Wilson Clash v2 got better. Not by a big chunk, but still they feel better, have better stability and precision. Now they can compete even on a more serious level of play including tournaments and team play, college etc. I feel like these rackets are updated for the people who need extra power, great comfort but they still want to have the feel and control over the ball. And the awesome design is an extra plus.

Hi, I’m looking for some advice. I had a practice with the Clash 100 v1 lite and I loved it for grounds strokes, not so much volleys, I felt like you really had to hit in the centre of the racquet and it was quite unforgiving (volleying is my weakest though). My current racquet is the Yonex Ezone lite at 270g. Before this I had wrist issues but I have developed tennis elbow. I loved the clash so much and would love to get one of the v2 (if I’m going to spend I’d rather an improved version) but my question is do you think the lite or the clash 100 v2? I play at a fairly decent club level, I’m 40, 5ft 6 slim build but play a lot against males and I’m looking for more power while hopefully helping my tennis elbow and not aggravating my wrist again. Apologies this is so long 🙃
@CzechTennisGuy
@CzechTennisGuy 2 года назад
Hi Lisa, actually a very interesting question and I thank you for it. It may help also others. First of all the specs of the Ezone 100L are closer to the specs of regular Clash 100 v2 regarding the swingweight. Ezone has SW 310 and Clash has 313. So I would not suggest you go for the Clash 100L v2, because it will actually degrade your game a little bit in terms of stability and overall power. The second point is that lighter rackets usually have issues on volleys, because there is not enough mass to provide stability for the head. On volleys you are not swinging the racket but only blocking the ball and you need a racket with heavier frame to be more successful. I think on volleys is the Ezone 100L much better because it has more weight in the head. And regarding the wrist issues - it often happens with lighter rackets because they are more shaky and all the vibrations reach the handle much easier than with the heavier frames. Once again, lightweight material tends to vibrate more and can cause wrist problems and injuries. That's why so many amateurs have these issues. And of course wrong technique can play a major role in this problem. To sum it up, If you are on a decent club level, you play with males, there is no reason why not to try the regular Clash 100 v2. In my review I mentioned that this racket is perfect for women, because it has enough mass and weight, but with very pleasant balance to the hand, that is ideal for intermediate to advanced women. Don't be afraid and go for it! Let me know your reaction after you test it/buy it.

Good review. Do you know, what creates the different frame weights? Is the graphite a different thickness for each frame? Or do they add weight internally using the same frame mould?

Thank you. That's a great question that I don't really have answer for. I think that the mold is for each of the versions (weights) different a little bit to really make it to the desired specifications. But I never saw a detailed explanation on this topic. @CzechTennisGuy
@CzechTennisGuy 2 года назад
@@jockegustafsson Yes and no. It depends on what kind of player you are. If you are more experienced, advanced level player, you will definitely need a more control oriented strings, especailly with the Pro version. I highly recommend shaped poly, like the Black Code 1.28 mm from Tecnifibre. Remember the Clash rackets are very flexible and powerful. Lower tension makes them even more powerful. The Luxilon Smart string that was recommended for the first gen of Clash was good, but when you pushed the racket to the limits, it was too flexible and unpredictable. Smart string should be strung about 19-22 kg at max. to make the string work properly due to it's unusual behaviour and "auto control" of the tension. But with any other standard poly, you should string it at higher tension in my opinion to gain control over the shots.

Hi Tennis Guy! Thank you for your video! I’ve been playing for 2 and a half years consistently (I played two years when I was 10), starting to play tournaments and all and I have a Babolat boost aero that I bought when I started playing again. I want to upgrade to a better racquet but the main issue that I care about it that I suffered from tennis elbow a lot last year, so I thought the Wilson clash would be a great option. But I’m not sure if the regular version or the 100L would be the best choice. I train consistently and I think i can generate a lot of power but I don’t know if going from 260gr to 295gr will be too much. I want to buy a racquet that will be useful for a couple of years, so should it go for the regular one and take some time to get used to it o directly to the 100L? Thanks!
@CzechTennisGuy
@CzechTennisGuy Год назад
Hi Sofi, first of all I checked your channel and you have nice songs there, so I hope you still enjoy creating them. Regarding the racket. It's always tough when someone has problems with elbow. It's not always about the racket. Softer strings, hybrids and multifilaments can help solve the problem. It's always good you try the racket for yourself. But I assume you maybe struggle with the stiff rackets like the Babolat Boost Aero and similar ones. Clash is a great option if you want some extra comfort and easy power. Even the first generation v1 is great for that purpose so you don't really need to buy the newest model. But If you want and you like the new design, it's a good choice. Even the regular 100 is light enough for almost anybody due to the hand heavy balance. I also tried the 100L and I was really surprised how well I could hit with the racket even though I'm on a higher level of tennis. So yes, probably the 100L will suit you the best and the "women" design is a nice bonus. If you continue improving you can always upgrade to a heavier racket later so it's better for your elbow to start upgrading slowly. Have fun with your new racket and keep up the great music work!

