“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” - Mae West
Our 379km trek from Windorah to Birdsville had us embark on a journey into Queensland’s ‘Diamantina’. This is a land of extremes and is rich in natural, cultural and pastoral heritage, with gibber flats, red sand dunes and Channel Country. On the way we stopped to admire this true frontier country, it’s people, heritage, stories, places and landscape:
1. Henderson Mountain - to see the hole in the hill.
2. Deon’s Lookout - for an amazing view of the surrounding landscape.
3. Legendary township of Betoota - for a pie and coldie at the iconic Betoota Hotel.
4. Dreamtime Serpent Hill - a work of art created using gravel and gibber.
After a full day of travel, we arrived at Australia’s most-famous outback town …. Birdsville!
Time to hit the road!
