Making sure he’s at least comfortable and his family is taken care of while he’s in there. It’s genius that they focused on what that means for his son in a later season.
Him eating all them burgers at the same time eating chargers, The wire had a fuckton of simbolysim and subtleness thats why its always worth the rewatch
Of all the things that make this show great, I really appreciate that the actors actually eat the food. I know eating scenes are extremely difficult to shoot with continuity issues, doing multiple takes/ eating multiple times and delivering lines with mouth full of food. I have seen shows where the actors just play with the food without bringing it anywhere close to their mouths. The Wire is just awesome.
haha same, really liked James Gandolfini for that too. Dude really stuffed himself in some scenes. Somehow when you start noticing the fiddling with food, it can really ruin a scene, make it feel unnatural
@@pjetrs I started watching The Big Bang Theory, which has some good and bad stuff about it, but the eating scenes are sometimes unbearable when you just notice them fiddleing with their forks
@@pjetrs it really sucks that it definitely didn’t help with his overall health. You can see many scenes in the show where he actually eats, and he fiddles with his fork. There simply was too many good scenes in that show for the poor guy
The way the cop broke the seriousness asking about cole slaw was perfect. It’s the exact contrast that makes this show great. An extremely serious moment that shocks you, followed by a moment of every day life. Reminding us this is a tragedy that happens everyday. People you’ll never know die every day, and people just keep on going ordering cole slaw.
and for bey, murder wasn't all that serious. he was more upset about not getting the potato salad than confessing to and probably actually committing multiple murders
BIRISHPM - it shows how corrupt the system is as people are allowed to claim bodies and cops let them just so they can tick off murders even if that mean the real murderer is not getting charged and even still walking the streets.
“Bey hard as a rock”- Avon I knew he’d take that charge proudly, but adding more ppl to save his whole crew was just amazing imo. Wee Bey was nothing but loyal to Avon. With soft spot for his kid and beautiful fish :)..sociopathic AF, but I still love him😁
That's a pretty fucking forced interpretation you just pulled out of your ass in a pathetic attempt to sound thoughtful, wise and deep; you probably didn't even like the show and you just praise it simply because you're a sheep and that's what you see others do and seems fashionable and trendy.
Detective: " You wanna even dream about straight life for all these bodies, you gotta wake up talking about Avon Barksdale and Stringer Bell " Weebay: " Nah "
She's not a detective. That's Eileen Nathan, a prosecuting attorney for homicides. She will later prosecute the trial at which Omar testifies, and promise him a favor in exchange, which he will later call in through Bunk to get moved to a safer jail in season four, until Bunk can clear him of Marlo's frame job.
Barksdales, at the time, were giving money to Delonda and Namond Brice. Before Brianna Barksdale cut them off that is. Chris Partlow's family including his young daughter were presumably looked after by the now multi-millionaire, out of the game Marlo after he took the life sentence for all of the vacant house murders to protect his friend and one-time boss.
Fucking legendary. Weebay is easily top 3 characters for this moment alone, not to say he wasn’t a great character outside of that. The way he still did his best to do good for namond was nice too
@@user-qx5nk6qg2b weebay is a real nigga he took the charge for murders he didn’t even do for a sandwich. usually its niggas snitching for food but it’s the other way around for weebay
This is probably the single- most 'Gangster' scene in the Wire. The way he eats all those charges and snitching doesn't even cross his mind! He doesn't even break a sweat... great scene with superb acting!!
He is snitching dude is taking the fall for all the hits him and his boys did. Its as gangsta as that one guy who takes all the possesion charges whej Avon gets arrested again
Pit sandwich - classic Baltimore sandwich, is typically a round beef roast charcoal grilled then shaved thin and put on a kiaser roll. Horseradish sauce is a popular condiment on it.
How could you not want a guy like Wee Bey in your crew? Stuck to the code, and was so beyond loyal. I love how they're like "tell 'em what you know....." and he's like "nah." The loyalty meant more to him than anything. Plus, I also love how he's all about that food! In so many of his scenes he's either eating or talking about grub :)
Despite the great jokes in the comments, it's worth pointing out that Bey's confession is a seminal moment in the series. He clears so many bodies for Homicide all at once, including the two witnesses, that he singlehandedly births the Major Crimes Unit as a worthy investment.
This is just wrong. At this point, the detail that worked on the Barksdale organization is getting shut down and anyone who could do something about it is either recovering from getting shot or being dumped somewhere for fucking with the bosses. Sergei admitting to killing the guy who killed all the girls in the can in season 2 is what gets the Major Crimes Unit established.
