I think the thing you're referring to, and (properly) warning against is "cone OVER-excursion." After all, "cone excursion" is the reason we buy/use speakers (all kinds of spkrs that use cones, that is...). Cone excursion is the means of compressing/rarifying air molecules---sometimes referred to as "sound," although the term "sound waves" is sometimes (incorrectly) used to describe this phenomenon.

You are right. A few people got on me for that. I was trying to be just use the words the program used, as to not confuse people that were new to this. But if I did it again, I would choose my words better. Thank you for the great response.

I dare you to plug your subwoofer into a 1000W amplifier and turn your volume up to max...that is beyond rock concert level of volume. even 100W into a 12'' speaker is INSANE. So really I dont think you should compromise on your enclosure design in terms of frequency response just to not bottom out at full power...you'll never use the speaker at full power

thank you, please I have a 30w, 8ohm speaker. that's the only 2 data I read on the emant. how I can calculate the air of my box (speaker) to be made using winISD?

What if over excursion happens above the tuning frequency? I have a tuning frequency of 38hz and overexcursion occurs from 40 to 50 hz. Is that ok? And what can I do?

Then you are either pushing too many watts trough it, or your box is too big.

Why does my cone excursion plot come out as a flat line across the bottom?

for the signal input if u doing multiple drivers do u input the max for one driver or all of them ?

OK for RMS but on peaks excursion will still occur...

I'm using a 12 inch jbl s2-1224 And i tuned a box at 22 hz 4.5 cubic feet Im getting overexcursion at 19hz with 200w which is not an issue and port air velocity is below 16 About 105db at 20hz according to spl Will this play loud enough at 200w ? The sub need 275w rms I cannot put more power from my 500w amp otherwise i get overexcursion at 30hz and 25hz Will the sub play loud enough and low enough at 200w ? Is 105 db loud enough for 30 and 20hz? Im building this for home theater

Beginner here need help. I have problem with my 6" sub cone excurtion. www.legacy.us.com/productdetail.php?categ=K11&idproduct=22 Please can anyone help? If i use filter (like your tutorial) which i dont know how to design all the electronic component, the f3 cannot go low. If im not using filter the main graph looks nice. I Design the box, closed box at 28 liters (1cu.fe)

I have this exact sub, and my respons frequency and cone movements are not even close to yours. I understand som of what du are telling, but it's making me a little confused.

I have designed a lot of speakers in WinISD and almost every one of them using a ported enclosure has exceeded cone excursion unless I place a high pass on the woofer I want to be able to use some of my vintage amplifiers that do not have DSP... so I looked into building a second order High pass filter one one of my speakers and I would need a large 53Mh inductor and capacitor. This would allow me to go down to 53Hz 3db down lol that is huge No idea where I could even find one that big. and it would probably be pretty expensive. But if I use a first order using only a capacitor it works but my low end is now 60Hz. I guess another option are some of those RCA line level high pass filters I have seen for sale. but those only work for me if my amplifier has main in and out on the back. Some do some don't.

You really don’t typically need a passive high pass. I can’t think of any manufacturer that uses a high pass. There’s a lot of reasons for this, including a high-pass typically being on the amplifier that you’re listening to also using the speakers as they were designed. In fact, I can’t think of any speaker that uses a passive high pass crossover. But I do understand why you would think that, especially seeing the graph in winISD.

@@Toid have been trying to build a 3 way box ..and i tried various drivers as woofer.. ..tang band W6, Sb acoustics 6", 8" drivers (11mm xmax)...and all of them are exceeding Xmax at around 20Hz above 10 watts signals....how am I supposed to deal with that?!?...it's all in winisd ?!?..theirs RMS are 60 watts but Xmaxs are reaching even under 10 watts...i tried lowering the box volume or increase tuning frequency..but even at 40-50Hz@0db.. nothing better

I watched and read a lot of forums and clips especially yours but i still cant get it I want to build 2 floorstanding speakers. I intend to use all dayton audio drivers. Per speaker: 4 woofers dayton audio rs 180 - 7 inch 8ohm paper drivers 1 4 inch fullrange 8 ohm paper driver 1 textile soft dome tweeter so all about that xmax and box tuning it is state 6mm Xmax for the driver but when complied in winisd even at rated power of 60 watts rms per speaker it exceeds it twice should i worry about something

The best thing to do would be to post some photos of your graphs that show the box size tuning excursion etc on the Forum so we can look at it. www.toidsdiyaudio.com

My problem is that my sub isn't moving enough... im charting 4 ZVX 15v2s and cant get them to cross that 29mm line. I'm having issues making it cross the red line. Even at 10 Hertz I'm able to play the subs at 6000 Watts without them reaching xmax. Wtf winISD
@Toid
@Toid 5 лет назад
Sounds like your data is wrong. Make sure you input the data correctly. Ie make sure you have each data set to the correct unit, when inputting the subwoofer days. It sounds like you may have input something like feet instead of inches or the metric equivalent. Or set it to meters instead of mm for xmax. You have to be careful of that
@sethh8892
@sethh8892 5 лет назад
@@Toid ive checked it and its fine. 29mm for xmax, all the data is damn near exactly what the box says etc. Even with a box that is 22.5cuft and has a port that is 16" ×10" tuned to 35hz, still, no movement.

this is the best explanation I have seen so far on YT on cone excursion. Can you please make a video on transfer magnitude function as its one of the most important graph in winisd. :)

I think you should research deeper into this "cone excursion phenomenon"
@Elnufo
@Elnufo 5 лет назад
If you do not want cone excursion to happen, you must switch off your Amp. Cone Excursion simply means, that the cone is moving. You might want to research what the Terms actually mean, before getting it all wrong in public.
@Toid
@Toid 5 лет назад
We're obviously talking about over excursion. Excursion is how far the cone moves. Feel free to read about it here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excursion_(audio)
