Windows XP was the operating system I used when I was a little kid. Brings back memories. I had an eMachines computer running Windows XP Home Edition SP2, dunno which model it is.
This shows real promise. If I could get, perhaps, a lite weight modern OS like LuBunto (I really just want a full web browser) then my iPad Pro M1 would finally serve as my single device to rule them all!
I still have pretty good memories of ZSNES. My older brother introduced me to emulation about 20+ years ago through that emulator. I used it alot throughout the early to late 00's. It's crazy how much emulation has changed since I started emulating consoles as a 10 year old kid.
I remember Zsnes somebody uploaded a rom pack that had like all of them in one file so you would spend ages trying to find super mario allstars+world to play ahah
I completely forgot about zSNES until this video! That was also my first emulator as a kid; had a lot of fun playing all of my favorite games again at that time. I remember setting up a controller for that was terrible since I don't remember it having a save feature for button layouts... Good times.
I used Windows XP up to the year 2020 until I upgraded to Windows 11, the same PC too. It was unsupported but managed to jump hoops. Specs: - Motherboard: M4N68T-M LE - CPU: Phenom 1090T - GPU: XFX GeForce 6800 GS - RAM: Micron 2x4gb DDR3 - SSD: Adata 240gb SU630 - HDD: WD 1200JS (120gb) - PSU: Hiper 425w
@@Art_bor added specs to main comment. My biggest issue was finding the older Nvidia GPU drivers to work with W11, after some research I found some that worked with that old GPU.
This is a cool feature even if the performance is kinda trash. It would be cool if they could somehow get active working access to direct3d though. Then it would be really neat to see the gaming performance while in winxp.
Been doing some research and it looks like on the M1 chip devs just haven’t managed it yet. Was so excited to test some games like Halo and farcry. Hopefully it comes soon
@@ETAPRIME Being that I'm a hardcore android guy I'm still impressed with what the m1 can do. I'm sure it has more than enough power to drive that the devs just need to find a way!
I think it makes more sense to have Win2000. Win2k had the ability to be VERY clean and VERY minimal. As long as you got the exact drivers for each device nothing would break or upset it. No driver simply meant no device and not bricked OS. WinXP was a complete total mess where drivers could give you BSODs forever even Safe-Mode wasnt really safe 😛and unknown device meant it kept trying to find a driver or do weird stuff. Reinstall every 3 to 6 months just to keep it running
ETA calling an XP version of Oregon Trail "the old version" really makes me feel old. I always thought the C64 version in the 70s was the "old version," and the Apple II version from the 80s as the "new version."
Neither do I. While most of the computers in my college run on Ubuntu alongside Windows 10, there are many old computers that they still haven't thrown own that run Windows XP. Heck with even the last available version of Firefox (which is version 52 ESR), I could get quite a few sites like reddit working.
@@abdulkhujliwal786 If you care, tell them to replace Firefox with its XP-focused alternative called MyPal, it gets updates for security and supports the same addons. I run it on my old rig and it's exceptional, I can upload anything to my cloud storage accounts and download straight from there, whereas Firefox 52 ESR would struggle if not outright crash on Google Drive or MEGA, could be the lack of RAM, but still I have no issues on MyPal.
I got Windows 11 running full speed on my M1 Ipad Pro. It’s actually quite easy (no altstore, no sideloading). However as far as I know it only works on M1 Ipads. Great Video btw. Best regards.
To think SNES emulation wasn't easy back in the day, now you're running an iPad running UTM running Windows XP running a DOS emulator and it's working just fine.
Minesweeper rule: The number you see represents how many bombs there are in the 8 squares that surrounds the number. So avoid the bombs with this information. That's it.
This is awesome!!! Please, can you make a step by step guide how to setup? I’m struggling to make it work!!! Thank you in advance, keep up the good work :)
If only Apple allowed sideloading. Can you imagine the amount of cool stuff we’d have on these devices? Super disappointing that Apple continues to “protect” us for their 30% cut.
You should be able to run a VM with 2gb of RAM safely on the ipad air m1. You might be able to run Debian arm on it, and do some code editing with something like Thonny, or other lightweight linux software like Gimp or Inkscape. Doesnt sound like a bad idea to try out, modern desktop software on the go!
Please try more operating systems! I'm most curious about Windows for ARM (any version, but 11 would make the most sense I think) or maybe a decent Linux distro like Manjaro and do the same tests.
@@kajurn791 all that can also change too the military uses XP and they need there security too and besides a cumputer infection happens mostly when you let it and it's easy enough to prevent through 3rd party software.
Virtual Machines have existed for years and are available on every operating system, it's not revolutionary and 99% of the games/apps won't run, so it's useless.
@@bruhname2072 just a reminder that this is not just a virtual machine, it's an Emulator as the M1 is ARM but windows XP requires x86. And a fully emulated OS requires way more CPU performance than a Virtual machine.
@@kjjustinXD UTM is literally a virtual machine and not an emulator.... A virtual machine simulate by virtualization an operating system. On the other hand, an emulator can only emulate given programs and not the whole OS environment...
@UCA3JgBWLEsw9fUjUQDXdzqw it's an Emulator because it emulates x86 calls so an ARM based system can understand it. The M1 is not an x86 CPU so you are forced to emulate. Please read up on stuff like this before you blabber nonsense.
You should give Retroarch dos-box-pure core a shot.. have Win98 with full 3dfx support running here... loving Interstate '76 after a 25 year break..It's also possible to get the beloved Windows 'Fista' running through the core too.
@@yeniversiyon There is a difference between a Mac and an iPad and iPad have some limitations that Mac don't... Also there are two versions of UTM, one for Mac and one for iPhones/iPads.
@ETAPrime - Requesting a video with your thoughts on WebRcade. They recently had an update to include N64 and DropBox game saves. I’d love your thoughts and method of setup. 😊👍
Hiii loved the video! If you could can run Windows 7 or 10 that would sooo cool! Because I'm thinking about getting the air 5 actually not sure if that will run Windows 10 or 7. Have a great day!
I would love to see you run Win98 on it. Also, the rules of minesweeper are irrelevant. It randomly generates the field when you open it instead of when you make the first click, so you'll often hit a mine for your first move, which is completely unfair for a game.
I would like to see you do another one besides Windows (ie whatever variant of Linux). Is there a way to do this on Android via another method that does NOT require VNCing?
