Thanks for the video Jeff. I’m real lucky I can pic the days I want. Went out today, only saw one other boat, caught a really nice 32” snook, and jumped another. Perfect weather and saw the launch also.
Sounds like a perfect day! I never pay attention to the launch schedules, but it's always cool to be out on the water in the south end and hear that rumble, then watch the launches up close.
Looks like a great day despite that wind Jeff! Just went out this morning.. launched out River breeze with my wife. The water was clear and flat, worked my way through the mangroves towards Eldora mostly just small trout and some very ravenous mullet! Believe they just got done spawning recently?? They wouldn’t stay off my fly today.
Hate to change the subject Jeff, I know you made a video about sunglasses.. I am about to purchase the Costa sunglasses and am really torn as to add the green mirror or not to the amber lens. What’s your opinion on that option?
Mike, I've only ever had one pair of amber fishing lenses without the mirror. Granted, this was a long time ago but I've always stuck with the amber or copper with green mirror combinations ever since. As I recall, the straight amber lenses seemed "flatter", without as much contrast. I will tell you, I've been wearing the Bajio's far more than the Costas lately. Not because I think they're better, but because I find them more comfortable to wear all day long.
Won’t argue with you there. I’ve been fishing the lagoon for almost 24 years and it’s a far cry from what it used to be. I’m sure 40 years ago was incredible.
I was in somewhat deeper water, 2.5' to 3' deep and could see I was getting follows on soft plastics and pulled the hooks on a topwater again, so I wanted something sub-surface that would have a lot of action and sound. As I mentioned in the video, mirrodines are an old favorite so they were the first thing to come to mind and I knew I had some with me.
I got a question for you. I don’t know if it’s a dumb question or not you fishing on a pretty wide-open area and your casting, are you blind, casting or by experience you know that the fish are around there or did you spotted anything on your fishfinder?
Not a dumb question. I did talk about this a little in the video, but for the most part, I was blind casting. Early I was fishing an area with a topwater, where I've caught fish many times before, so I was just fan casting, hoping to pick something up. But later, in the larger open areas where I was catching trout, I've never fished a lot of that before, so I was just blind casting and covering water. It was deeper there, approximately 2.5-3ft, so I could use the mirrodine effectively since it's a suspending bait. As for the fishfinder, I never use it on the flats. It's way too shallow for sonar to be effective. I can see the fish with my eyes so there's no reason to use sonar.
