Nice but the only suggestion I have is the order of doing things. I do basically everything you just did but in this order : Drain the fuel and run the mower dry. While the engine is still warm, drain the oil. Now here is where I differ. Now that you have No Fuel AND No Oil in the mower, NOW is a better time to flip it over to clean, sharpen blades remove wheels, etc. BEFORE adding oil back into the machine. This way you really don't have to worry about which way your flipping it and I also remove the spark plug and put some oil in it before I put it to top dead center. Just my way/order of doing it. Leave the oil refill for last.

That's a great lawn mower. My mower is a Craftsman branded Murray that was picked up from the curb that somebody was getting rid of. Had a sign on it that said "free, won't start". I opened up the air box and the filter was so full of dirt and grass clippings the engine couldn't breathe. With no air filter it started in 2 pulls. Did the basic maintenance to it and I'm still using that machine today. This was back in 2013 when I rescued it. I'm still amazed at people who buy things and then don't try to even learn how to properly take care of them. $5 for a filter but they'd rather go and buy a whole new lawn mower 🤦

Blows me away too my friend! I picked up a leaf blower out of the trash when I was on a walk with my wife. Got it home put gas in it and it started right up. Sold it for $60. Crazy what people get rid off and don’t even bother fixing. This Honda rocks.

Right? It literally takes at the most 15 min on RU-vid to search why lawn mower won't start? Search that and 150+ videos pop up showing how to fix it. Hell even how to turn it into a full blown 8000hp push mower. Instead, they curb it for people like us to safe them

Im from Melbourne Australia, and I have never done anything to park my lawnmower or weed whacker for winter . I’ve never drained petrol , engine oil or put any petrol stabiliser in the fuel tank. I’ve never ever had any issues my equipment have always started easy. I’m guessing our fuel in Australia must be of better quality. The fuel is often 1 year old and I don’t have any issues with starting or performance.

@@GarageGear It’s summer over here in Australia at the moment and I’m still using fuel that that I bought last summer. I have a 60 yr old B&S lawnmower yes 60 yr old . and have a Stihl fs45 weed whacker . I find it bizarre that over in the USA you guys run into so many issues if you don’t winterize your equipment. In Melbourne our grass goes dormant for 3 months in winter so we don’t start cutting grass until spring. It might be a combination of the quality of the fuel and that our temperatures rarely drop below 32c Fahrenheit . A typical winter night will sit around 42c.

Another great vid! I do almost the same as you do, but after draining the fuel, I'll add some TrueFuel and let it run on that for a few minutes. Make sure ALL of that crap ethanol gas is out. And just a suggestion........ grab yourself one of those hand siphon pumps (the tube with the squeeze ball in the middle.) Siphon out all of the gas in the tank, and then you only need to run it for a minute or less until it stalls out. 👍

I’ve noticed that the Honda GCV 170 and 200 engines are exclusive to their mowers. They only sell the GCV 160 engines to other mower brands and sometimes the GCV 190 for pressure washers like the one on your Ryobi. I own the HRN VLA model which comes with an electric starter for the engine. I would’ve got the HRX HZA if they were in stock

Hey Dragin! This is a great mower for sure! I’m going to do a full review on it soon! The cut quality is superb! I would also look at an older toro super recycler or the current super recycler with the Honda engine if you’re willing to spend a little more.! The older toro super recyclers are great if you can find one. Look for the ones with the aluminum decks. Not the steel ones. Hope this helps!

I've often wondered, should I change the oil at the beginning of the season, or store it with new oil at the end?
@GarageGear
@GarageGear 2 года назад
I would say it’s best to store it with fresh oil. Don’t want to leave debris sitting in there long. Thanks for watching hewes!

Does oil sitting for a long time do damage to the engine like gas?
@GarageGear
@GarageGear Год назад
After a very long time maybe! Depends on how long it sits and what’s sitting inside that oil. Best to change it once a season! 👍

Do you always put your mower on one side? Or does it not matter considering there is no gas?
@GarageGear
@GarageGear 2 года назад
Great question! I usually tip it in the direction with the oil spout. Then the gas cap is on the high end. I usually don’t like tipping it like this though. I prefer to tip it with the front end up! Thanks for watching!

LOL luv this mower. neighbor envy +100. would luv to modify it with bearing and rubber wheels and a side thrower. but warranty can be a bitch and it looks too good to start butchering in the meantime

what about the spark plug?
@GarageGear
@GarageGear Год назад
Hey Bill, the spark plug should be fine if your engine is running fine. You could clean it if you want to. Shouldn’t be a need to replace it. Thanks for watching.

Will my diaphragm dry up with no gas in the carb. It's rubber isn't it. Asking 4 real. Not being a smart ass. It's hard to tell with writing.
@GarageGear

Hey Matthew, some are rubber while some others are a fabric material. The mower is only sitting for a few months without running. It will be fine. No issues ever on my end. I have done this a countless number of times on mowers and other equipment. Never an issue. Thanks for watching!
