I have to say your improvisation for targets is incredible very good efficiency and time span on the video does not put people to sleep like most videos
Awesome testing brother! For me it’s all about the firearm and ammo combo. What shoots well in a Beretta may not shoot as well in a Remington. Each shotgun/choke patterns different.
This is true. I just tried this exact same test and the Winchesters shot better for me. I shot Top Gun 1-1/8 - 8 shot at 1200 and the exact same load with the Winchester Super Targets. Then I even tried 1 oz of 7.5 shot and was really shocked when it even patterned better. I would of bet money that the federals would of done better. 🤷♂️
Excellent comparison bud ! I’ll still run Winchester , never been a fan of federal I’ve had and seen to many misfires with federal ammo . Thanks for sharing bud
Great video, thanks for doing the thorough walk through. I haven't really developed a preference one way or the other. Often times I don't have many choices as the shelves are a little bare so I've been taking what I can get. Walmart only had Federals in 8 shot when I went the other day so that's what I'll be shooting opening day here in Georgia.
Federal has a more consistent pellet size, each pellet has a more consistent flight. Winchester with its different size pellets is like shooting a shell with mixed pellets, which is exactly what it is. The further the range the worse Winchester gets. Excellent video thank you for opening my eyes to this.
@@migratorygame7400 I'm in my early 60s. The old-timers tell me to use Federal over Winchester. Until now I thought they were the same. Old dogs can learn new tricks.
@@NvrchFotia I'm getting the feeling batches of ammo are not the same from year to year. I know they are not the same from company to company. The more I think I got a hand on what's going on the more I find out something different from what I thought. I'm now thinking pellet size is just a ballpark size. Especially in the cheap bulk ammo I bought most often. Seems like the more ammo I opened the more disappointed I get.
The Winchesters have multiple shot sizes thats why there is more. The federal shells are much more consistent. Steel shot is the same way. Cut open a SuperX steel load and a Federal speed shok. The difference is huge
Your right they did have multiple shot size in the shells and the federal had some football shaped shot as well. If I can get my hands on a box of each I'll definitely check them out.
U can have two of the same guns same barrier length and one will like fed and the other win. A proper pattern test will tell u what gun likes what. Enjoyed the video
Anyone else think the cheap federal shells have more recoil than the Winchester? I have a light weight 12 hauge Benelli 828 and feel a noticeable difference.
Nice video.i do like federals vs winchester for doves.i don t know how but you see the federals and you say ok another cheap shell you see the winchester and you say aaa winchesterrr and you buy it you go for doves you are out off win.and you run to the nearest store you find only federal and you say ok back to the field and you say wooooww....9 years i use them for doves and for skeet with over and under.
What choke? Good work tho, its fun doing stuff like this, you can learn a lot about your shotgun and the ammo. Guns can be picky and some like other shells ya never know
This is a great video💪🏽 but off subject of this topic I've seen people on RU-vid committing murders with the cheapest dirty guns because there criminals and never clean them running the cheapest sorriest ammo ever 115 grain with zero technique while holding there firearm and still some how win against a guy that has all those credentials it just really makes me wonder sometimes
These comparisons are all well and good but too many factors with patterning a shot charge at 30 plus yards on a small board. You went high and right on both cold shots, better way would be firing at a large board and circling the entire pattern and working off the whole pattern.
Nicely done! I'd go insane doing that much counting! To get a good comparison, you'd need to shoot at least 5 shells each and then see how the count comes out. I did find it a little strange in the shot size variations in the Winchester ammo? I'm a huge fan of Winchester AA 1-1/8 oz. Either 7-1/2 or 8 for quail and dove. That harder shot just patterns better with fewer fliers.
no, you need to use slugs or buckshot for home defense. bird shot is for small birds. i have read about home invaders being shot point blank in the face while climbing through a window with bird shot and the crook was able to run away and escape.
I think a full choke is to tight of a pattern for doves. There hard to hit as it is. I prefer improved or modified chokes for dove hunting. I personally use a modified choke. But try them all out and use what works best for you.
