With all the controversy surrounding a certain Olympian recently its time to set the record straight

We’ve all heard the news recently, about a certain Olympian who’s pulled out of the olympics following the release of footage that shows her ‘training’ methods.
So I want to clear the air here and spend some time educating on the PROPER use of a riding/training whip/crop.
This is a repost of a video I’d done earlier in the year but I found it as fitting of a time as ever for this to make a reappearance considering everything that’s been going around lately.
Just remember, not all riders and trainers who use whips & crops are bad, just like not all who use them are good.

Love these informative and teaching videos! The explanations on this subject really clears the air as far as why the training crop is an excellent tool for training. I myself just to see the story about the Olympian who pulled out of Paris at the very last moment. On a side note, I really appreciate you Keeping The REAL in your REELS and also for including bloopers and such that really add to the authenticity of your videos and subject matter! Rudnik has come so far and it's because you gave him the chance he needed! MOO From COW-lumbus, Oh 👋

Holding it so it sticks out behind you can enforce the "personal space" when you are leading a horse that gets pushy. Because they run into the stick, or you turn and they get tapped.

The only time we use the crop fast is to chase flys, but it never touches our sweetheart. Lol Our girl feels about the whip like Rudnik does, isn't it to have fun with? Love this BTW

There's another horse trainer I follow who uses a whip/crop in a similar manner. It's a tool. And like any tool, it can be mis-used. And we can never assume. But watching you and watching the other guy I watch? I can SEE that you know and respect the animals you're working with. That's a whole other ballgame.

Yes, agree completely, whips aren't bad in themselves. I was always taught that the whip (any whip) is to reinforce the aids. Like spurs they're to finesse the cues the rider/trainer is giving, especially if the horse isn't paying attention or is being deliberately disobedient. Horses and ponies are usually much bigger/stronger than we are, and sometimes they ignore us and/or try to boss us. Which can end in disaster. Sensible and sensitive crop or whip use is completely normal. Lol at the vid, you and your gorgeous boy make me laugh. He's such a honey, and you can see he's not afraid of you or the whip. Amazing progress from the poor scared fella you first adopted. He does seem to enjoy film making. ❤

I have used and still own one of those whips. I used it to train my dogs. Shock and horror? No. I use a mobility scooter and have multiple dogs. My youngest tended to walk to far in front of the scooter because he wanted to see everything yesterday so was at risk of having his foot run over and broken. So i used to hold the whip so that if he moved to close to the scooter he would run into the whip and not get hurt. This was around the time where dogs were being stolen all the time (a few years back) and if anyone was stupid enough to think that as a disabled woman i would be too weak to protect my dogs they would get a sharp reminder to behave. I would never use it on any animal to cause pain. Humans, well that's a different matter lol... Humans have the choice in their behaviour. Animals don't.

Beautiful explanation - it makes your reach longer. It is a tool. Any tool can be used incorrectly and become a weapon - should builders never use hammers because you *could* hurt a person with it? No, that would be ridiculous. Same with crops/whips... like you said, your hand can become a weapon! What next, cut off everyone's hands??

Very good explanation on what the whip is for, and how to use it. Using one to que a horse is also not pulling on their head (as some do) all the time causing steering issues . 👍👍👍

Most riders use foot pressure ques to move the hind and front legs and to move forward. A skilled rider can even ride a horse without a lead/reign by lightly tapping the ques. The horse understands foot pressure ques and is not confused. A dressage whip isn't necessary to navigate a horse. You may not abuse your horse but others may tend to use the whip to discipline them. There is a lot of controversy using whips.

*most riders is still not all riders. Just because some use it abusively does not make it wrong for those who use them correctly

@@rudniktheroan This - any tool can be misused, purposely or not, depending who's using it and their intentions in any particular moment. Love the way you explain the crop's proper use, too. Rudnik looks so calm and relaxed, here, even when you accidentally bopped him he hardly reacted to it.
@nmf6620

@rudniktheroan Training a horse properly is an important tool for the well-being of Rudnik. You may feel it's appropriate to use a whip to ride him but his future may not end well should he have a different owner. Due to financial issues people have had to sell their horses they loved. Not only will you have difficulty finding owners who would want to use a whip but imagine finding an owner for Rudnik who uses one improperly. Life is unpredictable. Nothing is guaranteed but training Rudnik properly will give him a better prospect of people who would want him without a whip.

Some people retired from society, missing intended career or family loss, things fly around more, unwanted suggestions by unseen land energy. Ihad to have direct hand arm contact for pets. Negative energy can surround sticks. I don't like idea of carbon fiber cues or plastic ones...just as non-equestrian who worked with very independent dogs and cats at home...my use of anything rod like was melt down for American dingo. You have to take each animal separately and don't assume very wilderness spirits can be desensitized to a cue. So if "stick" being carried in a far distance, maybe caution is good to have by animals with different inherited ancestor experiences. More aware of threatening strange caretakers or horse thieves 😶

Have you seen Steve Young Horsemanship , on youtube , he ties a little square red flag to the end of a telescopic stick the same size as a whip , its very Visual and also makes a sound , the Horse doesn't need to be touched by it , it works Amazingly well .

He also uses a 'boingy stick' which has a firmer feel than the flag but it's designed not to hurt. He doesn't use it to hurt. He is very upset about that certain Olympian and her training methods

@rudniktheroan
@rudniktheroan Месяц назад
I don’t need to justify anything. I’m educating on the proper use of an important training tool. There’s nothing to justify when they’re used correctly. I’m also not saying everyone needs to use them

The problem is that plenty of people use it to abuse. Because people out there abuse with it then the innocent folk that don't abuse with it will constantly be looked at with doubt when they carry one. I don't trust anyone talking about using it as a tool, cause I've seen too many whip a horse hard with one on a break in control of themselves...impulsive folk
@rudniktheroan
@rudniktheroan Месяц назад
That is 100% fair and valid! I simply ask people to not apply those same preconceived beliefs to our videos because I promise/swear I would NEVER use it like that on any of my animals! But I 100% support your opinion because I still feel that way when seeing others use them as well - until they show and prove that they don’t misuse them. ♥️

This is something I really don't like about watching some cross country riders these days because they are really hitting their horses and I really don't why a horse would do what you want when they get that punishment.
