The problem that some units are torn in front of the handle has unfortunately occurred only after the first series production. As a result, the patch on the handle was enlarged and reinforced in a running chance - since then, this problem no longer occurs! If someone still has an old wing from the first production and something like this happens, the wing will be replaced under warranty. For Wings where the problem occurred, it usually happened during the first flights. So if you have been on the water with a Unit or Unit D/LAB a few times and nothing has happened, you can safely travel the world with it.
@@abbearmanyes each year is better .and dlab are among the best but with Still some weaknesses.that s the wing evolution.and next one wil be better. Try a neil pryde or a patrickor an ocean rodeo you will see already why the nextduotone will improuve its high end, pumping and acceleration.
FYI regarding DuoTone - A fix was made after the first run of wings. All new wings after the first run of the 2022 have been reinforced and haven’t seen an issue since. You will notice subsequently in all 2023 the reinforcement was upgraded even more to go from one handle to the other. The alulla fabric has the internal material for the sewing process, not for reinforcement needs. Duotone has a fantastic warranty department and replacement program.
I am one of rep for Boards and more (Duotone fanatic) wind wing division. I am one of two accepting and sending these warranties replacements out. The fix was made at the Sri Lanka factory around December/January. Depending on where you live, this would be around 2/3 months after that for your particular shop to stock the fix. We have zero problem warranting this issue when we have been made aware by the dealers. We strive to stand behind every product, and we do a great job of it. It is sad to hear when people don’t receive the level of service we hold ourselves to. Hope this feedback helps.
Thanks for sharing ! Beeing often wing foiling in waves , I consider is point to buy expensive wing. Takoon v2 and gong v3 are doing the job and you can nearly have 2 for the price of expensive ones.... When see tricks do with cheap Wings, better invest in your foils
The rip in front of the rear handle...happened to me, too. Claim warranty.. got a NEW wing no questions asked. They are fantastic wings though, best on the market. I also have a Slick SLS, which seems, in the handle/boom departement, a bit stronger.
Duotone is constantly upgrading its products and the US Dist. does a GREAT! job handling warranities fairly and quickly. I have full confidence in these models and the brand!
I have 3 Duotone Units 2022, and they are all in a great shape. Put them through some work, and I can only recommend them. It's nice that you showed us what can happen, but that's why DT has one of the best warranty policies.
I agree. They have one of the best products and warranty on the market. It's time for the big brands to accept warranty worldwide. What really make customers disappointed is when they travel with the gear, have problems and can't count with warranty cause they're in another country. What they supposed to do?
As a former Product manager for Swiss expensive watches, I had to care also that new products are tested and not bring problems for customers, so people who says in their comment : ‘oh but that was a model from last year’ or ‘we will replace them ‘ not care about the customer who buy the new product at first…when you are on holidays and your wing is destroyed, you are more than disappointed. I appreciate that someone shows what can happen and there are not enough videos about this. I hope the brands make better solidity test before selling: that is really unfair, not you who shows the results of their incapacity. For exemple, I’ m wondering why the Cabrinha Crosswing X3 disappeared in 2023 ? The concept look interesting but fragile… reminds me also the North Seek board 2021 with very complicated shape supposed to take off better and one year after, the board is completely flat and pretend to take off better this way. Someone tested it really before selling it ?
You said it all. Sometimes the problems with kites/wings are so obvious that I doubt someone with basic construction skills (to not mention a proper engineer) has been working on it. Plus, the products are not tested. When we talk about wings (more than kites), the customers are testing and finding the problems themselves. Seems like part of wings in the market are actually like prototypes instead final products due to the amount of problems it has. Also, warranty for those products should be worldwide. Most of my clients brang their gear from other countries as they are foreigners. Where's the warranty when they need a replacement? I never made so much money as a kite repair (repairing wings) but still I'm doing my statement and video here. Season 23 is coming and you can be sure there will be new problems (and videos about it).
Easy Technical an industrial answer. The board were too difficult and expensive to produce with this shape and of curse fragile because no rail wrapinng and no full carbon. This type of shape is proven for early for early off for many years in all waterspits but very very expensive if you want quality
For the reinforcement this means you would have to open the leading edge. We do a perfect sewing here cause the machine and some practice we have. Most of the people don't want to do that. If you have a hole there, that's your only option. Before this part get damaged you can stick something there to prevent that part get scratched. I will make a video about how to add the strings. It worth doing it.
I am new to wing foiling , and just going to buy the Duotone slick still happy with the company . A strong build is number 1 for me after spending lots of money

Fala Rafael. Já consertaram o problema. Isso não é a primeira vez nem é exclusividade da duotone. Quase todas as marcas tem seus "bugs". Sempre os primeiros clientes pagam o pato. O tal do first batch. Nunca compre um modelo novo assim que sai. Essa é a dica.
I fix this stuff too. Naish MK4 so far is the strongest. People fall for the latest plastic fantastic tech gimmicks. I don't like the mix of hard with soft. Something has to give.
There was a similar problem in the Cabrinha Mantis 2022. But I'm sure they fixed it. The fact is, the first batch of customers always pay the price. My client had all his cabrinhas with broken handle, no warranty in Brazil. The guy was literally crying.
Renforcement are very expensive .i would prefer lower cost as it is very easy to put some good quality industral tape for less tha 10 dollars as a very good protection. Done on all my wings . The vertical protection is not sufficient or nor really useful for me. I generraly rig on a hard agressive surface in strong winds.
Complicated to assume which one since the wings I don't see sometimes it's wings that people aren't using around. There's a professional rider using the RRDs but she said she can't do the tricks she was doing before on another wing (fone) cause the wing is heavier etc. So sometimes the best in construction aren't the best in performance. I don't want to step in that subject before a good research.
@@radosawfurmanski2877 My 4m RRD Wing W Y27 ripped exactly like the Unit in the video after less than 1 month of use and they refused to provide me any warranty. They also said that most likely I ripped it with the foil, which I already explained it wasn't the case...so no more RRD for me.

Any Unit with this problem will be replaced, credited or repaired. The customer needs to go through the proper warranty process through their dealer and send them the required photos and documents. This happened to a very small percentage of Units, this is a very popular wing and Duotone sold a lot of them, the small percentage amounts to what seems like a lot of warranties. The ‘23 Unit strut has been reinforced around the base of the handles to assure this isn’t an issue moving forward.
