Sadly, I had an unfortunate experience with an online seller (on the Pinduoduo platform). My blue 629 arrived with cosmetic defects, including some resulting from pre-sale cross-threading, and a divot on the section (apparently from melting). I thought I'd still give it a try since the seller refused to take a return the day after receipt. As it happens, the pen leaked its entire barrel of ink onto my pad of paper. Would love to love this pen because the nib is very pleasant, and the resin would have been as well - if not for the defects. Hopefully, other buyers will have better luck.

Seems like a pretty darn good pen/deal to me! The only Wing Sung pens I currently own are the 601 and 601A ... love them! Cool filling mechanisms and both write like a champ!

Another great video! I really like the look of the nib and the fact that it's a piston filler... if I can find one at a reasonable price with a medium nib, I'll probably add it to my ever growing list.

One of the best looking Chinese pens out there to date. There are a couple of US pen makers who produce very high quality light weight pens. But I’ll see how I really like when it arrives in a couple of weeks.

@@chrisrap52 Hello. I just received it and I do see what you mean about it being light. The cap seems heavier than the body which is a bit strange. It looks much like my flat top Sailors and Pilots which is why I really wanted it. It can be taken to work and I won’t be as distraught if it goes missing. One thing I did notice was a very small defect in the black paint under the top cap band. Trying to decide if it’s worth trying to fill it in with black paint. Just pulled out my Pilot 912 and this 629 does feel less substantial. So the combination of the feel and that visual defect does detract from my perception of quality. Your review was in my opinion spot on. Thanks for what you do.

Hi Chris! My friend told me the New Wingsung Flagship product WS 600 will be sent for experimental sale in 12th November.It will equipped with No.8 18K nib and metal piston filler and enbonite barrel.

If you use the bright light behind the pen you will find it is .or black, but a very deep red, like a MB precious resin barrel. I think it is a very good pen and like you stated, it writes well. I would highly recommend this one.

Hi Chris! This technical review is very interesting and important. Various Chinese sellers, including specialized ones, classify these Wing Sung nibs as # 6. They actually have a length of 33 millimeters; I have 3 installed on Jinhao feeds in Jinhao Centennial fountain pens. They highlight the need for a more appropriate feed. Thanks for all!

Chris! An interesting fountain pen news: I've just been told, there will be a new touch-down filler fountain pen out, and it's going to be around 20 dollars (steel nib of course), penbbs 489, the last touch down fountain pen was the heritage-II back from the 90's, so it is kind of fun to watch this sheaffers' only filler back to life. :)

Nice pen. Piston fillers instantly appeal to me. And this one holds plenty of ink. The size and dimensions are good. But the light weight is a bit of a disappointing downside, I think. The foremost reason I quit buying Chinese pens, apart from simply tiring of them, is the underwhelming nature of the nibs and the desperate lack of a wider range of nib size option (at least nib sizes that I prefer). I had sworn off buying Chinese pens - before just ordering the Jinhao X159, mainly because of the nib and my sheer curiosity and keenness to try it out. I won’t buy this pen. But it’s still always good and fun to see new pens showcased so very well on this channel. Btw, you called this WS 629 a 626 throughout this review. The WS 626 is one of only five Chinese pens that I cared to keep in my collection.

Thanks for the review Chris. I have plenty of Wing Sung pens so like you I'll probably give it a pass. I am really interested in getting one of those wrenches. I have the one that comes with Twsbi pens but I can't find the wing sung wrench. Any suggestions for a vendor?

Nice review, I've been eyeing this one for a while. But like you, I feel the design is a little lackluster. It would've be nice to see them use the finial's matte gold on the rest of the trim or maybe a more unique set of colors.

I ordered a cigar shaped blue one with this kind of window, as yours. I got an all-clear window model. Apart from that, the performance of my pen is PERFECT. A juicy F that never fails. I notice that the nib is a bit smaller than #6... am I wrong? A normal Jinhao 6 nib fits... with lots of pressure. Same with vac 699.

I think the Wing S 698 is the best piston filler they made if we’re talking about the same company. I never know for sure. I’ve had the 698 for several years now and it is a reliable, smooth writer. Thanks for a nice review of the 626. 👍😎.

Wing Sung 629 is currently one of the best seller in Chinese market, but not for the steel nib, it is for the 14k gold nib. There are EF, F, M. B and even BB available, but the best seller nib is the Naginata Togi tupe of gold nib, which they called Jun Feng 君锋. They have JFM and JFB variations. Apparently they are better for Chinese calligraphy, does not mean that much for the English writers.
@chrisrap52
@chrisrap52 2 года назад
I'm surprised the 14K nib versions outsell the gold. I have not seen the M, B, BB & JF 14K nibs available on eBay. Did find one seller offering a B 14k nib on AliExpress, model Yong sheng 629. Must be all sold for Chinese market.
