Vinyl window is stuck, won't go up and down. Sash is stuck? It's probably out of it's shoe. Watch this informative video brought to you by Markey Home Remodeling LLC out of Bridgewater NJ. www.markeyllc.com
It worked! My daughter said you can fine everything on RU-vid, so I checked and, fortunately, yours was the first video I watched. I had one shoe that didn't want to slide, but I kept at it. I'm so proud of myself! I'm 75 years old and didn't want to bother anyone since people are so busy. Thank you so much! God bless you!
Can’t thank you enough for posting this. I live in a rental townhome, and was in a panic because I thought I broke the window. I was reluctant to call maintenance because I was sure I was going to have to pay for it. I followed your instructions, and everything went exactly as you said.
Thank you, I was panicking because I thought I'd ruined my windows. Your explanation was perfectly clear, and I'm really glad you included some reasons why this happened.
Thank you for posting his video. Saved our morning. It took us minutes to fix a window that we thought for sure we would have to call a handyman. For future people....ours did not close after just being open, we did not open to clean. So, it can lock up anytime. Again, thank you!
We tried and tried, but the key was we actually measured and put a mark in the channel 8 inches up, moved the shoes to exactly the same height, and wow, it worked like a charm! Thanks.
YO .... this video helped me immensely ; I thought I was doomed !! the only additional note I would say is make sure you are prepared when using the screw driver in the shoe -- keep pressure on your hand BECAUSE IF YOU DON"T THE SHOE WILL FLY UP AND SMASH THE TOP .... I was able to get the window closed, properly, on the first try !! THANK YOU -- Happy New Year!
Thank you! I thought I broke my window while cleaning. From this video, I learned how to fix it AND how to remove the sash correctly so I don't make that blunder again. I live in a rural area so calling someone to repair this easy fix would have cost a bundle just for the travel.
Thank you! You did the close up of the sill shoe so I knew exactly what I was doing. I was afraid of breaking something but you gave me the confidence to be firm when turning the shoe. I learned an important skill today!
Another THANKS! I was cleaning my windows and one wasn't latched and fell wide open, locking the shoe (which I had no clue existed). I found your video and after viewing a couple times, and much sweat and almost tears, I fixed it! This 71 year old, who can't afford a service call, thanks you very much.
You're the best! I watched mutiple videos and struggled for hours with no success until I watched your video. Your instructions were precise and to the point. I was successful in getting my window to go up, down and lock. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thank you Jim! We bought a new home and half the windows had this issues. The former owners lived without being able to fully close the windows. Thanks to you I don’t have to.
Spot on. This saves time and money for the homeowner. Not sure the cost of your service call for this simple fix, but regardless, very kind of you to post these instructions for saving homeowners more than a few bucks. An easy, simple remedy when I understand the problem and solution. Thanks so much.
Well, thank you for this video....I thought I'd totally screwed up our window today, and if not for this very well laid out video, I am not sure what we would have done. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
What would I do without RU-vid and great videos like this one. Thank you for taking the time to put this video online. It not only saved me the money paid to a professional for 2 minutes of work and also eliminating the security issue leaving the window open while waiting overnight on a serviceman to show up.
As all others have responded....Thank you, my friend, for showing us this video. I was able to get the crooked window out and did as you said....now it is back in right and works the way it should! 😃👍👍
Absolutely amazing. I have one window that has been bugging me for years, but I assumed it would be an expensive repair and just have kept it shut. THANK YOU for sharing your tips!!
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!! I was so worried about how to fix my window or who to call since it's a Sunday evening. I watched your clip and was able to fix my window in 3 minutes. You are wonderful! Thank you!
Thanks a million!! I thought I had broke my apartment window trying to clean it! You are truly a lifesaver!! I did everything you showed and it WORKED! Yayyyy!
Thank you this was very helpful. I would add that.My window was not going down right away because the right side was being stubborn and not lining up.Just give a little love tap and it goes right in.
