I was born in 1998, and I remember the sights and sounds of the Windows 98 PC that my parents had growing up, including the sounds of the CPU booting up.
The year 2002 and I was 11-12 years old. My friend had installed AOE II and I would get just 30 minutes every alternate day to sit on PC to play the game (strict and disciplined parents). The excitement, the anxiety while starting up the PC that would take a good 3-4 minutes, is something I miss so much today. The B/W Paintbrush is also something I grew up using. Those days were less chaotic and least dependent on technologies. How times fly.
I still run Win 3.11 on a laptop and Win 98 on an old desktop for some very useful specialised legacy software which has never been updated. MS flight simulator 98 and 2000 only run on the W98 machine, another reason to keep it. However, I find the MS startup music annoying.
