There will never be a show like this again. EVERY SINGLE ACTOR PLAYED THEIR CHARACTER TO THE TEE AND MADE THEM THEIR OWN. This show played out like real life and nothing was unbelievable. That's why this series is a classic regardless of being black-balled by Follywood.

Yes The Wire is my favorite show. Even since I have come across Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, and all the other awesome shows. Nothing matches up to The Wire. The sheer authenticity and genius of the writing are amazing.

The ending of this episode is brilliant, stringer dressed as a businessman and Avon dressed like a thug- symbolized the opposite directions they were moving in
He didn't take much convincing. He didn't try very hard to protect String there, because of things like this. Avon wouldn't get rid of De'Angelo and that put him in real jeopardy. He gave up String, though. And his issue with giving up String was more to do with his code than anything.

Doesn’t come close-lacks the depth and integrity of these. BB has amazing cinematography, some good scenes but the characters and dialogue fall way short.

@@jegbryrmegikke1 Not with Marlo out there. IMO the only way the Barksdale's could've survived is compromise on both sides. Both Stringer and Avon needed to hear each other out more. Stringer should've taken Marlo far more seriously and asked the coop for help w/ muscle to deal with the Marlo problem. Avon should've also listened to Stringer more and tried to insulate himself from gang banging more so that he wouldn't end up in prison again. But then the show wouldn't be good.
In a series that was basically perfect from top to bottom, this one stands out as the best acted and possibly best written scene. The emotion, the fall of two life long brothers , it’s Shakespearean in scope. Sheer brilliance
The wire’s accents arent accurate to be a perfect series, lots of characters don’t talk like baltimore they talk like caritcatures of black people who stereotypical bronx people Also it doesnt have consistency with the seasons

No way on Gods green earth Stringer gets that brave if Avon hadn’t caught a bullet. Shows the difference and power between them. You can see the fear in Stringers face when Avon asks him to leave him up. He could have killed him but instead he was powerless to the wounded leader. A perfect scene.

Stringer is portrayed as someone who has a certain vision he wants and is willing to lie and manipulate and do literally whatever to enact that. And usually when he's lying or manipulating, you can see a moment where he's looking at the person and seeing if his manipulation and lies are taking root. Here, he was trying to talk to Avon and push him to accept Dee's death, and come back into the fold, and accept that war wasn't the right path. And then in that moment where he lets him up, he is rapidly trying to assess if he overplayed his hand by revealing the info- he's trying to see if he messed up his manipulation and caused the Avon connection to be permanently broken.
Stringer is physically speaking way more menacing than Avon. Avon got charisma but he aint all that intimidating, he was just pure savage gangster. Stringer was civilised and still menacing also he just comes off bulky as fuck. Avon was just ripped
They were going in different directions and it showed. This was that “ain’t no going back” moment between them. String showed for real he was worse than he seemed
His British accent kept slipping out... You can tell this was one of his early roles. Nevertheless, Idris was constantly one of the best parts of this show
@@FaithandPurpose828 Marlo never killed anyone tho, just ordered snoop and chris to do it. Cheese ratted out Butchie to snoop and chris which got him killed and did the same to prop Joe. Not to mention he abandoned his son, Randy Wagstaff, who is one of the best characters from season 4.
A lot of people don't seem to get that. Marlo didn't take them. The police didn't either. They did it to themselves. Both were Kings and neither was a soldier like Marlo's crew. That's what undid the Barksdale crew.
But he was wrong about Dee, true he snitched when he was arrested but in season two we see how all he wanted was to get out of the game and live his own life

Stringer was right in theory about turning legit. but he wasn't smart enough for what he was trying to accomplish like what Avon said. Avon only knew the steets and didn't want to do anything else. Both of their shortcomings ended in their demise. String got killed and Avon ended up in prison.

