If it shoots good it’s broke in weather it’s in 3 shots or 300. Most rifle barrels made today are so much better than they were 25 years ago the is ne need to break in a barrel.

You may or may not know, Winchester XR has a weak epoxy that bonds the shot together. It's always going to group in high numbers.

Yea, I did a video on that part of it. Other shells have buffer material too, some even epoxy. I've yet to see anything come close to the long beard in performance.

I think you missed the key point of explaining the boiler room. The front half of the lungs (front of the shoulder crease) has many more major vessels than the back half. Aim in the center of the vital V and you can impact several inches in any direction and you’re still hitting vital tissues. I think not discussing the high shoulder shot is another omission as it’s a way more used target than head shots (in the US at least). Neck shots don’t need to hit the spine to kill, but you want a fairly violent expansion such that the CNS is shocked and you tear major vessels. They lose enough blood that they typically don’t get up after being stunned and dropping.

Is there a real world advantage for the mixed 3&5 shot? Or is it an unnecessary compromise that looses on both fronts? I.e. Not enough 3 to really be effective at long range or bigger birds or too much for smaller birds at close range (blow them to bits). I’m a newbie and trying to figure out a good “beginner” do-it-all (I know that’s not really possible) shell. Something to begin with and start patterning etc. thanks for the content!

In my testing I find it performs almost the same as #4, except it patterns better in my gun. Alot better. That's the main reason I use it. Does it pattern better in everyone's gun? I doubt it. But that's why we test. In terms of ballistic effectiveness, it's almost the same as 4s.

FYI, I just bought a Benelli Super Black Eagle 3. In the manual it says the following: "WARNING: when your shotgun is new and before beginning to use it normally, a breaking-in period may be required before your new gun works perfectly with light target loads. If you experience any initial functioning problems, we recommended firing three or four boxes of standard hunting cartridges."

The way ammo companies look at it is 1 or 2 percent being slightly irregular is acceptable based on the total amount of shot in the shell. If ammo companies took the time and labor and machine cost to make each one perfect, they would have to pass the extra cost on to the consumers.
@JefferyWoodcock
@JefferyWoodcock 2 дня назад
I learned many years ago that shotshell ammo companies put whatever falls from the shot tower in the shell. All shells, not just water fowl. Simply because the consumer can't see it. Logically when you buy shot, it's all polished and pretty.

This is a bit like fly fishing. At one time there were only books, so there could be excuses for thrashing the water. Then dvd's. Now RU-vid so there are NO excuses. But they still go out there without a clue-because some cannot learn no matter what. In deer, turkey or wildfowl shooting there again there are those who just 'blast' away having done little target or test shooting. And once you do aquire any skills do everthing with comfidence and with expectations of success not just hoping! And relax don't tense up. And you must try to pass these skills on.

Some days feeling tired not in the mood I miss alot. wind blows different or because of other hunters near us or that spot hunted a week before birds work differently . In high wind We expect the birds low they fly with the wind like crazy fast %10 😲.

Good video George, I see similar data variances inspecting building construction for owners. If a process is undocumented, reporting is memory based. Maybe 70% of the time data is within 30%ish. A small percentage of folks knowingly withhold information but most are happy to share. The issue is that recalling details from weeks or months in the past is just not very accurate . Last year I used an app for tracking my duck hunts. Just keeping track of my shot percentage made me a bit more conscientious about shot selection. Good stuff! Cheers!

Exactly. Get out there and get good with your exact setup. I know people from the shack who literally don't even zero their rifle every season, sometimes not bothering despite using a completely different load. I'm OCD about this, I want at least a half dollar sized group at 100 before I'm satisfied. To me it shows a lack of respect for the animal and how trivially they take it, to the point of just being a social event where drinking beer with your buddies is the main concern.

I've heard all my life (60 yrs) there is no one choke for everything, BULL!!! modified is it!!!! Every choke in the world can't take the place of skill. Every time you change a choke you have to learn a new pattern characteristic. Learn one pattern, change shot size.

@TheNewHuntersGuide
@TheNewHuntersGuide 7 дней назад
Thanks! Why not a bismuth / tss duplex load? That would be cool. The only great reason I can see to use steel is to save money for close range hunting. Else I would go with bismuth or a bismuth tss blend.

@outdoorswithroostercurrie6984 7 дней назад
@@TheNewHuntersGuide That’s the main reason I’m going with TSS / Steel Duplex load. I can use 1/2 ounce #9 or #10 TSS and 5/8 ounce #4 steel for a real HAMMER of a Duck / Goose load. And it’s cheaper than TSS / Bismuth Duplex.

I would focus on the over the ear models then. Razors are a good place to start. You get more for the money than cheap in ear models because they can be larger. Making the in ear protection small and good drives up the cost.

So I watched the whole video again. I would have thought it to be better to use your hunting load and choke as the control. With the extensive testing and money we went through we know what to hunt with. Then decide what choke and target load replicates that. You can take that information and the distance of your game and practice. I was hoping you would mention pattern size, shot size, and velocity. I want a target load that lets me replicate my lead distance. Still enjoyed the information
