Part 2 in search for the plane crash and we find it!!! Winter camping due to this ultimate weather window.
I take you to the summit of Mitre, the highest peak in the Tararuas and camp on so crazy frozen winter land, while hiking some mega steep ridges.
This will test my MSR tent and gear

Hey Justin - what an epic episode. The eel was very cool, the worms and huhu, a challenge I feel I'll have to check out. Those gnarly crossings of the knife-edge bits, with that bit as the sun is setting - amazing. The fall - well arrested! Would definitely have been the end of everything if you'd not managed that arrest. All of this on effectively an empty stomach and long days. Well done. Great adventure filming right there!

Nice vid bro, could ya take some food next time..? I’d be passing out low glycogen first few hours 🤣 Crampons no good for that terrain? Bloody sketchy in places. Awesome weather to camp on those peaks.. lucky bugger 👍

A mate of mine failed an alpine guide assessment for not wearing gloves while travelling in snow. If you slip, the snow shreds your skin like a cheese grater. Nice to see that terrain in good weather. I travelled it in a storm at night from Carkeek Hut.
@JUSTWILDNZ

Storms and failures can sometimes be our greatest teachers. He only failed if he didn't go back....and that's only if it was still important to that person. If someone says "no" doesn't mean no, just means my timing or my delivery was off

Wouldn't mind getting a list of the gear you're using in this video, and if you've swapped it out for anything better recently. You specifically mentioned trialling a new sleeping bag, keen to see what you used, said it was warm, and they're good testing conditions. And must compress well, pack looked lightish. Use a sleeping mat? Tent - very curios what model it is, currently using a 3kg 2person at moment, and its half the weight of the pack - most important upgrade for me! Could be a good 20-30min standalone video - gear - what works, what doesn't.? Why it works etc.Love the vids, took my 15yr old bush last week, and we both had a feed of supplejack after watching one of your prior episodes also 🙂

This message is what it's all about!!!!it get's me some amped. How lucky we are to be surrounded with amazing adventure and to enjoy it with our kids. Love the idea of a pack reveal, am doing one with a few tents to help cut out the confusion of 3-4season tents. Will reply again soon with the 3 different sleeping bags and tents used.
@JUSTWILDNZ

Hey brother. The MSR tent was Access 2 which is a 4 season tent 1.6kg. Absolutely amazing tent for that 4th season(winter) for summer I've been using a MSR front range(you must check this out) or MSR Huba Huba for season 1 Season 2 I'm adding to the mix Tatonka and Marmot tents which is mega exciting. Sleeping mat was Thermarest NeoairXtherm Sleeping bags wow Rab Rab Rab!!!! works for me big time Rab Mythic Ultra 360 (only 600g) is my main bag I love love love this bag Rab Neutrino Pro for winter. This is a new range and crazy warm Rab Andes 1000 for anything -20 .This is heavy but when your life is on the line it's out of this world , this is the bag I used on this episode. Rab bags are expensive but worth every cent. You must store them correctly when not in use....like every sleeping bag. I am sponsored by all of these companies but wouldn't use them if they didn't blow my mind.

Hey Justin. Awesome watching all your videos. You put them together so well. Couple of questions... you obviously walk in from blue bluff? Also why did you choose snow shoes over crampons? Is it for ease of use as crampons can hook up on tussock etc ?... I've never used snow shoes.
@JUSTWILDNZ
@JUSTWILDNZ 2 года назад
Hey Scott, walked in from holdsworth. Was the first big dump of winter snow so had no base crusted. I should have also taken crampons. Snow shoes can be amazing when conditions are right like on the second day of the snow cave episode Thanks so so much for watching, new episode has a different format to keep it more interesting. Hope you like it