It’s so cool how even though he may be lying about some murders he’s doing his crew a massive favour by them not getting murder charges in the future and the cops a massive favour by helping clearing bodies
easily one of the coldest, callously portrayed characters on a show full of hard cases. Weebey displayed a menace that was not put on; he embodied that street ethic so naturally, effortlessly. He could convey malice without a whole lotta rah-rah ; he just states his point. So unassuming with the shit: "Druid Hill, behind the reptile house; get back in them weeds you might can find whats left of him.." Cold, calculated. Loyal soldier to the end. For these reasons and more, this scene is ridiculous and Hassan Johnson murdered this shit.
@@prophetascending9021 I guess you don't understand the context of the use of the word soldier here. Wee Bey was literally a "soldier" in the Barksdale Crew.
This scene takes on a new life in Season 4 when you realize that he has a son, Namond, who was also out hustling in the streets and headed down the same path. While Wee-Bey is a soldier here, he ultimately sees it's not worth and wants better for his son. And seeing that his son wasn't built for that life, he also recognized he'd probably end up dead or just messed up.
I think he saw too much of D'Angelo in his own son. Wee-bay was smart enough to figure it was his name that was propping Namond up and having seen first hand how it played out previously he was unwilling for it to happen again.
@@Angels8Harmony That's what makes that scene between Colvin and Wee-bay so powerful. When he turns up and tells him face to face and tells him his son isn't built for those streets. 'I'm talking about Namond here Mr. Bryce.'
I love Wee Bey's "Nah." So casual you'd think they offered him dessert with his dinner instead of the possibility of not getting life in prison. He's a real one.
I think one detail that has gotten overlooked over the years is Wee-Bey’s official name; Roland. Why is this significant? Well if we are going by the chess motif and Wee-Bey is a knight, Roland was not just any knight, but the greatest knight in the Matter of France who was one of the Twelve Paladins of CHARLEMANGE, the 1st Holy Roman Emperor. Oh and he also wielded Durandal the French counterpart to EXCALIBUR and going by other legends was originally a part of a spear wielded by Hector of Troy.
Man when I hear shit like this, it's scary. Blows my mind that these cats were thinking on THIS level. I used to scoff and suggest it was just a coincidence. I think the 'piece' that broke me was being shown how the characters in Bodie's murder scene moved like chess pieces - Bodie a pawn, Chris and Snoop and ole boy who shot him like knights (to your point here as Chris and Bey were shown to be counterparts in the final montage). Years ago I would have said you were reaching here. But I'm convinced that this is correct. Great catch! 🏆
Eric Cunninghan Avon had an army. Dude ran high rise tower projects & low rises /the pit. Marlo had corners & he had cold hearted killers but Avon had soldiers and businesses & business smart Stringer Bell as his right hand & he had Wee-Bay, Slim Charles,Bird,Stinkum plus other shooters and Brother Mouzone on retainer not to mention Cutty before he changed his life. Point is Avon had soldiers and his crew was dismantled by the government and city of Baltimore. Marlo happened to be in the right place at right time as well as ruthless and a sociopath
Chistability except that stringer snitched bird and weebay got life without parole stinkum got killed and Avon serving 5 for the parole violation 25 for a shit ton of other charges he was done hell slim had their only shot at Marlo but the cops got to Avon before he could make the phone call I should also mention brother mozune was after stringer for setting him up along with Omar he left after killing stringer
@@eblazethegifted4747 yea but harder dont mean smarter chris and snoop were disappearing bodies no body no murder pretty smart but slim was out they needed weebey
GDI Commando it actually IS “rap” (as in RAP SHEET) dip shit. Before you open your mouth next time, I suggest you do some simple research. See WRAP is what that burger was WRAPPED in. 🖕🏽
The fact that weebey is eating just chilling talking about his murders while they’re telling him he literally isn’t gonna see the outside of those walls again says it all
I love Wee-Bey’s acting here; it’s very natural. As someone who took a few acting classes years ago, I realize how difficult it is to do eating scenes. One is conscious of the dialogue and trying to portray all of the right emotions and everything, while still taking bites of food and sips of drink at appropriate times. Most beginning actors would have clearly enunciated the word “witnesses, “before taking a sip of Coke. But the actor, Hassan Jones, was so in the moment, that he kind of obscured the word “witnesses,” as he was taking a drink. That’s how people eat and talk in real life.