Excellent video. I've just figured out that my shoes were stuck with the latches at the top. I had to take the shoes down by that QUARTER turn and bring them down about eight inches as explained by Jim Markey. One needs to make sure that after moving the shoes up/down to that eight inches from the bottom to turn back to normal position before releasing the hand and the screw driver, otherwise, the shoes will slide back to the top where the latches are. The most important part of the video, in my opinion, is turning the shoes to quarter and moving it up/down to position it (eight or so inches from the bottom) then turning it back to normal position before releasing your hand and the screw driver.
Thank you! I was cleaning the windows at my town library and this happened to me. I tried and tried to fix it to no avail. Can't wait to try this tomorrow morning!
Thank you for this video! Such an easy fix and much appreciated. Your explanation as to how this can happen literally explained how I "broke" the window while trying to replace the screen. Cannot thank you enough. 😊
Thank you so much my mom was cleaning the windows and fall just starters here in Chicago and we were freaked out we thought we were going to have to call the window guys!! Few thanks you again
Thank you so much. Initially I though I destroyed the window after taking these out and cleaning. But after seeing your video I fixed these windows. Now working again like new.
This happens to me all the time and is the best "how to" on the subject I've watched. The first time I had to call for an emergency repair. Now, not only can I fix it but this is the first video that showed me how it was happening so it won't happen again. I think I'll go clean another window now that I know how to NOT to do this!!
WOW! SUPER SIMPLE FIX. I accidentally stumbled across this post.(My husband did commercial glazing & I could never get him to fix our windows at home! He would hire out. LOL He passed last year and my BIL stated to call the same guy my husband would call! No need now! You are a prince & saved me a few hundred dollars on a service call.)
Thanks so much I was washing my windows somehow it got out of alignment and came out of the track. I couldn't have put it back together without you thank you so much!!!!! 😉
Thank you so much for this well explained video. At 3:30 in the morning as I was sleeping I heard my wife opening the window since it was hot. I’m I don’t what she did, in a few minutes later, a loud noise woke me up. That was the bottom part of the window that came out of the lock. I struggled to put it back but, it could not go down. On my way to work, I decided to check for some solutions and came to your video. Wow!!! That is a life saver. You explain the issue and the solution so well and follow your tutoring and didn’t take me a good 2 minutes to fix something that I spent over an hour. Thanks again and God bless.
This was a great video! I had a little trouble as I had turned those shoe gizmos upside down. But then even I figured it out and it worked perfectly. Thanks so much.
Thanks so very much! I thought I broke the window until I watched the video. I had not put the window up high enough before I brought it down to wash the outside. However, until your help, I didn't know how it happened, nor how to fix it. Thanks so much again!
Thank you! Couldn’t figure out how to get my bottom tilt out to work after cleaning and was expecting to have to call a repair person. A quick fix after watching your video.
Thank you for this video. I had done what you said in your video and the window had come partly out of the shoe. It was an easy fix (a few taps ) to get the foot back in the shoe. window slides easily again. No sprays or lubricants. I had watched a bunch of other videos but none explained the issue like yours did . Again, thank you.
Day 1 and my poor husband checked how to clean the new windows without slightly opening so he didn’t hit the sash! We don’t even have screens on yet! Thanks for the great video to help me get us back “on track”
Thank you so much! Your instructions are so easy to follow and solved my problem in less than a minute. Now, if I can only learn not to cause the problem again. I thought I had raised the window enough before tilting it but obviously not. I will be more careful next time but if I mess up again at least I know how to fix it. p.s. I'm a female senior and if I can do it anybody should be able to.
Thanks so much! I thought I would have to call my landlord to fix my window, which would have been embarrassing enough, but I was able to fix my window just in time before a big rain storm blew in : )
Very helpful! Thank you. I actually found that I had a different problem though, as I was going through your example. My door has two flexible flaps around the shoes on both sides of the sash. I also had to move/adjust them so that the flaps were not impeding the shoe from moving up and down. Maybe you could show that situation in another video? I think that would help a lot of people too. Thank you so much for this video!
