Every December for the past several years, TSG Multimedia has teamed up with Mike Armstrong (Coasterfan2105) to bring you special program featuring one of the railroads Mike has visited. It's a truly unique collaboration, as the media and script come from Coasterfan2105, while the editing and narration are done by TSG Multimedia. So far, every annual special has been about steam trains. This year is no different.
We return to Colorado's Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad... This time, in the winter. Come along as we take a ride behind one of D&SNGRR's Mikado 2-8-2 locomotives from Durango all the way to Cascade Canyon and back.
Enjoy shots from the train as well as run-by shots in scenic locations along the route. Add to that lots of historical information, and you are in for a nice trip.

“Florida citrus grower” purchased the railroad. That’s my state, and also from my portion of Florida since there’s nothing but horses and mega farms, and river so clear you can see to the bottom. I like living here more than I like living in Miami. Lots of people with common sense, which accumulates into a linked business accruement related to such temperament. And the forests are beautiful.

i remember the Silverton Durango. i was on a mountaineering course in the San Juans during 1973. we got one of our resupplies from the train. one of us got to cross a zip line across the river and pick up the supplies. i hadn't yet been bitten by the train bug just the mountain bug. years later i rode Amtrac from Chicago to Central Illinois (one of my many trips), during the winter. I love looking out the window watching the landscape go by but it is especially relaxing when the landscape is covered with snow. i watched Polar Express and love it.

Nicely filmed John, what beautiful scenery and weather! Your commentary was very informative, although at times it did intrude on the engine working hard past the camera. A correction to one of your comments: the blowdown is used to clear sediment from bottom of boiler, not condensed warer. Water is evaporated in a boiler, not condensed! Hope I get to make this trip before I depart the planet.
@tsgmultimedia
@tsgmultimedia 8 лет назад
+struck2soon It was filmed by our friend Mike Armstrong - all credit for that goes to him!

The other correction is that the 10mph speed restriction on the High Line is because of the track curvature, not the ROW clearance. That's the curve that threatened to buck 497 before the C&TS took ownership of her and corrected her trailing truck damage from the Rio Grande days.

A further correction as to road names and place names: it's pronounced "An-ih-muss" not "Anni moss," and the founding railroad was the Denver & Rio Grande WESTERN, aka D&RGW. Documentaries have similar rules as newspaper stories: Fact Check, Fact Check, and Fact Check, and always ask locals and RR company bosses for correct place names and pronunciations. I must also say, your photography is excellent!
@ace4059dds

Not a local, but vacation Durango every year since 1978. I believe the correct pronunciation of the river is An-uh-muss.

The "english pronunciation" of the Spanish word is how you spelled it out. It's a Spanish word, however, so I pronounced it as one. I tend to do that with words that have latin-based origins.

20:20 A blow down is to remove sediment built up on the bottom of the boiler. not to remove excess steam, (a safety/release valve does that)

C. W. McCall's "The Silverton" should be playing as background music for this video. He calls it "Train to Yesterday." The lyrics say pretty much the same thing as your narration.

For Pete's sake, it's pronounced Rio Grande (GRAN-day), not "Rio Grand." Do some research, before putting out a narrated video!
@tsgmultimedia
@tsgmultimedia 3 года назад
The American English pronunciation is exactly as spoken in the narration. If you want to pronounce it with the correct Latin-based origin, it's "Rio Grahn-deh" with rolled Rs for the proper effect. Your mispronunciation isn't correct in either case. People I know who worked for the Rio Grande when it was still around all say it the way I do.
