#aiaiaiheadphones #wirelessheadphones #musicproduction
In this video, I review the TMA-2 Studio Wireless headphone from AIAIAI.
This is the first chance I’ve had to review a product like this, specifically designed for music producers. How do they work? What’s included? Can you really use wireless headphones in the studio?
Let’s dive in and find out!
After you watch the video, let me know what you think.
Will you be trying them?
Any questions?

Hey man, could you create a video teaching how to connect this to the work platform, I use Cubase for example but I have no idea how to connect a headphone to an audio interface.

Hey Chris, thanks for this review which I missed until you mentioned it in your current video for AIAIAIAIAIAIIA's monitors. Actually a naughty elf told me I may have these headphones on Christmas day and really looking forward to using them for tracking and general editing.

Thanks for the video ! Well I have already broken two headphones because of the wires ... at 150 box each, that's the price of that wireless headphone ... choice is made ! I go wireless no matter if the sound quality is not at the top as I am not a pro and only doing home recording for fun ! I Love wireless technology !!!

Hi Chris I bought the headphones off the strength of your review. I’m really digging these headphones. Only thing is that I have to set the volume correctly. I’m getting a clipping noise when I turn it up to loud on the Big Knob. Thanks I was always looking for a product like this
@mixdownonline
@mixdownonline 2 года назад
Yes, when you record with them, make sure the Headphone volume is at the Max, you'll have to bring down your audio interface's volume that feeds your headphones, and the clipping will be gone.

Chris, how is the isolation? How do they compare to other Around the Ear headphones in terms of sound quality. I've found that Seinnheser HD 280 Pro's are my personal favorites for recording vocals and acoustic due to their excellent isolation. Of course the sound quality and comfort doesn't compare to my Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro's which I use for instruments run direct to the board or that are isolated to a room by themselves (keys, e.guitar, bass, etc) and mixing. I have collected at least 10 other sets of headphones including Audio-Technica and AKGs that don't get used except in band situations (Sony MDRs mostly) but these are intriguing. Particularly for acoustic guitar where the curly cable making noise like tapping a guitar body has ruined a take too many.

I find the isolation good for recording. My favorite recording headphones are the AT M-50, but the wireless side of the TMA-2 makes me choose them over my M-50s in some situations.

@@mixdownonline Thanks Chris. I’m due for an upgrade on the SennHeiser HD280 Pro. Worn them out after many years. As you know they are a relatively inexpensive ($95) and the audio quality is OK, but not close to the same as my monitors or Beyerdynamic DT 990s Pros which sound almost identical except for the headphone/“inside your head” effect. This is problematic. It has the knock on effect that in trying to dial in a sound for microphone recording where you want isolation (e.g. vocals, acoustic guitar, mic’d e.guitar cab) the sound isn’t true to what you will hear out of monitors. Far from optimal. I’ll check out the AT M-50 in my next purchase for sure.

Just to make certain, these microphones can use either their proprietary wireless connection or Bluetooth, right? If so, the latency is 16ms for their wireless and much more for Bluetooth, right? What happens if you record something like a flute, where you hear some of the flute tone by bone conduction and some from the headphones? I would expect a strong phase interference on notes in the flute's normal tonal range. 16ms would be like having the recording microphone 16 feet away.
@mixdownonline
@mixdownonline 2 года назад
It's like recording vocals, like I explained in the video. You can hear a tiny chorus effect depending on how loud your flute is in the headphones.

@@mixdownonline , thanks Chris! Glad to hear that a pro thinks it's OK. Myself, I'll stick with wired headphones.

Chris, I consider you to be the most knowledge person on RU-vid when it comes to "Cubase". I know this question I am asking has nothing to do with this video. But, I have upgraded to 12 pro from 11.5 pro and I see my main drive "C drive" is almost maxed out. 20% remaining. Prior to upgrade, I had 80% remaining. All content libraries have been installed to a separate SSD drive, The only thing on my main drive "C" is my OP system "Windows 10" and Cubase 12, 11.5, 10.0 and Cubase le. So my question is, Can I uninstall the earlier versions of Cubase, without loss of "Data" and, should I uninstall these previous versions? Thank you Chris.
@mixdownonline
@mixdownonline 2 года назад
Hey David, I doubt Cubase 12 took 60% more space on your C Drive. The whole thing will take around 1Gb without the content of course. Yes, you can un-install previous versions without loosing Data, but on my side, I always keep the previous version installed on top of the new one, and uninstall older ones

Wow, nice Chris, but sadly, its a Nay Nay Nay for the AIAIAI for me dude - I see the trade off with the modular self assembly and the Bluetooth/Transmitter availability, but at £300, I think I'll live with an ultra long female to male 1/4" jack cable [old school stylee] - so many cheaper wireless workarounds available methinks. and for that price I'd expect to be able to mix with them, or am I asking too much : /

@LondonSteveLee

You do not describe the wireless technology very well. It's obviously not Bluetooth (latency is too good) so is it digital or analogue? IE are you introducing a different (sounding) DAC into your workflow? Does the transmitter give you a nice full-bandwidth analogue radio signal or is it another form of digital transmission - perhaps WiFi?

In my personal experience, bluetooth headphones are not good for music production at all, there’s too much latency and it makes my vocals be off beat.
