it was fine.
He is literally trying to snatch the ball out of the air before the batter gets a chance to hit it. Guess he won’t be pulling that BS anymore. He should just set up in front of the batter, halfway to the pitcher’s mound.
😯Unfortunate accident but the catcher, as some other fellows have mentioned here, got way too close to the home plate. Now he is going to be out the game for at lest six weeks. 🤕
Coaches are telling catchers to move up in the box because it's easier to frame pitches and take away the view from the home plate umpire. Can't blame the hitter on that one.. Hopefully it will be a wake up call for organizations to have their Catchers in the proper position from now on.
Why hasn’t there been a line put in place that the catcher can’t cross. Contreras didn’t used to do this but his pitch framing stats were really bad. Every catcher is scooting up to steal strikes because if they don’t they will fall behind the other catchers that do. JUST DRAW A LINE!!!
Everybody rightly pointing out Contreras reached too far with his glove. Doubtful he did that intentionally, tho. Just bizarre. Dude's probably caught 100,000 pitches if not more.
Wonder what he was thinking just sticking his arm over the plate like that. I dont follow baseball but i am assuming this guy is a pro thats been playing baseball his whole life. So what was he thinking?
His coaches ordered him to do this to increase the chance of using "framing" to fool the home plate umpire into calling an outside pitch a strike instead of a ball.
The was a rookie or old veteran mistake by placing the arm way forward of the plate...trying to collect on that permanent disability payment Either way, it worked
