I tried Win 11, and it's a huge step back from Win 10 in the accessibility area. Windows 10 Start menu and task bar are better thanks to all the customizable options. Win 11 feels more restrictive. Also, the Notifications centers felt downgraded
I just removed it. Very very disappointed, includes extra steps to accomplish the same task in Windows 10. the task bar is a disaster and it is for this reason I will not upgrade to 11.
@@tinmancode Okay, me too. But just remember you can't go back after 10 days from the day u installed windows 11, if you got it from a free upgrade from Windows 10.
@@giovannicarloni17 Once you open the registry, it is at the top, it looks like a link. Just go in there remove what is already there and paste the registry location link that you have already copied.
My issue really is the lack of a proper size option. I've always used the small taskbar in windows 10 and I like having extra space rather than a large taskbar for no practical reason.
I am having the same issue. I always had my taskbar set to double height so the icons were on the bottom row and the top tow was the open apps buttons. I can no longer do that and have not found any way to do that again under Windows 11. Very disappointing on a grand scale. I had to remove so many things from my taskbar and start using the Start Menu instead so I can see my app buttons without them being squished into the far right of the bar.
I just wish we could still use Groups and folders in the start Menu at least as an option. I use it and it helps me have all my important apps and folders Right in Front of me in the Menu and it's a big help. Having to go back makes it a deal breaker for me.
@@iamax8307 well it can be a matter of preference but it's nice to have the option. For example in my case I have big Groupes like "content creation", "Maintenance", "Productivity" and, in theses, Folders also Named like "Office Apps", "GIS", "3D Work". It becomes very easy to access everything. I also have a groupe to just have easy access to important folders or folders I'm working on. It's just nice to have the option and those who don't want it can just turn it off. In my case it's a very important part of my workflow. 😅
@@DaleDix yeah I'll just wait and see what will happen. I mean the feature is already there how hard is it to simply give the option to turn it off ? 😅
I really liked the small icons with the taskbar, but it make my time and date get semi cut off. Is there any way to make the icons small without that happening?
I just updated yesterday and it's crazy that this has been a complaint for a month now. Such a minor feature that got in nobody's way but they removed it for what??
@@akhilalexg Taskbar, according to Microsoft, at top didn't make Windows 10 look that good that is looked at bottom, but it may be giving more functionality to some people. Microsoft didn't want their new windows to look "odd" so they removed the option.

@@alltypesofthings4559 i know i had windows 10 at one point but i did not like windows 10 as much due to it was a bit messy in some areas and it sort-of bugged me
You're a legend, a living one.. Thank you, I have a Surface Pro & this means I can write or ''move around'', "in" the computer more freely without bumping something. Just little things like this make the biggest difference.
Hello from Croatia and congrats for your work on YT... Everyone useful tips from you thanks... Next topics please: How to set the windows in W11 to NEVER COMBINE in the taskbar... Please please please 🙏💕
I wasn't considering downloading Windows 11 but I this video showcased plenty of features that changed my mind. Thank you Kevin for the topnotch content as usual 🙏
It would appear that moving the taskbar from bottom to top using regedit no longer works. I change the reg entry from 03 to 01 and restart Windows explore (or just reboot). The modified entry reverts back to its original value of 03.
Thank you so much Kevin. Love this video. You're a savior. My laptop updated, adding a whole bunch of icons I didn't need or want. Thanks again for helping me get rid of them. I'm only going to jump on your videos from now on.
Geeze - happy to have found you - spent 30 minutes just trying to get the pin/unpin directions from other sites- which were all complicated, super confusing & provided several ways to screw up more. Your info rec'd and done in 1:28 minutes. Thanks!
Your video is really helpful, I was trying to get the desktop icon in the end but was struggling. Other videos were not helpful but you did it man...thanks so much. Your videos are always helpful, have seen others videos on MS teams, outlook all were insightful and have helped a lot to organize work.
Thanks, Kevin for the great videos that you do. The first time I used Windows, the copy that was installed on my system, the taskbar was on the top. That was Windows 3 or 3.1 (dark ages ago ;-) I have never used the taskbar on the bottom of any of my personal systems. I was really surprised when my wife's new computer upgraded to 11 and there was no (user) way to locate it to the top. I can understand adding new functionality but taking something away is going backward. As a rule, I very seldom update the registry...as Microsoft and others caution against it. Your instructions are very straightforward to make the change. I plan on sending the same message to Microsoft. Thank you for the work-around. Irv in Florida.
how did you fix the issue with multi windows on same application ? i have 3 windows of the same browser open with different tab groups.. they dont show as preview when i hover over the icon
ATT: Kevin Stratvert... Stop making Windows so complicated. You're trying to appeal to everyone, and you've messed up your whole operating system by doing that. Windows 11 is a complete, and utter disaster, nothing works as it should. Please try to convey this message to the top Kevin.
I've successfully placed the taskbar at the top of the screen using this method. Thank you, man. But what about the flyout previews? The flyouts still come from the bottom of the screen. Is there a way to move them up to the top, so as to match the taskbar layout properly?
This is a good tutorial and helps in many areas; however, unlike Win10, an open app doesn't display the appropriate window. ie. If I am working with two Word documents, I am unable to readily see which to select!
The fact that they’ve permanently combined tasks into single icons forcing you to hover and perform multiple clicks just to switch to another app is a *major* deal breaker for me. Wow. EDIT: Turns out there’s StartAllBack, _yet another_ hack to revert these changes. Yay for more and more hacks just to get Windows back.
Is it possible to get just get back uncombine taskbar icons without losing the look of the new start menu in windows 11? Can StartAllBack do this or will it also change the start menu? Wish there was a simple registry hack just to ungroup taskbar icons and get text labels back on taskbar icons.
