What is the wild hunt? Where does it originate? Who are the members? All these questions were running through my mind when I played the witcher series, but after reading the books I learned a lot more about their origins and history. So today I decided to make a video detailing the wild hunt's history, the wild hunt's origins and key member's of the wild hunt. Be sure to like for more of these types of videos and subscribe for more!

The wild hunt at first seemed to me like an enemy i couldnt defeat. i thought that my sword couldnt do anything against them. the wild hunt was so well executed in playing the role of the villain, it actually intimidated you, which is quite rare.

The Wild Hunt is based on actual Germanic/European folk belief as Wodens Wild Hunt, Ride of Asgard, Wodens Army and several other names. The game has much Nordic folklore (creatures and such) and Geralt even gets called a Nordling a few times throughout Withcher 3. Sleipnir was Odins war horse and in the Poetic Edda it was written Sleipnir had 8 legs. So much of the Wild Hunt lore in game is based on actual beliefs. This is one reason I love the Witcher 3 game.

Witcher lore. Elves roam the realm. Human got jealous and took their magic. The human got greedy and kept the magic for themselves and killed most of the elves. Some made babies with the elves. The elves escaped to another realm where the Wild Hunt comes from. Destiny+ half elf blood+ witchers+ conjuring shape the story.

Nefarious Cookie umm no that’s completely wrong. The elves were one race called the aen undod they split into two groups. The aen Elle moved to the world of the unicorns before humans took over the continent and before the conjunction so no humans around. The aen Elle took over the world of the unicorns and made the humans of that world slaves. They never split due to human expansion only their free will

@@dorelbaz8939 I felt like going from Caranthir to Eredin felt so *eh* . The intro and presentation of all of them felt amazing, Imelrith and Caranthirs' fights being pure adrenaline fueled fun. Once you start fighting Eredin, his combat skills seem more flashy than deadly and precise. He gets such build up as this literal *King* and you'd expect him to be badass and practically better than a witcher, given all the representation in the way of the dread and fear they exude. The areas we fought in with him were epic, just him, himself just felt boring after you learn his really basic move-set. Imelrith and Caranthir were both royal assbeaters for me on death march but Eredin felt way to easy, with his blatantly obvious little power-ups and the ease of using them against him. Hell, Imelrith and Caranthir nearly killed Geralt, yet Eredin just gets beat like a school boy bitch, falls for a killing move which, if he's as badass and intelligent as you'd think, I'd expect him not to fall for. Perhaps, however, thats the whole point. Eredin is the pretender child where as his two generals were the *real* leaders. Caranthir and Imelrith seem like they could curbstomp Eredin and take the throne for either of themselves.

@@unholymalformationoffisto2131 I actually think they could. Just as you said, Imlerith (My personal favorite BTW) and Caranthir were the real generals, the real leaders. Eredin was the king wannabe who just managed to actually get the throne.

Technically he was talking in Irish (Gaelic). Dearg is red in Irish and he pronounced that perfectly. Actually a massive amount of the Irish language is used in The Witcher. Tír na Lía translates directly to "Land of the doctors". There are islands off the west coast of Ireland called the Scellige islands and Árd means top or high. Like 'high king' would be 'Árd ríon'. The elves say 'ceadmille' as a welcome. In Ireland we say 'céad míle fáilte' which mean 'a hundred thousand welcomes'. I'm sure there are more examples but I love that our little language is being used in one of the greatest book to game adaptions ever. Edit: I just remembered Dol Blathanna. Dol means going so it's probably irrelevant but bláthanna means flowers so that a direct translation from Elvish to Irish. Kinda cool...

This is a good video. You're not wrong about the Red Riders at all, but a few details about Elven history are skewed. The Elves were originally the Aen Undod, and they inhabited an entirely different world. Not the Aen Seidh or Aen Elle worlds. At some point, their home world faced destruction, and they sought out a new world. This was all before the Conjunction of Spheres, when the Aen Undod had the power to travel freely between worlds. Eventually, they found the world of the Aen Seidh. They lived there for centuries, then the Conjunction happened, they lost the power to travel between worlds, and things were crazy because of all the monsters and humans. So some of the Aen Undod used the power of the Tower of The Gull to find a new world to live in. That world is what we now know as the World of the Aen Elle, which was originally a human world. The World of the Aen Elle also has Unicorns, who have the power to travel freely between worlds. The Aen Elle subjugated them, and forcibly used their power for themselves. Eventually, the Unicorns freed themselves, and they and the Aen Elle have been at war ever since. The Elves who did not go through the portal created by the Tower of the Gull (those who stayed behind) became the Aen Seidh. For centuries the two tribes actually had contact with each other, but as time went on, and the Aen Seidh fell into ruin, the Aen Elle gave up on them. Centuries later, when the Aen Elle were able to travel between worlds again to a small degree, they came across the world of the Aen Seidh, which had been overtaken by humans, and so, became a prime target for the Red Riders. That's a super condensed version of events, but that's basically what happened.

