I like this gel better than the clear blocks because it shows the temporary and permanent cavity alot better.

Thanks for pointing that out, I had the same thought, I'm not a fan of the dynapoints, they haven't been very accurate for me, the super x however are very accurate and coyotes don't like them at all.

@littleH - That would be the Speer "TNT" bullet, which several manufacturers load. Check out the .22/Rimfire playlist for those- I tested the Federal version of them and have the CCI version comming up soon as well and at 50-100 yards upcomming also...

Same here but on 22LR. In 22WMR their stuff is pretty good. Especially their SUPREME stuff they used to make, of which I still have a nice stash of.

Good video… I’m always drawn to 22 mag content. I have the Rossi bolt action version similar to your Rossi and when I first bought it I got a 150rd value pack of those dyna points and my sons and I went to the range and my 22 mag was just barely out shooting their 22lr’s at long range… I was so disappointed! The next time I had some CCI maxi mags and it redeemed itself! The difference was huge! So from then on the only 22mag I buy are CCI and Hornaday V-max. The V-max is fast enough to fire center fire tannerite !

Great video. Thanks for performing this test! Very informative! The dynapoint squished down more because it's just a lead bullet. the super x has an actual copper jacket so it didn't collapse totally. also, the dynapoint probably penetrated a little more because it was going slower, the super x is faster and a HP so it dumps more energy on impact and penetrats less. The wound channel for the super x was pretty impressive.

Both are great rounds. My decades long favorite in the .22WMR is the Winchester SuperX 40 grain JHP. I’ve taken quite a few critters with it and a few that outweigh the commonly thought of size range of practicality of this cartridge. It consistently shoots moa and sub moa in my Marlin model 25MN made in 1992. Just yesterday, March 14, 2023 I was at the range and chronographed 21 shots and the average velocity of those shots was 2016 fps in my Marlin rifle. Pretty good over achievement of the published velocity of 1910 fps and the accuracy is superb too. Interesting to note that I also chronographed the Hornady 30 grain load listed at 2200 fps and it fell short with an average of 1996 fps. Maybe an “off performance” lot of ammo? I do plan to further test it though with a different lot of ammo but I’ve always had consistent performance with the Winchester SuperX over many decades of shooting.

@@BuckeyeBallistics good, compare them with hornandy 30 grain. I gotta start making videos, I shoot through coins every weekend lol but you’ll be surprised with the 30 grain tnt..they just threw a nickel I had 40 yards from target and still made a clean hole. The hornandy don’t play either.. but the 40 grain cci shoot dead accurate out of my rifle, you’ll find your ammo

If you’re an inch short or long on a 4 calibration, you don’t subtract an inch on a twelve inch result. I think you would get closer with a percentage, though it probably wouldn’t really be linear. They seem to hit pretty hard for a lowly 22 rimfire though
@peytonnorris7244
@peytonnorris7244 9 месяцев назад
I think the sectional density of the lead and the copper jacket on the 40gn are why they are so different in expansion size.
@rileyneufeld7001
@rileyneufeld7001 Год назад
5 extra grains but a 500 fps loss?! I definitely would go with the 40 grainers. Looks like it is a more robust designed bullet as well.
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics Год назад
I think it's a lighter powder charge as well, not just a weight change with the bullet. It has about 200ft-lbs energy which pretty much puts it right in the middle between standard 1200fps .22lr high velocity, and the typical 40gr 1900fps .22wmr loads. Before the prices went crazy 2 years ago, they were a lot cheaper per box than other .22wmr ammo...
@rileyneufeld7001
@rileyneufeld7001 Год назад
@@BuckeyeBallistics It has to be a lower charge. A 40 grain charge with a 45 grain pill on top would be a good amount more pressure and higher velocity than the 40 grain load.
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics Год назад
The Federal 50gr I tested a few month ago, being heavier, was still 1500fps- so the Dyna Points are definately under charged. Good point about the possible pressure issues, but Federal got their 50gr going nearly just as fast...
@clinnyboy

If that round flipped right after entry that might account for the larger initial wound channel and then the relatively small remainder of the channel.

I really like the 22 Mag. I have a very nice Ruger 77/22Mag stainless varmint/target I enjoy shooting. I've never quite understood the 45gr Dynapoint as it is loaded much, much slower and therefore drops much more than the standard 40 grain . I just dont know the purpose of this loading. The whole reason for the 22 Mag is less drop and more power than the 22LR so again, why do we have the Dynapoint loading?
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics Год назад
It's hard to tell with todays high pricing on .22wmr ammo, but the Dyna Points were the budget option- a dead giveaway is the copper wash on the bullet instead of a nice solid copper jacket. A few years back and beyond, they were several dollars per 50 cheaper than the higher velocity stuff. As seen in the gel, they do less damage- so they would be a good .22wmr round for small game animals that you intend to eat, because they won't blow up as much meat. I have also read they are quieter to shoot. So basically, good plinking or hunting round inside of 75 yards for the caliber...
@frankbrowning328
@frankbrowning328 Год назад
@@BuckeyeBallistics I could see that. As long as they shoot well why not for a substantial discounted cost and less damage to a squirrel or rabbit makes sense

Is any of this ammo 22 rimfire
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics Год назад
It's all 22 rimfire because it's a rimfire cartridge and 22 caliber. However, I think you are referring to .22lr (22 long rifle) because that is the most common .22 cartridge- the one that people generally mean when they say "a 22". In that case, no, these are not regular 22's which again are .22lr. There are 22 shorts (22s), 22 long (22l), 22 long rifle (22lr), 22 Winchester Rimfire (22wrf), and finally these in the video which are 22 winchester magnum rimfire (22wmr) which are otherwise know as 22 magnum/22 mag which are the longest and most powerful of the 22 rimfire cartridges.
