I’m in Southwest WA, nice to see more channels like this popping up. I’ve watched a few of your videos now and they remind me of Mushroom Wonderland, we need about 30 more of you guys! I like the slower movements of the camera, doesn’t make me as motion sick as MW. Good luck on your future forays!

Thanks so much for the kind words! Really glad you're liking the channel!!! And I love what Aaron has done out at Mushroom Wonderland ... all of these mushroom walks are such a great way for us all to share and continue to learn. Happy Trails, and stay tuned! More to come!

i absolutely love your videos!! they're incredibly informative and for me they're very calming and grounding because of the beautiful scenery, very nice when i can't get outside myself. i watched a video on my lunch break today after a very rough morning and i came back to work so calm and peaceful, and with a lot of new mushroom ID knowledge. so thank you for that ❤

Thank you so much for sharing this and I am so very glad that this brought a moment of calm to the day! The forest, and all the life it contains, really does bring a little peace and tranquility into our lives. Honored to be able to share a small glimpse of that and I hope that your day only improves from here!

From the remnants of the truffle you found, it looks pretty likely that it's some flavor of Elaphomyces there. Squirrels go wild for those and they can crumble the way your truffle crumbs look. Keep an eye out in that area for small black earthtongue-like fruitings, as Elaphomyces can host a parasitic fungus, Tolypocladium ophioglossoides, that will fruit on the surface but have a golden yellow rhizomorph that'll connect to the host truffle.

I know it! I've been kind of surprised to see what all is out there right now ... what an interesting mushroom year it has been! What all are you seeing out there?

i agree....slime molds are just as fascinating as fungi. found a yellow one that created what looked like a vascular structure on the bottom of a log in my old neighborhood in seattle. kept checking up on it until it turned into tiny little pins and then disappeared. my little nephew video called me one day while i was hiking and i showed him the slime mold and stuck my finger in it and grossed him out good hehehe

Ha! That is awesome! Who doesn't love a good slime mold gross out! They are such fascinating little beings. Thanks for tuning in, and I'll work to get more of those on the screen in the days ahead. Happy Trails!

We are both in Western Washington, so lots of similar habitat...but we're located on opposite sides of the Puget Sound, more than an hour away...blessed to be here the PNW!

Do you happen to know if, here in the PNW, there are any analogs of the Truffle Fly (Suillia tuberiperda) of Europe whose presence can indicate truffles maturing underground and be exploited in searching for those delicacies?
@MushroomTrail
@MushroomTrail 4 месяца назад
Wow! Your comment got me reading up on Suillia tuberiperda and I'm blown away by what I'm learning about that! Thanks a lot for sharing - I was not familiar with Europe's truffle fly, but I love having a new topic to dive deep on. I'll let you know if I discover any analogs to that here in the US. Fascinating stuff!

@@MushroomTrail Thank you -- I'm glad the topic interests you. I appreciate how willingly you communicate with viewers of your videos and I'm looking forward to reading what you might discover. I realize the day will likely come when you have so many subscribers posting so many comments and inquiries that you'll no longer be able to manage the volume and communicate as generously as you are doing at present. Until then, I will continue to relish the interaction and ask additional questions and perhaps offer occasional suggestions. Awhile back, I suggested using a tripod in order to produce steadier detail views of species as you zoom in to illustrate such identifiers as the tiny pores of Trametes versicolor and similar features. You replied that you had already, recently, acquired both a tripod and a gimbal stabilizer but needed to study the manual for the gimbal operation. (I can appreciate that!) I can think of a few items that would improve your videos (at least from my perspective as a viewer interested in both the educational and entertainment value of the content) if you'd care to consider them. I don't want to overload your video comments sections with too many and too long postings on tangential topics or suggestions that other viewers might interpret as criticism;. Would you care to read additional suggestions in occasional emails?
