Watch a week in the life of cottage witch Vera La Moss in late winter. This seasonal living vlog shows the cottage witch work in her apothecary in preparation for spring, make protection herbal sachets, read tarot cards, begin late winter garden tasks by propagating perennials by cuttings and working in an apple orchard, and make porridge.

Hearty Oatmeal Recipe per one serving:
1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
pinch of salt
pinch of cinnamon
1 serving of fruit, fresh or dried
1 cup water
1 serving of nuts
1 pat of butter, optional
1 splash of cream, optional
Combine all ingredients except cream in a small saucepan on stove. Bring up to a simmer, reduce heat to low and cook for about 5 minutes or until most of the liquid is absorbed. Stir in cream and top with nuts as desired.
All Purpose Herbal Cleaning Vinegar Recipe:
1/2 gallon distilled white vinegar
Several sprigs of fresh rosemary
1 teaspoon whole cloves
3-4 sticks of cinnamon
2-4 citrus rinds, orange or lemon preferred
2-3 tablespoons of dried lavender, thyme, or peppermint
Place herbs in a large glass jar. Cover with vinegar and stir and shake to combine. Cover jar with an airtight lid and place in a warm place out of direct sunlight for 4-6 weeks. Shake the jar periodically, and once the color darkens and the fragrance is strong, strain out the plant matter and store the remaining infused vinegar. The vinegar can be used full strength or diluted with water. Can clean glass, kitchen surfaces, wood, and floors. It is not a disinfectant.
Herbal Sachet Instructions:
Cut out 2 squares of fabric that have a loose yet sturdy weave.
Sew 3 sides of the squares together, right sides together, leaving one side open.
Turn the square inside out, push out the corners, and iron if desired.
Fill the sachet with dried herbs of choice. This video uses 1 part lavender 1 part rosemary and 2-3 parts mugwort.
Once filled, sew the opening shut by folding in the seam allowance and whip stitching the opening closed.
Plant Propagation:
Take cuttings that are 6-8 inches long and contain at least 2 sets of leaves or leaf buds.
Remove leaves and scrape away outer layer of bark from leaf nodes.
Poke a hole in a soilless potting medium and place cuttings within.
Keep the potting medium moist, but not soaking wet, and warm for 6-8 weeks. Check for rooting by lightly tugging on cutting, if there's any resistance, roots are forming.
Pot up to a larger container and fertilize until ready to transplant.
