WIND VS TRAIN Aftermath (CSX & East Penn RR)

After a powerful nor'easter ripped its way across the east coast i spent the following day documenting the derailments on CSX which saw train cars take a plunge into the Susquehanna river below and on the East Penn Railroad where winds caused a box car and flat car to flip over taking their last unit off the rails with them. I stuck around for some of the work being done at the East Penn scene but left shortly into the process with light fading. I hope you'll enjoy the documentation at least.

Track problems also, was not because of wind, I'm sure it didn't help but it was the whole issue.

This certainly worth note, East Penn’s Trackage was indeed in need of repair. Speaking of I actually have footage of another derailment in the month of May I’m working on editing features the same issue in what started as a chase to the Wilsmere turn crew only made it a few miles before rolling some wheels on a curve.

Remember reading about MILW. ROAD, that had a similar thing that would happen to them, at the bridge where they crossed the Columbia River in Eastern Washington State.

Why didn't CSX place a high wind advisory on this bridge? Because CSX only cares about moving trains, not safety.

Nice video bud! I remember that storm and those couple derailments, it’s hard to grasp a couple of freight cars falling like a bridge off that, lol. Very well covered and good job!

Dude thank you so much for the kind words! Yea that storm had some power too it for sure.. it made the signals in my yard sway back and forth for most of the night. I can’t imagine what that crew on 409 must’ve thought headed for that bridge.

I have been over that I-95 bridge in a Tractor trailer before and let me tell you it can be a rough ride when the winds are blowing! Loaded is not bad but empty in an open top is tough!

My father has been in the trucking industry for 20 years and I’ve heard a lot of stories on the I-95 bridge.. especially like you said running empty I’ve seen a few blow over on the high way cams there too. Certainly a wild ride.

While I’m not sure how they got those two off of there I do remember that they barged the tank car and remaining submerged centerflows away to presumably scrap those moves happened over the next two weeks during the week.

The regular wind was gusting at 50+mph -- you don't need to come up with more exciting explanations than that. If there was a tornado, people would have reported it.

Okay this makes no sense whatsoever, where is a couple of cars were blown over by the wind, the trees still made a windscreen enough that kept it from being a lot worse not to mention the fact that the trains came to arrest because of the trees but will chop the trees down to get into the cars when they were gaping holes they could have gotten to them around the trees so the next wind gusts through their there won't be a natural windbreak and even more cars will get blown over and derailed, real intelligent there guys not!
