That Xing lookin guy was called Kimberly I forget the first name... the Crimson Alchemist. You met him briefly in episode 1 and maybe once after that briefly. So its understandable you would forget their name and such. I only remember because I have watched this and the 2003 anime several times each.

I really started appreciating Scar when he accepted his potential death at the hands of Winry - he knows he wasn’t justified in killing her parents and isn’t being a hypocrite about it.

This is one of my favorite episodes, I love the moment between Ed and Winry, and it's interesting getting to see more of Scar's backstory, too.

The moment between Winry and Ed at the end always makes me tear up. Not only is the writing great and the voice acting awesome, but the slow progression of music as the scene goes on just enhances the emotional experience. Then on top of that the credits song starting with "Let it all out" is just is the cherry on top because it's almost as if the show is giving you permission to fully let out all your emotion and tears. There are multiple moments in this arc of the show where the outro song fits the emotional beats of the episode. And just in general the FMAB soundtrack is so amazing; I never get tired of listening to it.

11:00 - he thought he was experimented by them: after all, alchemy was made for war.

When you do that kind of damage to somebody, it's impossible to ask the victim to take it sitting down. In the words of John Rambo, "you don't just turn it off." Amestris enacted a genocide, then just went home like its another day at the office.

When you finish FmaB, you have to watch the bloopers and the 4-koma (4 panel comic)theater. In the 4-koma part for this episode Scar offers to be Winry’s new parents, both mother and father. You can start watching the first bit of the 4 koma theater now, at least to part 6. There are 16 parts total, with 4 shorts per part. Yes, there is an English version. They’re really funny and worth watching!

Nina's case, for me, is the perfect example of why death can be merciful. Life for the sake of life only brings more sufferings. And I'm happy that Scar was empathic enough to do it. When he killed the Rockbells, he was in a shock state and acting in self-defense. As you said, it could have been anyone. We're only feeling bad because we know there were Winry's parents and we care for her. And Scar is perfectly fine with her hatred because he knows it too well. He's aware that she's just in seeking revenge on him. But that doesn't mean he'll just let himself get killed because of this. Revenge plots are always complexe because usually, people who say it's not a good thing haven't experienced that loss. It takes incredible strengh to be able to distance yourself for personal hurt and consider the bigger picture. Here, Scar is a victime as well and he must listen, to get a chance of changing his mind. After all, he could be on a murder spree against anyone in this country. But he only targets state alchmists, because of what they've done and what they represent. What's really interesting is that Scar didn't like alchemy to begin with, even if it was on his people side, and even more his brother. He believes that's not a good thing and yet, he was forced by his own brother to bare that curse. And rather than give up and succumb to despair, he decided to use that awful thing to avenge his people. He's a very well written character who can do good once he realized his path is not the right one. He's starting to have comrades and to care for them, kinda like Greed in his time. It's only when you have something to lose that you can start to change.

"“Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring. Winry's hands give life, they should never be used to take it.
