Tabs in explorer is great! My only wish is that there was a setting so that when you open a new tab, it didn't automatically make that tab active. I like being able to quickly open 3-4 tabs and then choose which ones I want to look in.
@rea9lizer
@rea9lizer Год назад
IIRC you can middle-click a folder to open it in new tab unfocused, so you can just middle-click home folder, C drive etc. multiple times to kinda achieve that.

Really liking where Windows is going, especially with that mockup from a few weeks ago at Build (or was that Ignite?). Would shine with devices like the Surface Pro and Surface Go. Just want the Windows team to continue working on bringing over features and UI elements from Android, Chrome OS, iOS, and iPad OS that makes sense for Windows, alongside continuing to improve the OS' motion design and responsiveness, especially for the touch experience.
@techwithtyler20

Such a big shift in UI as seen in that mockup wouldn't make sense in a Windows 11 update, but rather Windows 12. Rumors point to a 2024 release.

I was actually just complaining about the overflow menu. I mean it's not that important, but it was the only part of the taskbar not updated with new animations. Now the only thing I have to think about is how the Widgets panel uses a different frosted theme than the start menu and the calendar.

Tabs has always been a bit screwed up for me, even on the preview builds, months ago. File Explorer always adds a few separator lines in the middle of the Libraries when I expand it. But when I didn't run preview versions with tabs the issue disappeared. I even did a complete reinstall because I got a new OS drive and the same issue appeared with the latest update again. It's really annoying! But I haven't seen anybody else with this issue. Maybe nobody uses the Libraries in Windows?

You can use some mods to make it small
@techwithtyler20
@techwithtyler20 Год назад
Most likely removed due to the upcoming tablet-optimized taskbar, or it was simply one of those features no one used given what Microsoft's telemetry data shows.
@coin3ip
@coin3ip Год назад
a "tablet-optimized" taskbar would have the icons on the eft by default, because they're more accessible that way (I have a left hand, but not a centered hand ^^ ). But that's the way I'm using it. also because it feels more balanced. things on the left, things on the right. icons in system tray are still small, and I can still use them. (oh, I forgot.. they've put quick actions in a different section than notifications, but there's no easy fast way to open them. you can't put the 3 fingers tap ton open quick actions instead of notifications, for example. It looks like a stupid oversight, just missing a line somewhere). calendar there doesn't show events, can't create events from there too.. so if you disable notifications because they're a pain to dismiss in there, all this notification center become mostly useless, and would be useful to open the quick actions more easily instead. back to the icons. I know them, it's bothering my eyes and brain that they 'have' to take that much of the screen (13" surface laptop), I never had an issue clicking on one of them with my big fingers on my previous surface book 13" screen... So it really feels like removing an option for the sake of removing it... like when they started with the option to put the icons back to the left. It's just some small usability oversights. and those stupidly big icons are always there, taking too much space. (hiding it is a big no-no for me. I hate things moving on the screen for no reason, and hiding the taskbar also hides the clock. and the clock is useful. but the option of hiding the taskbar is there for people who likes to hide it, and I don't mind). I don't use windows snapping, and there's the option to disable it, and that's cool. even if they do so much marketing around it. So, I'd like them to put the option for the small icons taskbar back in. (and also the option for three-fingers tap to open quick actions) :) and I don't think that's a lot to ask. :)
@frokfrdk
@frokfrdk Год назад
@@coin3ip Actually tbh, using the centred taskbar buttons feels so much better on a tablet then on the left (I have a few surface products)
@coin3ip
@coin3ip Год назад
@@frokfrdk that's why I said "that how I use it", because I used a surface book for almost 6 years, now surface laptop 5, and either just using surfae book 'clipboard', or full laptop, I use the icons with my left thumb while holding the device, or just resting my hand on the side my thumb fall right on those icons (on the left). I also use one fixed-in-place file explorer window most of the time, on the left side, so I can access all the quick access and files, with my left thumb, still holding the device. or even while I'm using the pen with my right hand. I never have to 'reach for' the icons, and I prefer it like that. but you don't, and the options to do both are here. :)

Good Job Microsoft :D
@mesimeneshqip807
@mesimeneshqip807 Год назад
The tabs implementation is very stupid, the person who designed it has no clue what he/she was doing. Because first of all, tabs should not be automatically enabled even if you dont want to use them, secondly implementing tabs in file explorer based on a browser experience does not make any sense, and will confuse people more that it should. Navigating from one view to another is a pain in the ass if you want to be productive, that is because of the tabs position. They should have been implemented like in linux kde or I think also Mac has this feature where tabs will not create sort of separate windows like in browser, but tabs are part of the same window and beneath the toolbar, this way is quicker to switch the tab rather then the full window with toolbars and everything which gives a bad experience and nobody will use it. If tabs would be beneath toolbar then its much easier to navigate from one to another without switching the workflow context provided by toolbar or other things you have in file explorer.
