Great advice! But honestly at the breed level, the steward calls everyone in while the judge isn’t paying attention. My main goal when this happens is to get to the directed spot and get my dog in a perfect stack so that when the judge sees him for the first time he’s picture perfect

There are no ringcraft classes anywhere near where I live, I don't have a mentor of any kind, and the Saluki club lot are very unhelpful and unfriendly so i really appreciate these videos, I've learned and improved so much.

Excellent. Prince Hairy and I need to practice this a bunch. Prince Hairy balks at the entry to the ring. We need to practice this. I need to practice body posture, relaxed, and ensure PH feels confident. Pretty sure its me more than him!

As a beginner.this exercise makes sense except our (open class) ring entry isn’t a straight shot forward. Instead we go through the gate entrance and immediately turn right, @ three steps max, and line up in front of the judge. Then we each “run” a couple steps is all, before turning again to go all the way around. Seems challenging to really get a smooth gait going up front, given we don’t have a straight shot into the ring like this video shows. Suggestions?

what if your dog doesnt really walk gracefully despite not pulling? Is there a way to teach them to strut nicely?

Eliminate eye contact, train on a loose lead, and have good body posture.

Stop looking at your dog. Your dog is trying to get you to engage

Eric knows his stuff and is an excellent teacher. BUT...if only judges were actually looking at dogs and how they're presented rather than looking for the faces of those handling the dogs and remembering seeing those faces in the ads in the show magazines. After almost twenty years of showing dogs unfortunately that's the real game going on in the ring. I wish it were otherwise.
