The West Somerset Railway (where I occasionally work as Fireman) has been running the magical ‘Winterlights’ as a return trip from Bishops Lydeard to Crowcombe Heathfield. However, on the night of December 19th heavy rain caused a mud slide and disrupted the track. At first, this seemed to be the end of service until further notice. But with trains only suspended for one day, lineside illuminations were moved and plans were changed so the service could run as far as possible towards Crowcombe Heathfeild, and then reverse to Norton Fitzwarren to near where the line connects to the main line near Taunton before returning to Bishops Lydeard, - this is a section of line rarely seen by passengers, making this a rare opportunity!