@@learner-_- as I think Windows should be updated at least 22H2 mr. And I updated the windows 10 to 11 before 2 days as I remember. For windows 10 it didn't work.😊 Magically it worked after a lots of lots of damn solutions. For Dell inspiron it works. I don't know others' 🤔
Hey bro , one week ago I got a developer update to my win 11. Now my taskbar isnt moving to top. Registory is changing itself to previous setup even I edited it. Update the video.
i have a similar problem. i want the taskbar in the centre so the start menu is would also be in the centre, but registry always puts it back to the left after a while.
Thanks Kevin for the great video. One of the big disappointment for spreadsheet heavy-users like many of us, is that it's no longer possible to Extend (and Title) the currently opened programs in the taskbar. This is unbelievable that MS dropped this feature. Even the option is not existing. Is there a way to reactivate it, you think ? Big thanks for the advise.
Nice... thanks for all the help. Any hints on how to reduce the spacing of the icons on the taskbar? I don't have so many they overflow, but they do seem too far apart from one another.
Hey Kevin... as always a clear, and simple tutorial. Just wondering if there's a utility that you may know of (or anyone else here reading this) that will allow adding a category box on the taskbar so when you hover over it it displays further icons that you don't want to have cluttering the taskbar but would like a quick way of opening the app you wish, or Maybe an utility that will add a different taskbar to a virtual Desktop (in Windows 11), so when the virtual desktop is opened a new taskbar is displayed with the icons to the apps you want to open or quick access to (for instance a desktop of business use). Hopefully you have a solution you can point me to. Cheers.
Great video. Was hoping to see how to unlock the taskbar and move it to another monitor without having to change the default monitor. It was simple to do in 10. I'm an hour into Win 11, have watched three videos and no one seems to be talking about it. Is this even possible now?
Honestly it feels as though they have made things much more confusing in windows 11, I prefer windows 10 due to the easy accessibility and freedom you have with it. Edit : after a week with Windows 11 I have realised that it is not bad as people say, although it is just a little harder to operate than windows 10 once you get the hang of it it is quite easy.
Thanks Kevin! The new taskbar in Windows 11 I like, but I miss the possibility of inserting in the taskbar the new toolbars that were possible in Windows 10. It is possible to enable this facility through the registry editor or only with applications from third parties?
Hello Kevin, How do you rearrange the position of the icons on the taskbar? In W10 was easy to move the icon just by grabbing it and placing it to right or left. The icons are stuck in any order are placed by W11 on the taskbar.
Make sure to submit feedback by pressing Windows Logo Key + F... they have a team focused on the task bar and they read the feedback that comes in. My biggest pain point... dragging and dropping items to the task bar.
I turned on the option that makes your taskbar only appear when you move your mouse to the bottom of the screen. Does not work, taskbar will not change any behavior
@@KevinStratvert Hi Kevin, I just sent a Suggestion/Compliant to Microsoft because as of today 3/26/24, this is still an ongoing issue. What a shame that Microsoft had to interfer with our productitivty. I wonder if they will get back to me. But thank you for all your great tutuorials. I just won't be making changes to the registry due to some comments.
Hi. I was able to successfully resize my icons awhile back through your video. However, I am honestly not sure what happened, but now they are large again and the same method does not work. Any other suggestions?
Thanks Kevin. Love watching your videos. Makes us all smarter 😃. I do have a related question to this video: I used to use the Quicklaunch facility where I right-clicked Win10 taskbar, up to Toolbars and added a New toolbar which pointed at a folder containing all my most useful links and this was permanently docked on the right of the taskbar. The upgrade has removed this and I can't see a way to put it back. Has is totally disappeared? If so, knowing you, I'm sure you have a smart work-around.
Hi Kevin ! Thanks for the wonderful tutorial. Indeed very helpful and easy to follow. I just need one more information which is not given in this tutorial and I am also unable to figure it out. The taskbar can populate only 20 odd icons. I have around 32 icons on my taskbar. But I can see only 20. How can I see the balance 12 icons. Even if reduce the size of icons, still I cannot see the balance. In Windows 10, there was a sign for overflow. So it was easy to roll to next page. I will sincerely appreciate if you can please help me in this. Thanks in advance. Cheers !
Would you please make a simple vedio showing printer icons and when you click on it, then all extra pages will stop printing and clear the printer. Really like your vedios.
Any tips on how to re-enable being able to drag and drop files between programs on the task bar? They actually REMOVED it from Windows 11. Unbelievable!
hey @kevin stratvert with the new update on win 11 the task bar was taken back down as default and its unable to change using the above mentioned settings. please help me fix this if possible
Taskbar behavior .... task bar to left NOT centered......Thanks you Thank you... 80 million you tube to show how to use regedit... you showed how to do it with the personalivation i was just about ready to give up..
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!! I just updated to Win11 and the default taskbar size was just too big for me, and I initially couldn't find any setting that would decrease its size. Now I'm good. hahaha THANKS AAAAAAAAAA LOTTTTT!!!
Win11 task bar can't move sideways was really a showstopper, especially when wide screen monitors are getting more popular. I dug around and found out about Startallback, which solved the problem very nicely.
Hey Kevin, thanks for the video. I need help increasing the taskbar to show 2 or 3 rows of icons and enabling the arrow option to resize its height for adding multiple icons.
Todaaay, I wanna thank Kevin for educating me and debunking those earlier reports saying that It is impossible to change Windows 11 taskbar settings, resize it and pin apps to it. Once again, thank you "Kevin-Microsoft"!
Can the taskbar be moved to the left side of the screen? Also, can I have programs, apps or ungrouped in the taskbar? I might have 4 Excel open and I want to see them individually like I can in Windows 10. I don't like things grouped and have to hover the mouse over them to look Good video by the way
