According to the book " Wilt 1962 , the dawn of a new era" Wilt could clean and jerk 375 and deadlift 625 when he weighed 260 pounds which appears to be around this time . My lord. For a 7'1 260 pound basketball player with a 7'8 wingspan to lift this kind of weight while being this lean and chiseled . Wilt was a straight fucking BEAST . It's a complete utter joke to compare any other legend of the game to him in terms of pure raw physical prowress
Definitely ahead of his time in that era but 260 at 7’1 is a thin frame with some muscle. No way he’s clean and jerking 375 lol he’d probably get bodied by Shaq or Ben Wallace in the paint plus That’s like saying todays NFL players can’t compare to Jim Brown or Walter Payton . Defenses are so much faster stronger Jim and Walter not having their way like they did back in the days they were just ahead of their era
@@iamaniner916 no way, no way. Dude! That's why it's amazing! Some people are just strong. There's a video of Shaq almost getting his arm ripped off by Wilt casually shaking his hand. Watch that video and get back to me.
I never realized how truly physically imposing Wilt Chamberlain was until I saw a reddit post sizing up a 22 year old Harlem Globetrotter Wilt in 1958 and a 20 year old Dwight Howard in 2006 . Wilt just towers over him . Wilt was 7'1.06 without shoes while Dwight was listed at 6'9 barefoot despite being " 6'11" . Wilt would be like 7'3 in today's shoes
HE IS BEST ATHLETE, GOAT AND GOD. NOBODY EVER WILL BE NEAR HIM IN BILLION YEARS. MEDIA TRY TO SELL CHINA SHOES THATS WHY PUSH NARRATIVESD BOUT FAKE PLAYERS LIKE MJ, BRON, KOBE,...BUT REAL GOD AND GOAT IS WILT RIP.
@@trunks4139 he’s lean…. But freeze it and look again at his lats, shoulders and traps…. Very dense lean muscle like a strong boxer… this guy was a genetic machine who know how to strength train to boot… strongest player ever by ‘67.
@@kelvinkloud Exactly. Wilt was super lean and was not only super strong, "Dip" was really fast. Maybe if Wilt was 6'1" at that size he might be strong to a degree but Wilt was over 7'2" with shoes on so proportionately Wilt was huge. I'm old and saw Wilt play back in the day and I can say he's the biggest dude I've ever seen. Wilt could run like a deer, pick up Arnold Shwarzeneger like it was nothing, and dunk from the free throw line and only needed to take a few steps before he took off from the free throw line. The dude was different in a big way.
This dude would be the steph curry of centers if he played today. I recon 3pt line didn't exist when he played. There is also a video of him taking hook shots from the 3point line.
It's widely known that Wilt dunked his FT's in high school and as a freshman at U. Kansas. Tex Winter (MJ's assistant coach with Chicago) was the head coach at Kansas State, and head of the NCAA rules committee. He informed all the members of witnessing Wilt do this and they felt it would ruin the game because he would dunk, and make 100%, his FT's. They changed the rule in 1956, that a FT MUST be released from behind the line. Mr. Winter has told this story many times, in fact there is an interview (BBall Breakdown, I believe still has a video of it on YT). There have been other NCAA players that witnessed it back then, that have also stated this as true.
For an individual with a vast amount of basketball knowledge I believe you're a little delusional.. But as for me just a guy with just above average insight on basketball I 100% disagree that he could dunk from the free throw line..Why you may say🤷 Proof.. There's absolutely no video evidence of him actually doing this incredible feat..Yes coaches/players have said this The great Jerry West said "I saw Wilt dunk from a few steps behind the free throw line" So give him the benefit of the doubt & say even 3' behind would be 18' to the rim..FACT: The 1st EVER & FARTHEST to this day video recorded evidence of anyone was Mike Conley Sr.at the 1992 Foot Locker Slam Fest..He was about 6" behind the free throw line..Other Fun fact about the myth of Wilt..He stated his vertical was 52".. Again no video evidence..He said he could bench press 600 lbs.. Again no video evidence..Wilt was a great player but very arrogant/narcissistic..If he actually done any of these things there would be REAL PROOF!! BTW The 20,000 😂If you even fathom that I have 2 Big Foots, 5 Ghosts, & 16 Aliens for sale..Call 1-800-GULIBLE Ask for Elvis Presley or Jimmy Hoffa 🤦
@@johnboehmer6683 Exactly correct.. There's absolutely no video EVER him doing this (Dunking from the free throw line) If you see my other comment you should read 🤷
@@jameskeller3547 I mean...... Dudes tall, dudes got long arms, but ain't no way he could possibly stretch out from the free throw line and throw the ball down, no way. I'm like, am I tripping, or is everybody in this comment section? Thanks for the reality confirmation.
no matter how many pictures or video you see of the Grand Canyon seeing it in person will take your breath away. same with Wilt, you really had to see him play in person.
I MET WILT IN THE LATE 70'S WHEN I WAS WORKING FOR TGI - FRIDAYS IN MARINA DEL REY CAL. HE WAS A REAL GENTLEMEN. SHOOK MY HAND ✋. MY HANDS WERE BABY HANDS COMPARED TO HIS. NICE GUY
@@davidwilliamson9333 I'm from the Bay Area and a Warriors fan and I ran into Klay Thompson at the Yard House in Marina Del Rey in 2015. He was so cool. I told him I was a fan and asked him how he thought the team would do in the upcoming season. He told me he thought the Warriors were going to trade him and get Kevin Love. Fortunately Love went to the Cavilers and the Warriors offered Klay a huge contract and he won the first of 3 NBA titles in 2015 that next season.

