Josh joined me for day 2 of prefishing for the ‪@KayakAdventureSeries‬ tournament on the Wisconsin River. We found several workable patterns to catch river smallmouth: skipping the ‪@ZManFishingProducts‬ Palmetto BugZ into shady wood, crankbaits on rip rap and natural rock, and in Josh's case working an oversize soft jerk bait of his own design towards shoreline overhanging grass.

Those look like the baby fish that come out of the mama fish in the state of Florida.

If you have big enough plug knockers get a chalk line and tie it on that. Keep the line tangle free and you can crank it back in when you need too

No, I had one. That water was muddy. I tried it. A nice one ate it. I went and bought more.

i hate that river , its real fast and shallow , but if you find them , its a blast

I just couldn’t get any bigs. Five days of fishing and no 18 plus inch fish. Some of that is on me for not fishing big, or seeing more of the river. Part of it is that the Susquehanna spoils me. But that river further upstream did me right in short order!

@@TheLittleStuff I love rivers but the Wisconsin River humbled me this year. next time when you are around WI /Illinois hit me up I show you few rivers I like . especially in fall . The double fluke is a killer

That prototype fluke bait kinda reminds me of the old line thru Mr Whiggly from river to sea sold designed by Larry dahlburg. Don’t think they sell it anymore was hoping they’d bring it out in a smaller bass version kinda like they did the whopper plopper.

I told Josh that it was his version of the Banjo Minnow, and that he should call it the “Fiddle Fish” 😂. He got some big bites with it!

You know Jeff if I had one bait to choose, it would be a jig , it works no matter what, If I am getting no takes on any bait and I switch to a jig, it always seems to produce. Great stuff Jeff thanks for sharing 👍

Bigs eat jigs. Unfortunately, I didn’t break 18 inches on this fishery until after the event, about a 3 hour drive north of where “in bounds” was. If you ever make it to the Wisconsin River, fish the upper reaches.