The Wild Hunt plays an interesting role in The Witcher II, since it's only ever really mentioned in flashbacks and during the transitions between segments of the game. The game gives us a lot more information about what happened with Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri, but the Hunt itself plays absolutely no part in the game itself. In The Witcher 1, the King of the Wild Hunt can be fought twice and he makes several appearances in the background, but during that game the Wild Hunt was portrayed more as what people perceived it to be: A force of spectral warriors and wraiths who took people and served as an omen of evil. Them being the vanguard of an entire Elven civilization bent on finding a way to escape their doomed world was on nobody's mind at the time.

if you read into European/nordic mythology you will notice that most of the lore concepts are stolen/based upon old mythology. (Lord of the rings, Dungeons and dragons, warcraft lore, elder scrolls lore, all based their lore on already excisting mythology). Great video! When I first started play, not that long ago. I didn't know really anything about the world it's in, other than I heard that it was a great game, I had some extra money and there was even a sale on Steam, I started up the game and was a bit surprised about the beginning being in the house taking bath, but I figured out that something would happened that would mean you'll have to go out in the world. I wasn't prepared for the world to freeze and that ship sailing in the sky like that!

Love how this game weaves in other mythologies into its lore. For instance, the power ship(who’s name in not even going to try with) is named after the ship that signaled ragnarok. It was commanded by Loki and made from the toenails of the dead. Great video btw! Probably gonna pick up the Witcher because of your videos

Great explanation for someone like me who wants to play Witcher 3, but has no idea what the story previously was. Even seeing the stories of parts 1 and 2 left so many questions unanswered, like who tf was wild hunt, why does he have amnesia and all lol. Keep forgetting this whole series has a wider more deep book series!
@user-uo2xn2fn7g
@user-uo2xn2fn7g 4 года назад
The Wild Hunt tale has Scandinavian or probably German origin , and Odin himself is leading the galloping riders, one of Odin's names is the Glad of War so you probably starting to get the idea of what Wild Hunt is.

Best video to explain it all, i would stop at 14:00 if you haven't finished the game for spoilers. I think this would make a great show, but they would have to show the wild hunt's motives fully for it to work, good stuff

Of all the enemies of the games, the Wild Hunt was my second favorite, until I found out what the Hunt was I really felt that everything was screwed up, the only enemies that managed to be more unique and threatening were the Mass Effect Reapers that managed apply a feeling of power and unknown.

GrandMaster Witcher George, from what I know about mythology the Germanic/Norse myths have the figure Wodin/Odin go on a Wild Hunt as he is the All-Father, but ALSO the war God that decides the victor. Now before I start to rant and go off-track I thought you'd find this interesting as this God's horse literally had six legs and with the initial sign of the end times: Ragnarok started immediately with Fimbulwinter that is known as 'great winter' as it supposedly ends all life on earth as it is a three long winters as the snow comes from every or all directions. I can't help but find so many of the these motifs and themes in the Witcher franchise. Though I'm still finding more everyday and learning about mythologies & folktales I've never heard about. Anyways, I wanted to comment to Thank you so much for providing this great content. I've been a BIG fan of Witcher since the first game and immediately had to start reading the books. Have a good day, and keep up the amazing work you do you glorious GrandMaster!

I had no idea the Hunt was so antique. That explains their power and relentless strength. To them the other races on The Witcher's world are like apes I'd suppose. Including the actual Elves that live there.

I would love a design your own witcher in the next game ngl, yeah geralt is an amazing character but how much more sucked in would you be if you created a character yourself and chose what kind of Witcher you wanted to be? However, this is based on books so it may be difficult to do something like that

Aen Elle is essentially pronounced as one would modern Gaelic words. Rued/Ruad is "red" and sounds like a Scot saying "red", a bit stretched in the vowel but recogniseable.. Dhu can signify "black" as well and I've noticed it a few times. I have only passing knowledge I'm sure there's a ton more.

Any witcher school gear based on your style of play and aerondite silver sword which you get from lady of the lake in Blood and Wine DLC, this silver sword is literally OP if you know how to dodge hits well as it gets charged continuously with every hit u land which increases damage and levels with you as u level up.

The wild hunt is based on the god odin.the six leged horse is a reference to Odin's horse. Santa is on the wild hunt this is why he has 8 riehndeer. Also the headless horsemen is an extension of the myth