Wilt was an athlete; Shaq was a no talent that knocked people over and dunked. He couldn't shoot, was a mediocre shot blocker, rebounder and passer. he ia a legend in his own delusional mind.
One of the greatest (and most underrated) athletes ever to walk the planet. He was a maniac about physical conditioning and it seemed there was nothing he couldn't do. He was a national track and field star in college. He was an extraordinary weightlifter. He once palmed a bowling ball. After his basketball career Wilt became a world champion volleyball player. His athletic prowess was so off the charts that he was getting comeback offers from NBA teams until his mid 50s. He did it all.

I saw Wilt Chamberlain play in the late 60s. The Harlem Globetrotters came to the military base in Japan where my dad was stationed. I was in my teens. They were amazing. Great memories.
I used to have one on my garage hoop growing up until legends started going around about people losing their finger cause it would get caught in the chain. My Mom caught wind of that story and made us go back to the regular net.
@@robertthabassheadjacobson4968 haha wow I never knew that. I never really played much ball after High School, but from the time I was say 13 till graduating school I would play on an almost daily basis and all the years of hearing folks say "change" I never really thought to ask or wonder where it came from. BTW do people still do that now? It's been over 20 years since I graduated HS and stopped playing so not sure if that is still a thing or not.
I wish there was a video as clear as this one of Wilt jumping as high as he possibly could . With a 45 inch vertical he would get his head 10 inches ABOVE the rim !!!
Bill Russel actually stated Wilt could slap the top of the back board. He saw it horsing around at one of the All Star game shoot arounds. I saw it in print a few years back but can’t find it on the net anymore.

This should be enough to make you appreciate Bill Russel. The man who kept him away of a championship for straight 11 years!!!! It takes a savant to stop that force of nature
Russell played with 8 HOFers on those Celtics teams... he didn't win 11 titles alone, or stop Wilt from winning without extreme loads of help. Tired of people always giving ONE guy all the credit. Basketball is a TEAM sport!
Bill Russel himself has pointed out that Wilt has scored 62 points on him - and also had a 55 rebound game against him. Hes pretty humble about how much he stopped Wilt.

@@georgekouts Yeah but wilt until he got to the lakers was pretty much a one man team. Clearly the reason he could drop 100 in a game is because his teammates weren't great scorers (and the other team likely weren't very good). Think about it like this, Kobe dropped 81 in a game after shaq left, leaving Kobe as the only super star on his team meaning he had to take scoring responsibility in that game. So the reason people give Bill so much credit is because he contained wilt, who was the most dominant force in the league, and let his teammates go to work on the rest of Wilt's team. So he basically isolated wilt to 1 on 1 play and was able to guard him successfully.
Look closely when he shoots at 0:06 , it looks like the image is accelerated, it looks so effortless that it doesn't seem the real acceleration of the ball.
Interesting. When I first watched the video I thought it was just a routine dunk. But looking back in slow-motion it was clearly from several feet away. Since we cannot see his feet we don't know where he took off. So its hard to say if he was 10 feet away vs free throw line (15 feet). Would be nice to see if there are any contemporaneous stories in the media about this event.
Can you imagine him in the league today? That tall, agile and with incredible athleticism is hard to find. Even by today's standar. His first year they'd be declaring him the GOAT.
@@donnaluke4103 If he's score in MJ's era, where bloody nose were common, can you imagine today where you could travel and hop skip all over the court with no defense? He'd average 100 plus!
man life is such a phenomena, one second we are here and then time goes by and then we all go away, becoming a memory and the cycle goes on. I remembered listening to old people say "enjoy the time you given because it goes by fast" now im 40
How a man that big could be so graceful, fast and all around athletic is a mystery. A properly motivated and well coached will is *WITHOUT A DOUBT* the single best all around player to ever touch a basketball. Maybe any ball. Talking about Bo Jackson and Jim Thorpe here
When you can run the basketball court both ends and score 15 points in a minute, in the two point era, it's safe to assume he wouldn't have to much trouble in any decade of basketball or against any player that ever played the game! The enjoyment of anyone watching basketball would be intense, a player who was mainly remembered for his finesse being allowed to play like Shak against a single player, Wilt scored a 100 points with the opposition having a minimum of two to three players hand checking or fouling him, Wilt at collage level scored 90 points in 28 minutes, 62 points in 10 minutes, I'm willing to bet he could in the right circumstances achieve double that 100 point game score or even more in a 48 minute game with maximum overtime? Wilt chamberlain would has he put it, "I would love it!" Bill Russell said, "Wilt in the present nba would be a licence to steal!"