Yesterday I test a Clash V2 Pro and I love it! Much more controlled than Clash V1 295 g version which I also tried some time ago. The think is that after one and a half hour I felt my arm very tired and today it hurts a little. Is it normal when changing from a 285 g racquet? I am 1,73 tall and 68 kg, slim but not very fit

Yes, it is normal. Remember that the Clash 100 Pro v2 has 325 swingweight, which is actaully a lot. Your previous 285 g racket has probably swingweight around 300. So the increase in swingweight is massive. Work more on your physique, use rubber bands to strenghten your upper body part and it will improve rapidly.

I have the UL since its strung weight is 281g and tbh I don't like 300g racquets yet, even if I used to play using a Head with that weight (but was too much for me). Also, in my case I have tendonitis so this UL racquet is perfect - just a suggestion, consider unstrung/strung weights, even the L will go up till 300g once strung.

Thanks for good review. I have been playing with Clash 100 Pro/Tour for almost 2 years and I really like it for the comfort and good compromise between power and spin. The control is a bit of an issue, maybe not so much on the groundstrokes, but instability at volleys really is a downside with the racquet. I usually don't go to the net too often, so it doesn't affect my game that much, but it sucks when I am playing doubles. One thing is that I should be training volleys much more, but also the racquet is not really helping to overcome my net struggles. I demoed the Clash 98 v2 last week, because the 100 Pro version was not available for testing at the time in my local Wilson store. It will be ready for me next week, so I am looking forward to it. However, the 98 v2 was not too bad at all. It felt quite different as I couldn't produce much spin (probably would need more time to get used to it and to adjust my forehand motion). But it was more powerful and precise than my Clash 100 Pro v1, I played some great flatter winners and also some shots played from defence that really caught my opponent off guard thanks to the power that surprised both of us. Also the sound was very crisp and satisfying. But the main difference were volleys, playing them felt much more stable and for a while a thought I was actually good at volleying :) My goal is to move forward more often so I need this kind of upgrade. On the other hand, I want to have the great spin of the old 100 Pro. So I wonder if the lack of it was because of the 98 square head which I am not used to playing with, or is it the extra cross string? I wouldn't think one string can have such an impact and I really hope the 100 Pro v2 will be a bit more similar to 100 Pro v1 when it comes to spin, while bringing in the control on the volleys which you also mentioned in your review. Also, like you said in the video, I couldn't really find my best serving with the 98 v2, my first serve percentage was really poor and made some erratic doubles as well. I thought it was because of the smaller racquet head and not being able to spin the ball like I can do with the old 100 Pro. Be it's probably something I can solve when I get used to the new racquet. Overall I was quite happy with the demo, I liked it more than Blade v8, which I also demoed recently, both in 16x19 and 18x20 versions. I will stick with Clash for sure and I also think the progress and innovation in this version is going in good direction. I can't wait to try the 100 Pro v2 and if it's somewhere in the middle between the old version and the 98 v2, I will definitely buy one when the price drops a bit.
@CzechTennisGuy
@CzechTennisGuy 2 года назад
Thanks for the deep analysis. It's definitely the smaller headsize that makes the spin hard to produce with the 98 version. With the 100 Pro v2 it feels like they've hit the sweetspot between precision, power, stability and spin. The bigger head leaves enough room for the strings to move and snapback for a greater spin. The great thing about the 16x20 pattern is that you have better control over the amount of spin you want to use. Sometimes with the 16x19 pattern i feel like the spin takes control over my shots too much in situations I need a flatter and faster shot. So yes, I think you're gonna love the Clash 100 Pro v2.
@patrikmarflak6559
@patrikmarflak6559 2 года назад
@@CzechTennisGuy That's would be perfect, thank you. Can't wait to demo the 100 Pro v2. If it's like you say and the volleys are such an upgrade from v1 than it's definitely my new racquet :) "i feel like the spin takes control over my shots too much in situations I need a flatter and faster shot" - I know this very well. The spin of Clash v1 is great when I want to play short angles, but sometimes I want to hit a flat one down the line in the open court for a fast winner or approach shot and it really sucks when the ball gets too much spin and the opponent gets the extra time and height to play a passing shot. And if I deliberately hit flat ball with no spin, it often ends up in the net or outside the lines. I felt with the 98 v2 that I was able to finish the points more effectively in the open court which was very satisfying. Also I forgot to ask about your t-shirt - are you Czech or how did you get to owning it? Greetings from Bratislava :)

Maybe try the Boom rackets from Head - start with the MP version and if you feel like you need more pop and precision, go ahead and jump to the Pro version. They are for more experienced beginners and intermediate players. Better feel, great stability and good precision. Sweetspot is big enough and the power from these frames is more control oriented. You might enjoy this switch. But beware, that these Boom rackets require that more power is generated from you.