I dont wanna rain on the parade but, they don’t actually eat food on most sets and he doesn’t actually eat the food here. It cuts away every time he puts something up to his mouth.
@B. Lukee I would assume that the food is always real; I don’t know why it wouldn’t be. But I read online that the actors take bites but then spit the food out into a bag or something. That makes sense, since most of the time they have multiple takes and they would be really full from eating if they swallowed all of their food.
@@logicalblackman8228 I mean the food is real , they just dont actually take a bite. It's mainly because of multiple takes like you said so for continuity reasons along with the fact that the food can be hours old. But you're right in the sense that even pretending to eat and annunciate clearly isnt the easiest thing to do.
@earaza Right, so he takes it like a soldier, not like a man. A man does not take the fall for something he didn't do for someone that wouldn't do the same for him.
A couple days ago I'm on my way to work and it dawn's on me that Bird would have gotten at least a new trial based on Weebay's confession. Folks, this show's been wrapped for almost years and the characters are still living in my head everyday: simply amazing!
I don’t think it would because later on in this episode when Bunk mentions to Jimmy that Weebay confessed to the murder Bird was charged with they both agree that Weebay’s version of how it played out doesn’t match the evidence. Jimmy even says that as Weebay was already getting a life sentence he more than likely was just confessing to try to save Bird.
I bet a majority of people in his situation would be sobbing, or mad, or talking gibberish or making excuses, here you see him treating this thing as all part of the job, he knew what the percs and cons were perfectly when getting into the line of work hes in and perfectly accepted the consequences...its actually inspiring tbh
loyalty and duty are a rare thing in todays society. as a soldier he was fulfilling his duty till the very end. always staying loyal to the barksdale org.
It's also how they broke the back of the American Mafia; cops started threatening life sentences unless they turned rat, many folded. Wee-Bey handled it the old school way.
Wee Bey is literally eating a lot.... as he metaphorically eats a lot of charges. So smart to put his visible pleasure at eating the food against his nonchalance at eating the charges and basically accepting he's going to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Here's something people don't realize. When Bey and Stinkum are in the car plotting to attack another crew - Wee Bey tells Stinkum to drop his gun down a storm drain. But Wey Bey broke his own rule and kept using the same gun... and that's how they're able to link several murders back to HIM.
jdoubleu walks didn't work they already matched bird's gun to gant's murder keep in mind weebay didn't know he couldn't save bird because of the gun so they kept that out of the confession
No, Bird doesn't get out, the police aren't stupid, I mean, they kinda are, but not Bunk, they talk about it in the next scene that they know that Weebey is lying and it won't work.
I love Wee Bey's delivery on one of the most cold-blooded lines of the series. Bunk: "where's the body?". Wee Bey: "in Druid Hill (Zoo), behind the Reptile House... get back behind them weeds you might go find what's left of him."
It’s a man knowing he’s going away forever, so he’s gonna eat whatever he can while he can. Of course he had the special privileges when he was locked up, but that shit wasn’t as fresh as when the po-lice delivered.
I used to find this scene funny but nowadays it’s actually heartbreaking. How jaded does a man’s soul have to be to where going to jail for the rest of your natural life is as casual as a trip to the store?
@@dmcrun3572 That only makes what the OP said even more tragic...and it's true ain't it? Folks who grow up in West Baltimore, Southside Chicago, etc...they don't live in regular time markers like the rest of us. They day to day. That kind of surrounding has to age someone real quick.
Wee bey is a character with a distinctive side to him. A caring father, loving pet owner and a loyal man. His sense of morality is twisted by his upbringing but nevertheless he still has a code. I always liked him throughout the show for his distinctive side
"medium rare, lotta horse raddish" LOL boy knew he wasn't gonna get a good burger for a long time, so he was having his death sentence meal right there.
First season was hard going, second season amazing, the high school season was annoying af and the rest was all political shit which I found tedious, on that basis I wouldn't want to watch the whole thing again
@@JackTheRipper188 The Wire blows The Sopranos out of the Water imo 🌊.The Wire is far more tighter and coherent and even paced then The Sopranos.Even though both shows were full of cold blooded Sociopaths,I found the ones on The Wire were far more relatable and likeable at least to me then anyone on The Sopranos.I absolutely hated Tony Soprano for instance and was happy he got wacked.Tony was just not likeable nor even relatable to me at all except his Panic Attacks,he had very little to no redeeming qualities especially at the End.
