Well you missed the point quite blatantly. The “perfect” society is to keep the people there. People give their greatest wish to him, in hope of it coming true. Because they think they can’t do it on their own. It’s not just any Wish. But from the very best part of us. The people do not know their memory is literally erased of their wish. And the King tells them he does what’s fair. When really he’s quite dense, picks favorites, and leaves most under the bus. And everyone is dependent entirely on him. It’s really not that hard to figure it out.

You know what the worst thing is? The fact that she destroyed his leadership because "he can't be in charge of granting wishes" (just because he said no to her grandpa's wish) only to be crowned wish granter herself. I swear Asha has to be the absolute worst character anyone's ever made or seen.

I have yet to watch the movie, but... it really took her going into the interview to realize that one wish per month granted with all those people living there meant that some (most) wishes were not being granted? I kinda like the idea that she is the reason that the later villains got their wishes (almost) granted, causing the conflicts and horrors. Though it seems to leave unanswered where the book came from. There COULD be a lesson in the story if she had realized how easy it was to topple the king and his working regime and his measured approach, and how hard it would be to rebuild and deal with all the contradicting wishes and aspirations without him, how some wishes were entirely selfish and harmful to others. How her naivety without listening and learning first, but rushing head in head first and excitedly bumbling along the way was not helpful, no matter how well-meant (and pushed the King over the ledge, apparently). Maybe if the movie had ended with a montage of her and her own apprentices and next generations had to constantly intervene to send chosen heroes on their right path to undo the resulting chaos.... Are we sure that adorable little star is one of the good guys? I've said it before, but the original "When you wish upon a star" lyrics said: "Fate is kind She brings *to those who love* The sweet fulfillment of Their secret longing" In that the titular "wish" was one born out of love and selflessness. And when it wasn't, it was about self-improvement "Fate steps in and sees you through" - not necessarily granting your the wish directly, but giving you strength and endurance, HOPE to work yourself to the finish line (to what you are meant to become anyway-?). "If *your heart* is in your dream no request is too extreme". Love and hope. The original wish was not meant to be the kind of "I want to be the best" or anything that would be harmful to others... If this movie was trying to play on that, then I think Disney forgot its original meaning themselves... If the wishes in the movie had been the kind referred to in the song, then, yes, the story and rebellion would make sense - but it seems the King made a point about how at least some of these wishes were not.

Radical idea: Instead of a movie about a King who turns evil after an eon long reign because one of his subjects questioned him... They should have made a movie about the King being right, but the apprentice not getting it, thinking the King was too strict in his judgement and not grasping the notion of a wish needing to be born out of love and a good heart, (maybe the King gets sick or kidnapped and the apprentice has to step in) going around and granting random wishes they thought sounded nice and fun and useful (in the moment) and being oblivious to the consequences. They crash and burn when the chaos builds up and then make some friends on the way, and learn the real meaning of selflessness and help and hope and love, y'know. They do manage to clean up their mess on their own (by the power of compromise?). ...and you know what? That could be a modern homage to Fantasia's The Sorcerer's Apprentice, too. And it could still be the "prequel" to all Disney movies if the one lesson the apprentice learns on their way, one the King had failed to consider before, was to bring that kind of magic to other realms as well (in good measure) to help behind the curtains to defeat (mislead) villains and support the pure-hearted's wishes.

Well, he specifically wanted to inspire others with his music. To be fair, this is a moment everyone loses hope. But Asha remembers we are all made of stars. She basically gave the people the push in the right direction, they needed in that moment. Just like Star gave her a push in the right direction.

He was absolutely correct, the guy literally did nothing wrong or evil through the entire movie. I'm puzzled and a little disturbed they threw him in the dungeons like he did something horrible when... he did nothing at all. What in the world happened in that movie

He's an amazing selfless king, the story is incredibly disturbing.

@@COSun25Oh really well if I know Disney if they see something that would make them lots of money I'm pretty sure that would make a Woody spin-off movie or a Battlesaurs spin-off movie and who knows if Lightyear gets a sequel maybe the ending will be about Buzz traveling so far back in time he ends up in the Age of Cowboys and a ship crash lands on Earth where he meets a red-headed Cowboy girl⭐

Btw, this move has been pretty controversial regarding the missrepresentation of Spain and its culture (or the Iberian peninsula)

Take down a king that’s not even freaking evil but supposedly a villain, basically every female is colored and every male is white, songs and characters are mediocre period. I hate how blind people are

The King was willing to teach Asha MAGIC! If he was truly selfish, he would not be having apprentice audition. And Asha only met the King for 5 minutes and she has the gall to ask for a selfish favor, then throws a tantrum when the King refused her. The entire movie, she acts like the King forces the people to give their wish to him. But no, they were all voluntarily moved there, made a living there, enjoy the security and protection there, and chose to partake in the monthly lottery for a chance to have their wish granted. Their choices. The King was just doing his job as a protector. The wish granting is just extra benefit. If Asha doesn’t like it, go away. The people should have already know that most wishes given to the King don’t come true, since they have eyes. They can count the number of people, then count the number of wishes already been granted, and do the math. The entire movie, I felt bad for the King because Asha increasingly pushes him to use forbidden magic to protect his kingdom. Think about it, she didn’t learn anything, didn’t have any character growth, didn’t change anything. She just made a wish, and it came true. Not even a classic lesson of “be careful what you wish for.”

Selfless? She got close to the king just to ask him for a favor and when he said no she overthrew his kingdom and tortured him. Literally every bad thing that happens is because of her and her selfishness.

People travel to Rosas. The first song of the movie literally explains that people travel to Rosas via boat. Magnifico built Rosas and not sure how old he is but probably only out 3 generations at most or natural born Rosasians