What about the clash 98 v2?
@CzechTennisGuy
@CzechTennisGuy 2 года назад
I didn't try it so I can't tell. I have to say I didn't like it when I reviewed it for the V1 generation. Somehow the smaller head fealt weird for this type of powerful frame. I suggest the 100 versions are much better.
@LarzB

@@CzechTennisGuy i had both the v1 100 as well as the 98 and while the 100 felt more flexible and forgiving, the 98 felt more stable and more powerful because of the firmer response. According to tw the ra of the 98 is 60, so the same as the blade v8. So only the head shape and beam thickness are obvious differences between the clash v2 98 and the blade v8. I play currently with a blade v8 18x20 and am wondering how the clash v2 98 16x20 compares
@CzechTennisGuy

@@LarzB Yep, the 98 v2 will be similar to Blade v8 but more forgiving and more powerful because of the 16x20 pattern.

I'm a 3.5 female (5'5 & 108 pounds) doubles player with Tennis elbow after having rotator cuff tendinitis; do you think that the clash 100 V2 or Clash 100 V2 Lite would be better after coming out of a Head power instinct oversized 110 which is super lite? Thanks!
@CzechTennisGuy
@CzechTennisGuy 10 месяцев назад
Hi Shari, definitely the Clash 100 V2 will give you great amount of power with a lot better control and better comfort. The Instinct series by Head is a very stiff racket and it's probably the only series that I personally don't like at all. So give the Clash V2 a shot, it should be a lot gentle to your arm. 😉

Clash 100 Pro v Ezone 98?

The Clash is an unmitigated disaster for Wilson. V2 is too heavy for its target audience. And stiffer. Still, no one on tour is using it and I see very few in the clubs. Virtually non-existent among men, but I do see some ladies using it.

Good observation. I believe and I said that in my review, that V2 is a better racket compared to V1. It's actually too good in some points. I think there are several reasons why Clash v2 is practically invisible among all categories of players. 1.Point: It lost it's identity. The racket is too performance oriented now for beginners or pure amateurs. But still it's not suitable for regular club level players with tournament ambitions, because it's too powerful and lacks the feel and precision of other classic frames. 2. Point: The lifecycle of rackets overall is in real life much longer than 2-3 years, especially for products that revolutionized the industry. Only rich people can afford changing a racket on a regular basis for newer versions. Most people play with a racket +5 years. 3. Point: Why would you change a racket for something that is harder for you to use? For people who enjoy V1, V2 doesn't make sense. 4. Point: Design of the V2 is aimed for women. Most men won't even look at the rackets as it doesn't suit the male preferences. Design was a huge mistake in my opinion. They should have made two options - Pro version in black color for men and red classic 295g version for women. Now they came up with the Night Session version of Clash 100, but no Pro version to boost the sales, but I think it's too late. 5. Point: Clash rackets have bad reputation among advanced level players and that won't change. People feel that this racket is a gimmick that takes away the freedom of your game, the variety of shots, the feel and touch. That is something you can't change with some upgrade. I can't imagine that Blade, Pro Staff, or Head Speed players switch to this frame. No reason for that. I think the sensation that came from Clash V1 has dissapeared a little bit. For the owners of V1 changing to V2 can be frustrating and finding a new customer is in todays racket world almost impossible. I hope Head will learn from this and they will not come up with Boom v2 in couple of years. For sure they will follow the 2-3 year cycle, but I hope it will be in a way that respects current owners of Boom rackets and will offer the very same experience but in a new package. Thanks for you comment, appreciate it.

Hello! First of all I would like to thank you for this comparission. It is very interesting for me like all your content, for me you make most professional comparissions (for example Wilson Clash Quality Control Test which is also very interesting to me). I have a question to you (also sorry for my english, it is not my language :) Im 33 year old, I have 66-67 kilograms and 175 cm. I start my adventure with tennis. Im real beginner, I played couple times in my life, but now I want to play regullar, I think I have coordination, I play football often. I want to buy a racket with I can play a lot of time, I don't wanna buy cheap racket which i must change for a one year or two, I wanna buy good and solid racket for a long time using and use it also when I practice tennis more. Also I want to play with this racket in future like intermediate player. I thinking about Wilson Clash. But I have a real problem, because I cant decide what to choose. Im thinking about two models: Wilson Clash 100 v2 and Wilson Clash 100L v2. Which of this racket will be best choice for me? Im worried that 295 g will be to much for me (because im very skinny person with small hands and weight only 67 kilograms) but also I worried that 280 g may be not enough later. What is your opinion? Which version should I choose? Is Wilson Clash series good choice or you suggest another series or brand? Greetings from Poland! :)

@CzechTennisGuy Год назад
Hello to Poland! First of all, sorry for my late response. Definitely go for the regular Clash 100 v2. It is light enough even for a male beginner and it will help you in the future to better develop. The 100L version is better for ladies. Good luck with your tennis journey!
