To give an Analogy - Dating a drop dead beautiful chick/dude is literally skin deep (hardware) and in the long run means nothing if her/his personality and intelligence doesnt jive with yours (software). This is why I would still choose a Samsung fold over a OnePlus or Google fold.

I recently purchased a OnePlus Open (and also a Google Pixel Fold) renewed from Amazon to tinker with to see how the hardware and software compares to my Z Fold 5 and I would still pick the Fold 6 or even the Fold 5 over whats currently out. Yes I would say the Hardware on the OnePlus Open is better but the software is lacking compared to Samsung. At the end of the day if the Software isnt as good or better than what you're currently rockin with you're making a mistake, hardware certainly isnt the most important factor.

Different perspective: I'm looking into buy a fold for the first time. Been looking at all the different folds and at first I was leaning towards the Pixel fold and then discovered the OnePlus open and was disappointed with the Z Fold 5. But after constantly looking at them for the last month I ultimately have set my mind on the fold 6 as my first fold. It seems like most people complain from upgrading their fold to the new Samsung fold and I can understand why they are underwhelmed with the upgrades however for a first time fold buyer who is looking for that tablet in your pocket for the multitasking and software I can deny that Samsung just seems to make the most sense. For me the fold is more about productivity not the aesthetic (while this is nice too). I wish I saw more perspectives online of people looking to go to a fold for the first time and why however this just may have been lacking for me since I am late to the foldable phone community

How do you figure the software isn’t as good on the OnePlus Open? It has the best multitasking software on any foldable. OnePlus Open has significantly better cameras, bigger battery and much faster charging, and it’s cheaper. And, it has a much more usable outer display and a much less significant crease on the inner display.

Over the past four years, I have been a loyal user of the Samsung Z Fold series. However, I am concerned that Samsung is not innovating enough with its latest releases. The Z Fold 6 appears to offer only minor tweaks compared to its predecessors, and the price increase is not justified. I considered switching to the OnePlus Open for my next phone, but after reviewing the software reviews, I am hesitant. The software issues reported by users give me pause, and I am concerned that the OnePlus Open may not be a reliable choice. As a result, I have decided to keep my current Z Fold 5 for another year. I hope that Samsung will make significant improvements to the Z Fold 7, or that OnePlus will address the software issues with the Open 2. Until then, I will continue to use my Z Fold 5.

Samsung user since the Galaxy S2 here, currently on the Fold4. I don't think Samsung are being "lazy". They're strategically drip feeding improvements to their userbase so people have reason to upgrade (learned this from apple). If they gave us the wider outerscreen and thin form-factor in 1 go (like the Honor Magic V2) then no one would upgrade every year or 2. See how many people are still using the S20/S21 with no issues at all, even linus is still on the Note 9 😂. At the same time they're betting on their software (Dex, Galaxy AI), ecosystem lock-in, and S Pen to keep from losing too many customers to other phone makers. I use Good lock too much so it'll be really hard to move off samsung. Ex. I have a fully custom keyboard layout made with "keys cafe" with undo/redo/copy/cut/paste/del and arrow keys + more. Going to another keyboard would be a big downgrade. I'm in Dubai so we get more options than you guys. I'm waiting to see the Honor Magic v3, Pixel Fold 4, and Mi Mix 4, I'm sure one of these is going to be too good to skip (Vivo Fold X3 Pro is super good currently but I don't trust the brand much).

@ALionlikeMane
@ALionlikeMane Месяц назад
@@Ronnet funny you'd mention multitasking because that's one of the big areas where I definitely prefer the Z Fold software. I do think the Open's switching animations look very nice, and I could do that swipe down the middle gesture all day... but I simply can't multitask as efficiently with the canvas style that OnePlus has implemented. With two apps side-by-side things are fine, but when I throw a third app into the mix, then I have to dance with which ones are actively displayed - so I tend to call canvas multitasking "canvas multi-taskswitching" On Z Fold, I can comfortably have a 3D art reference app like poseit, music, and my drawing app all displayed at the same time. To get all three usable onscreen at the same time on Open, it has to be in that zoomed out view where there's either severe pillarboxing or severe letterboxing. Outside of that, the three app canvas multitasking means that in every scenario, there's screen real estate lost to gray borders and the edge of a app I can't get the most of... if I have to tap app edges to bring them back into view, I'd use the same amount of energy as if I swipe the bottom of the screen to just task-switch. And I'd rather just do that to maximize how much of the screen is used. Not knocking anyone who enjoys the OnePlus canvas, but Z Fold's the one that lets me tap one pair icon and instantly open three apps without thick borders everywhere.
@Zer0.-_
@Zer0.-_ Месяц назад
@@ALionlikeManeI have wondered how about this for a while. From what I have gathered, it seems like most people like to use the unfolded phone just for video and media consumption, not necessarily multitasking with two to three apps at the same time. @ALionlikeMane
@ALionlikeMane Месяц назад
@@Zer0.-_ I'm only 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 an exception there. Like I do use the cover display for those purposes, but one app on a 23.1:9 aspect ratio to me is just waaaaay more vertical information than I could possibly need, so I almost always put that extra height to work with a second app. My usual pair is RU-vid up top split to take up ~20% of the screen and Instagram, 𝕏 or Facebook taking up the bottom ~80%. That's about as much multitasking as I can comfortably do on the Z Fold cover display.

