Video showing how I made up a temporary welder extension cord using SO cable, 50 amp electrical outlet and some basic wiring. Tapped into an existing 30 Amp breaker in a fuse panel outside that was not being used. As you can see in the video this worked out well for me. Keep in mind I am not a licensed electrician, if you are uncomfortable performing this type of work on your own, by all means pay a professional. Your safety is your responsibility. Confirming that this is a 3 wire 220v or 230v or 240v 50 amp cord.
Keep in mind that the length of the wire will have an effect on what gauge you can use. The longer the wire, the thicker the wire needs to be for a given amperage draw.
This is something that the average homeowner or shop owner can do at home electrical work on their own. But again, safety is the key, and your comfort level. Also this type of work should never be rushed, take your time, think through what your doing before you start tapping into existing electrical boxes, fuse panels, breaker panels
