Winchester Long Beard vs. Kent Ultimate Turkey | TESTED

Is the Kent Ultimate Turkey hunting ammo really the best? I tested its diamond shot against Winchester Long Beard XR's copper plated lead in a pattern and ballistics gel experiment at 40 yards. What is the best turkey hunting ammunition? The performance made the winner very clear.

This test was done at a certified shooting range with proper safety equipment. I used my Mossberg 940 Pro Turkey with its 24" barrel and an average Turkey choke, the Carlsons 0.670 Turkey choke. The performance of the Long Beard begins to compare with lower grade TSS ammo depending on the choke used. These loads may be compared against others like BOSS Tom TSS, Remington Nitro Turkey, Federal premium TSS, APEX TSS, HEVI TSS, and many more. #turkeyhunting #turkeyhunter

Iv always shot Winchester loads for turkey. Double X then long beard xr. My buddy was trying every new load that came out and tried the Kent diamonds. Needless to say they didn’t preform. I have been using Kent tk7 tungsten for a season and half now. They are doing very well in my set up right now. But they are discontinued now. Once I run out of my stash I will be going back to long beard xr’s. Cheers from a cansdian turkey hunter! 🍻🇨🇦👍🏻 🦃

I use to shoot the old Kent ultimate diamond shot turkey load 3" 2oz of 5 shot and it was a hammer, then they discontinued it, I had a couple boxes put back but after patterning new guns new chokes diff ranges etc I've ran out, now for lead I'll stick to longbeard's 3" magnum 1 7/8 #6's or if I wanna take tss that day I'll go with my apex 3" 2 1/4oz #9's or the 3" 2 1/4oz #8.5 turkey ninja's or if I just wanna feel pain I'll shoot the longbeard 3 1/2" magnum 2 1/8oz #6's, they do good from my guns and chokes but I don't fool with 3 1/2" shells a whole lot, 3" seems to be the best all around in every hunting type shell, waterfowl, buckshot, turkey, etc, but yes the old Kent ultimate was good from my tests and hunting experiences but doubt I ever fool with getting anymore

I’m sure I’m wrong but it always seemed to me that a better representation of how many “more” pellets strike inside the 10 inch circle would be to compare the lower number of 56 by the difference of 91 to get 162.5 percent more pellets in the circle.
@TheNewHuntersGuide
@TheNewHuntersGuide 4 месяца назад
There are about 3 legit ways to do the math. I prefer to calculate it as the percent increase needed by the lower to reach the higher. Because you need a larger increase from 56 to reach 147. And ultimately that's the goal, for the lesser to reach the performance of tue greater. At least that's how I process it

Diamond Shot refers to a grade of lead shot. Now, I do not think anyone is regulating that. Winchester is labeling some loads Diamond shot now (Pheasant). @TheNewHuntersGuide 4 месяца назад
Honestly this has been my experience with many lead turkey loads, Rem Nitro, Rem Premier, Winchester Super X Turkey, etc. They all pattern similar to this in a 10" circle with #5s. Only Winchester Long Beard does great. If the shot isn't buffered, it doesn't hold a very tight pattern. Let alone make the pellets diamond shape instead of spherical.

@@TheNewHuntersGuide Ok, I can see that. Me personally would have done an average. I've used all of what you just mentioned. Can I ask why a 10" circle?? @TheNewHuntersGuide 4 месяца назад
@blackbandedfireworks2741 sure. The 10" circle has long been the standard for turkey loads, long before I came along. It approximates a reasonable high density circle that still provides some margin without risking much meat damage. It also has to do with far the turkeys head is away from the meat. I do have a video coming that kicks the tires on this traditional measurement as well.
