There's many channels of people doing trails showing us i.d of medicinals.. but what I like that you do differently is also add tips and clues to why they appear there.. sharing your thinking patterns.. such as the cottonwood twigs for morels. Thanks

I'm in Georgia, and I just found a log that's exploding with turkey tail, I harvested about 2lb and did not even dent the population. Then a few downed trees away I found a fungal pre growth of bright orange I am hoping to be chicken of the woods. Going back tomorrow after work to get a massive harvest for myself and family.

I had to comment when you mentioned the weather this winter. We had a bad storm about three weeks ago. Ended up be about five feet over a few days. Then we had back to back wind storms outting our power for four days. Sounds bad right? Wrong. This was our first brown christmas in my lifetime (64 years) and we usually have had five feet or more by this time. Buffulo got hammered but the Tug Hill where I am dodge most of it. 20 - 30 feet is the norm. We have some snow now but most melted. Sorry to go on about the weather but there is a point. Every year we have a weird winter it's followed by a weird spring and summer. Last year I had to haul in water to water my gardens! They wouldn't germinate. Then after spring we got rain but temps were cold. Long story short , no reishi season... at all. No show for the second time since I've been foraging , which ain't that long. Anyhow , I enjoyed the walk in the woods and look forward to seeing more videos. Liked and subbed, happy trails.

Thanks for your comment and welcome aboard! That is a shame to miss out on the Reishi harvest - definitely the one that I look forward to finding the most! Today was 62 degrees out here in Western WA - a record high for this date... it will be interesting to see how things shake out. Already seeing things budding out, but I'm sure there's more cold on the way out here before we're done with winter. Hope my favorite plants don't get shocked too hard. Thanks for watching! More to come soon!

@@MushroomTrail Yeah we have bare ground showing and should have several feet of solid snow insulating roots. Wifes garlic is toast. Natives that have been here are dieing out. Yeah I re-arranged my schedual for reishi season. Fortunately I didn't sell all the bumper crop I got the year before. I sold 120 pounds to one customer in Cali and still have mabe 15 pounds. They were vac-sealed so still pretty potent. I've been making tinctures as fast as I can afford the booze! If the shtf I'll be a wealthy man.

Wow - that's amazing! Hope this year's Reishi season is another bumper crop - sometimes they surprise me.
@timothylongmore7325
@timothylongmore7325 8 месяцев назад
@@MushroomTrail Does your strain of reishi follow a seasonal pattern? I would imagine it's temperture and moisture sensitive. I know they get big.
@MushroomTrail
@MushroomTrail 8 месяцев назад
@@timothylongmore7325 It definitely does! They tend to come out late August / early September and can get to be really big. Ironically, even though the summer/fall of 2022 was a horrible year for most all mushrooms out here (due to being really dry, and then a quick cold snap) it was a great year for reishi... so they seem to march to their own beat out here. But the beat is, thankfully, steady for the most part!

I'm not convinced that was Turkey Tail. It looks more toothy than tiny pores?
@MushroomTrail
@MushroomTrail 14 дней назад
Thanks for tuning in! I just watched back the footage and wanted to confirm that I still believe this is turkey tail ... although I can certainly see how it looked a little tooth-like when I folded the cap back. This was filmed in January, so I think it was a little wet and had been out a fair while. There is a common lookalike out here that is toothed (Trichaptum genus) but it looks quite a bit different from those depicted here. Let me know if there was a species that you had in mind though ... I'm always happy to double back and confirm details. Turkey Tail is one of my favorites!
