PLEASE DO A VIDEO ON FULL PROFESSORS WHO TAKE FIRST-AUTHORSHIPS IN PHD AND POSTDOC STUDENTS' WORK. THIS IS A HUGE SCAM IN ACADEMIA AND RESEARCH WHICH IS TOTALLY HUSHED UP AND UNADDRESSED.
It is not about individual submission. It is about the larger scam. Further, depending on the individual and personalized PhD/postdoc context, some scholars might be unable/uncertain to submit themselves.
The students should resist this. Order of authorship should be based on contribution. Check out people’s papers in Google scholar and author order before joining them for PhD
In certain circumstances (abusive environments / countries where the system is more broken), students risk losing recommendation letter and other retaliations from their advisor if they simply submit the paper themselves. There's hardly any way for the students to stand up for themselves once they get into this type of situation, but there should be more awareness on this issue so that people can know what to avoid.
@@Evelyn-oy4ue Exactly. In fact, there has been such assertions, albeit not directly, emphasizing that the PhD you'll eventually earn is nothing. My (supervisor's) recommendation would be everything for you in the future. @DrAndyStapleton should do a video on this hushed up and ignored academic and research scam to raise awareness about it.
This was very useful, thank you! Will the podcast be returning this year? I was able to find episodes on Spotify, but there is no content after Jan 2021
what about finding a novel idea for a possible marine curie postdoc project which is not indeed related to your PhD but also would be a good start to work in academia later on but also very novel and innovative so that it would be loved by host institute and the reviewing committee?
Basically you have to sell your proposal to these stakeholders. It's no different than a business pitch. If you've worked long enough, you'll automatically know how to do this.
