*UPDATE Oct 2022*
I have stopped doing this last year but it has worked great for 10 yrs. Just too much work for no benefit. Now doing this • Winterizing Bravo 3 Me... and this • Winterizing Bravo 3 Me... . And it worked, engine survived.

I run my engine using the rabbit ears and water from the garden hose until engine is at operating temp. Then I place my 5 gallon bucket of antifreeze on the swim platform and allow to gravity feed (has garden hose adapter) into the rabbit ears until it starts to exhaust.

Only problem is that your circulating hot fluid back into the engine. It will not take long to overheat the engine using this method

I monitor temps constantly and shut it off when the Tstat opens about 65 deg C. You are correct, if someone did not monitor the temp, it becomes risky. Been doing this 4 years now. No issues and total peace of mind for bitter winters.

Unrelated to the winterization, but is the clacking sound normal? I have the same drivetrain and I have a similar sounding clacking going on, but I thought it might be bad ujoints, and my boat vibrates at about 1100 rpm. Just curious if it’s supposed to be like that?
