Thank you sir!!! I have been sleeping daily with the window unlatched, just never told anyone about it...JUST to find out the window opens from the top. I just went and pushed the top up and viola....the latch fits perfectly. You're the BEST!!!
omg, you are a life savior! I've been stressed about this at the dorm for so long and since I live on the first floor, I was so afraid that people might break in. It's a very easy fix and thanks so much for uploading this video!
I keep coming back to this video each year when I take my portable air conditioner out of my windows due to hurricane power outages. It seems to always misalign my windows and I forget what it is I am supposed to do. Thanks. You are like my personal handy man!!
Thank you for trouble shooting this. I was cleaning windows for Christmas candles and thought I would have to call the vendor on one that wouldn't lock. It had slipped from the top as you demonstrated. Many thanks and happy holidays!
I can't thank you enough 😭😭seriously..safety is a huge issue and now, I don't have to worry! It wouldn't lock, its 11pm and I'm like...what do I do?! Thank you so so so much!
Thank you for this video I bought a home last year with pretty newer windows in it I've been having issues locking them and I tried what you mentioned about pushing the top sash up all my windows were like this now they all lock properly thanks again you probably saved me a decent amount of money.
Thank you! You saved me from having to call the installer about my 3-month-old double-hung window that used to seat/seal very well but I opened it a few days ago to vacuum the track and thought I closed and locked it, but I kept hearing traffic noise that sounded a little louder. Today, I finally realized that one of the windows was not seated in the bottom track well enough to actually lock (though I had gone through the motions of locking it and thought it was locked, LOL). Yep, just had to push the upper portion of the window a tiny bit and then the lower portion seated itself and locked quite nicely. Now, my installer would not have minded stopping by to look it over and help me, but I hate to be helpless AND an idiot!
Doug YOU ARE SO AWESOME! We were trying to head out of town but couldn’t lock two windows. After struggling for a couple hours, finally did a search and got your video recommendation! Your first suggestion, pushing up the upper sash, was EXACTLY what was wrong! Ten minutes later both windows locked and we were on our way!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thank you i fixed my window snd now it locks I did not have to call the maintenance men of the apartment complex and I am so happy thank you all so much.
Great video, thanks for showing how to unhinge the window, this was a problem in 3/9 of my windows and I had no idea how to fix em... first time homeowner things.
Thanks a lot for the video! My wife notified me that one of our windows wouldn't lock and when I took a look, everything looked good. New home owner so I never knew about the top portion of the window sagging down a bit and needing to be pushed up. Worked like a charm!
I rotated the pivot block and let it raise, then made it point straight up again as you instructed. But when I closed the window, the pivot bar did not engage with the pivot block. Any tips on what to do now?
Thanks! What a life saver. Here I was thinking that I needed new windows and all I had to do was push up on the top and down on the bottom to lock them.
Everything looks fine; I just had to stand on a stool and push down with all my strength to get the catch to match so the windows wood lock. I will remember to keep them that way! I think the weather stripping was fully expanded and probably cold and hard to compress. Good to know for next year!
My problem is the pivot block is still attached but the window won’t close enough to lock, which causes the top sash to begin to fall. Since there’s no screen, it allows lots of bugs to get into my room. I’ve already checked and there’s nothing blocking the window from closing in the window housing or on the sashes themselves. It’s as if it’s simply the wrong size.
I have a friend who has just up & down vinyl windows no tilting Many of them cannot lock. I've had a friend push up the top sash I pushed on the bottom one. The locking device will not align with each other. No debri in window tracks! HELP!!!
This didn’t work because the pivot block is attracted to the sash. But no matter how hard I try to seat the top and bottom of the window it will not lock.
