There is a great interest in sowing summer flowers in winter!
The beauty of winter sowing is that I can grow more varieties and more plants than I can fit indoors with limited space. So for me it is a great method!
In this video I am sharing tips and useful information on how to sow seeds in winter (winter seed sowing). Perhaps you should try it too?
This video was filmed in January 2021 and then translated to English.

I love winter sowing! I just moved from a much colder climate to a bit warmer climate and I still believe in winter sowing 💪💪💪💪💪

Why have I not thought of doing this! I am reading this just after Christmas in north east England, i will try this early in the new year, it will save me so much time in the spring when I have a lot of vegetable seeds to sow and the flower seeds usually get sidelined.

Wonderful video with wonderful information. Thank you for explaining so well an aspect of gardening that too few gardeners do. Many of the native plant seeds I sow require vernalization or cold stratification and winter sowing makes it easy.

Very good explanation, Sara! It has been a very warm fall season here in Idaho, we only had one snow so far, except in the mountains. I will think about doing this after Christmas. Last year I didn’t keep up on my winter sowings very well, most of them died. I am not as diligent as you are, I hope to improve! I admire you so much for all you accomplish. Get a cheap soldering iron to more easily make holes in recycled plastic containers. Works great. Winter sowing is great for plants that require cold stratification. Love your show.

Sara thank you so much for sharing all that you do. I just wanted to let you know that the white captions are difficult to to see against light backgrounds. I'm visually impaired and am having difficulty, however, I don't expect you to cater to my needs. Just some feedback😘😘😘

How do you handle these in the spring once they have germinated? Do you transplant directly into the ground? Or do you move to pots in the poly tunnel? I love this idea, but don’t know that our frosts will be done early enough to get them moved into the ground when they are too large for the containers. I also don’t have a poly tunnel. Any suggestions or videos would be wonderful! Thank you!

Most perennials and hardy annuals (cool season annuals) do great. You can use this method for warmer season annuals and vegetables but you just set them outside in early spring not winter. I did over 200 gallon water jugs last year and only had about 6 that didnt germinate (4 of them were older seed seed packets from 2011-2018). Its worth a try with everything.