I never realized how much that hurt Avon to hear...he was sad/hurt by that...thus the pacing and literally collapsing down and sitting on the bed...he was at a loss...he really loved D'Angelo...i'm still with team Stringer like Bodie...but damn that shit hurt Avon

Avon stopped at the end because he knew Stringer was right. Avon's pain for the love he had for D is what made him weak and ultimately helped lead to their fall.
Powerful performance by idris elba. It's amazing how this british actor had so many viewers fooled by his ability to fluently speak with an urban american "hood" dialict, he had it down cold.
Brianna convinced him not to testify in court so what he said to the police didn't matter. After the talk with Brianna D was quiet and was just doing his time. I mean dam first you take the man's woman then wack him. Stringer was the devil
What people don't understand is that Avon and String were really like brothers. They were best friends. Avon was more upset when String died than he was when D died. Avon loved String even more than D. They were tight before D was even born. And String could have been the boss as well. But he would never kill Avon or Brianna
Ironically, Stringer cannot control his pride any more than Avon can. Whether it’s killing someone without thinking or telling a violent criminal that you murdered his nephew, the results are self destructive.
String didn’t know when to keep his mouth shut. He was a business man but when it came to the streets. He just didn’t know how the meaning of “Watch what you say cause you might pay”
Stringer walks closer to him so Avon couldn’t reach his gun. With every step he knew wat was about to go down. What stringer didn’t know is would he kill his friend or not. You can see that when Avon had to ask twice to let him up. Stringer himself said take that blood over anything somewhere else but he couldn’t take his own advice, he should have ended Avon right in this scene.
As well written as the Wire was, I think it was a lot more complicated for the writers to anticipate the future action of a thinking Stringer Bell character then a reactionary Avon. At the heart of this series, this was a street corner story. That’s why Stringer had to go. Not to mention idris elba was about to be a breakout actor and paying him moving forward would also be another issue all together. I would have love to see Stringer Bell character progress. Nevertheless, love this series.
Stringer's timing was perfect. McNulty was sniffing around, stirring up dust, Avon was questioning his street creds. There was no better time to unload the burden of guilt he carried. Contrary to what some have said, Stringer's confession is not what had him killed. Avon went back to business as usual after this scene, even lying to his sister to protect Stringer and the business. When you think about it, Killing DeAngelo was the right move, business-wise- I opine. DeAngelo was acting cold towards Avon in prison. DeAngelo flipped then backtracked because of his mother. Business is business. I would have had DeAngelo knocked off too.

Avon offered Brother Mouzone money to squash the issue. The Brother was not biting. That is what killed Stringer. If Avon wanted Stringer killed for what he did to his nephew, he would not have even tried to talk Brother out of doing it. But he did try to talk Brother out of killing Stringer. Those are the facts.
I hated Stringer after he took D'Angelo out, however I had to agree with him here, even though he had ulterior motives for killing D. D, was about to take the entire Barksdale organization down. Yet, what Stringer thought was the Rook's power move on the chessboard, ultimately lead him to becoming the weakest piece in the game, a pawn, when Avon put Omar & Brother Mouzone on him. "The King stay the King".

People don’t want to admit but speaking in terms of the game, D’s death was justified and nepotism is the only reason he was involved in the game to begin with. He was getting high, he was refusing to speak to anyone and he almost rolled over once. If it were anyone else, he woulda been killed a long time ago. Stringer was right on this one even though he said it out of spite because his ego was hurt.

Snitching is one thing you just can’t do in the game, it means you are a traitor, someone that could never be trusted anymore. So for Stringer and everyone else in the game, what Wallace did was wrong. From that perspective, his murder was 100% justified.

For the idiots not in the know, Avon always tried to bully String, and ultimately gotten what he deserved in the end, as well as Stringer did in the end too for what he did to Wallace, even though Wallace was running his chops. Sad anomaly really. Stringer WAS smart but made bad decisions, and Avon was brave, but stupid. Stringer should've gotten out when he said he was.
