Wisconsin TFD 14hp Startup

Here's another Wisconsin startup! This is the engine from the old Hobart GW-222 welder I had on here a few years back. Well, we finally got to putting it back together and fired it up. It ran a bit rough at first but it smoothed out real nice after. The smoke is also starting to decrease as it runs. It's a one crank engine once it warms up though. This Wisconsin will be getting used on a future homemade 4wd tractor project.

Dang that thing sounds nice! Do the pistons go up and down at the same time or was that the model TJD?

Sounds like a Briggs, but I've heard Wisconsin Robin engines are way better. Please correct me if needed.
@5Tractorguy
@5Tractorguy 4 года назад
You got it Emanuel... Wisconsin/Robin are more of an industrial engine VS. the Briggs. Granted Briggs were used in industrial applications, but the way Wisconsins are built internally makes them more rugged.

When you start an hand crank engine, you keep cranking till it starts. Not just one pull up fella. Just letting you know young one. Good day too.
@maeflower5108
@maeflower5108 3 года назад
Are these small engines safe enough to do that with? For tractors I was taught to just do a quick half turn up with your thumb outside the handle because you were less likely to get hurt if it kicked than if you were spinning it the whole way around. I don't know much about this stuff so I'm curious
@victoryfirst2878

@@maeflower5108 All the small engines that I started in my days I have never had any injury. The larger ones I would do as you stated just for safety sake. Always go with your instant and you will be fine. Peace. VF

@@maeflower5108 I got a story for you fella. Years ago at a rough and tumble event was a fire truck which I do not remember the brand. This fellow was hand cranking this huge engine with no luck. He was a moose or a pit bull physical body type. I remembered my neighbor telling me that a number of engine manufactures made a distributor that had a window which let you use your index finger to snap the points to start the engine. The trick is to make sure the engine is just past top dead center and you open the window and just open the points and a spark will do the rest. This guy who was a gorilla was so mad he got in my face and wonted to know what I did and I just told him I got lucky. Needless to say I just about became a pretzel if it was not for this older man. He then told me what I did in my ear so the gorilla did not hear. That was a humbling moment with hand crank engines. Just a memory from my past adventure tomato. VF
