Welcome back! This sword is a beast but so lightweight and lightning fast in terms of blade acceleration when you cut with it, thanks to finally the correct distal taper, and the correct profile with the width of the hatchet point ensure deeper bevel with thinner blades at the top half. It moves through targets small and large effortlessly. It really illustrates how much of a difference small details can make--literally night and day. Cold Steel's version is also made by Windlass. It can be retired now. The "reenactment" grade ones made by a few other brands were never swords to begin with. Good on Windlass. They just need to ensure the quality control is up to par now.

Thanks man!! I watched your review of the sword also. Yes, the quality control is an issue. Maybe future production runs will address them. As I understand it, executing a large production run of swords is an extensive and lengthy process. Even when the maker is aware of issues, attempts to fix them may not be seen in the market for another year or so. However…..I’m thrilled to a great degree with this!! I can’t wait to see how this impacts the affordable sword market. If windlass can recreate an original design with historical accuracy, my hope is other makers will follow. It’s also something LK Chen does.

@@mattamathics1108 that’s bang-on, my friend! You should try out LK Chen’s new shamshir, Mongolian saber, sidesword and rapiers. Especially the shamshir, granted it’s more of the Syrian style, but almost nobody is doing historically accurate versions like LK Chen does while performing this well and being this durable.

@@mattamathics1108 BTW I saw the Balaur Arms Alexandria on your wall, would LOVE to see you compare it to the DSA version! Several sword friends have done reviews and compared it to different swords such as Albion, Atrim, Ronin and Purpleheart Armory. None of the us has the DSA version, so a comparison would be greatly appreciated!

@@FortuneFavoursTheBold oh absolutely my friend! I sold the DSA a while back, but I remember it very well. I have a lot of notes on it and the old review to refer to. Without going into detail……..they are very different! That is coming very soon! I have a sword from Angus Trim arriving Saturday, direct from the man himself! I can’t wait to get into that.

Depending on the plastic insert Windlass used it can be removed. They tend to put them in lately for retention & to reduce rattle I believe.

Bro I was getting worried about you lol! Glad you're back love your reviews! Can't wait for more 🤘 1796 is on my list for sure I'm debating the lk or windlass. We'll see but I'm leaning toward the windlass

Hey man!!! Thank you so much for your support! Yes…life threw too many curveballs at me all at once, which drastically affected my sword hobby. But, I’m back with a new perspective and a much more general appreciation for the good things in life such as swords and the community situated around the hobby. I know how you feel…..I had a hard time choosing between the LK Chen version and Windlass. I choose windlass because of Matt Easton’s involvement with the sword design. However, I will probably get the LK Chen 1796 also lol. The 1860 American Sabre looks really sweet as well! Thanks again……..Mike

@@mattamathics1108 Nothing to serious I hope. Life is a cruel mistress sometimes and it just kinda keeps happening doesn't it... lol? Wake up every day and keep your stick on the ice is all you can really do. Luckily thats usually enough. If and when you do get the lk a comparison video would be cool. Glad you're back brother 🤘 keep your stick on the ice, we're pulling for ya, we're all in this together.

I have a replica 1796 by windlass, but it's not this new version. It was made around 1997 I think & is essentially the same as the current Cold Steel (as some CS swords are definitely made by Windlass). I think mine has slightly butter specs than the current CS but still it's a bit too top heave to really be a true feeling 1796. If I had the $ I'd upgrade but as the list of swords I want is fairly long & the $ is fairly short...well the new 1796 isn't high priority; at least not yet 😂

I'm so glad you got one! I do appreciate your videos. I was lucky enough to get one too. I'd love to see someone compare the lk chen and winlass side by side. I've got the lk chen saber 1860 saber. Blade is superb, but a bit annoyed by grip. Seems too long and thick... I brought this up with them and they insist it's an exact copy... so, don’t know. Its not nearly as lovely as this Windlass. Feeling wise... anywho. Great review. I'd echo all your observations.
@mattamathics1108
@mattamathics1108 6 месяцев назад
Hey!! Thanks for watching. I agree..I would to compare the two (lk and windlass) interesting observation on the grip of the 1860. Like many swords of the 19th century, I bet there was some variation among and within officially adopted sword models. I imagine that certain officers may have had preferences when ordering their swords. The one lk chen copied may have had a bigger grip than a regulation model. Or they could have gotten it wrong lol. However it’s really nice to see makers paying attention to actual swords and not just recreating them from scans and pictures.
@1799to1815
@1799to1815 6 месяцев назад
@mattamathics1108 Yes, your probably right about grip. It does seem Lk did their homework. Just did some cutting. The 1860 is really growing on me. Despite my criticism, I'd still highly recommend it to anyone... LK's blades really are a cut above. I've some antique sabers and Lk blades could easily rival originals, and no doubt surpass many... thanks!

Ciao ma per un combattimento leggero puo essere usata?
@mattamathics1108
@mattamathics1108 6 месяцев назад
ciao, è stato progettato per l'uso a cavallo. sebbene sia agile e piacevole da usare, non è ancora agile come una spada dedicata alla fanteria. finora sarebbe meglio un combattimento leggero, qualcosa di progettato per la scherma.