Something to think about: Chinese companies have always had the potential for their government to have access to their customers, input into their production (who and where), and, most importantly, spy on their users via backend software. I am NOT saying that One Plus has this issue as of now, but who's to say it isn't happening without their knowledge or within other aspects of their supply chain, production, software, design, transportation department, etc.? Side note: their swimmers were just caught doping in the Olympic swim trials. The swimmers claim they had no knowledge of it, and I believe them. It seems that the Chinese government is doping them without their consent. Therefore, the Chinese government comes across as untrustworthy. As for Samsung, a Korean company, they are allies with the USA, and their government shares similar concerns about China as ours does. Consequently, they (China) cannot be trusted. It's advisable not to give these Chinese companies more of your money and information. I am not someone who believes in conspiracy theories, and I don't spend my time dwelling on left wing or right wing agendas. I consider myself a realistic thinker, and I believe there must be some truth to the reports of Chinese spying. Take the DJI ban, for example - it is in effect for a reason.

Currently have a OnePlus Open as my everyday carry and a Z Fold 4 as a backup. I am looking to see if the Z fold 6 has an actual usable front screen and a much lesser crease. If not, they lose once again, and I will be looking at Google and the OnePlus 2 when it comes out next year. Btw. I was one of many that had issues with Samsung customer service and will in the future take separate insurance out vs Samsung.

Little change means that if you weren't interested in what the Open offers over the Z before, then there definitely isn't a reason to choose the Open instead now. In my eyes, the Fold wins in display because its outer display is well suited for one-handed use (in my experience - I know some people hold their phone differently and have a hard time reaching though). Also, its inner display both has a kinda-portrait and a kinda-landscape orientation, while the Open is just a square - not my preference. And again, in my eyes the Fold wins in storage - I only actually use around a hundred gigs, so even if the free storage upgrade wasn't borderline constant the faster storage is objectively better for my use case. And onto the camera setup - I could never go back from an under-display inner camera, and the camera bump is an obnoxious size on the Open, so once again the Fold caters more to what I personally want in a phone. Z Fold gets the job done, 90% of the time lighting is good enough for the camera quality not to matter, so cameras that are more convenient when not in use are my preference. I charge my phone overnight at low wattage because that's better for battery longevity, so 67w on the Open would make literally no difference for me. Price is also not really a fair comparison here, because you're never gonna pay MSRP for a fold. I saw the Fold 5 for as low as $1299 without trade in, and I heard someone in Canada say they spent $1050 CAD on a new Fold 5 and Watch 6 Classic without trade in. Also the S Pen is something I use multiple times a week. I could live without it, but I do use it. Not to mention the Samsung software features I _couldn't_ live without. Now, all that considered, is the Z Fold a better phone? No, not objectively. But better for me? Yes.

Wireless charging and the software are the big Ls here. OxygenOS for the OPO is great, but it's not gonna get updates as frequently nor for as long as anything Samsung puts out. Probably best waiting for Z Fold 5 discounts for this interested in the form factor. Was hoping by the ZF6, sammy would've learned that people want a much wider, stockier build for foldables, but alas.

@JordanHandy93

@@PaulWagner1 Warning, below is long: TL;DR. Staying with OnePlus for now. Has its quirks compared to Samsung, but not all bad, and Samsung hasn't wowed me enough again just yet to leave. I'll probably skip this and wait for OnePlus' next offering. Based on specs, it doesn't really make sense for me to go back to Samsung right now. I agree with Shane, though, Samsung's version of Android is superior IMO, but that doesn't mean that OnePlus' version is bad, it just has some quirks that I've learned to live with. In case you're interested. Here are some things that just came to my mind as I'm using the Open: Assuming stock launcher 1. Can't resize widgets placed on home screen 2. Can't create widget stacks 3. No search option if you want to search through your long list of widgets a lot of things I took for granted as native Android features were just features that Samsung (and probably other OEMs) built in their own skins 4. FIDO2 / Web Authn Security keys can't seem to be stored on the Open (in my experience, anyway). You try to start the process, Open wants your bio auth to confirm the key, then it fails. Tried this with multiple providers including Google, 1Password, Github, Auth0, etc. + a few more that I can't think of right now unless I happen across them again. And lastly, the Support experience. I've opened about 5 tickets with OnePlus support asking about the above quirks and others,trying to figure out if this is a bug and a planned fix is coming, OR, this is just par for the course. Of the 5 tickets, 4/5 times, the support person had no idea what I was talking about. They always tried to push me off and contact the other "vendor" to solve the issue, as if another vendor was the cuase of the issue with their products. In my opinion, the frontline team they present to solve user issues isn't nearly as technically skilled as they need to be. In contrast, Samsung's reps were always willing to talk with me, and even if they didn't necessarily have a solve, at least they understood the problem statement, which is a better first step. I originally left Samsung because their changes from 4 to 5 (and now 6) seem iterative at best and nothing groundbreaking, and at the time , the wider outer display of the Open attracted me, and gave me a chance to try and OEM I never previously had. One final positive for OnePlus. They seem to run a lot of cool promotions on their stuff. Within this year of owning the Open, I've saved a bunch of money on buying their Buds 3, Watch 2, 2 extra of their "red cables", and a free duffel bag. lol. Not bad.

Honestly, the Fold 6 does not hold a candle to the Honor Magic V3 or the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, or Vivo X Fold 3 Pro. All three run laps around the Fold 6 and Samsung needs to innovate to keep up with the Chinese foldables that are releasing global versions of their devices. Compare the specs of those 3 devices with the Fold 6 before you buy another Samsung foldable.

Do you think the Pixel Fold 2 will be better than the Z Fold 6??? I wish the Z Fold 6 Thin was being released in the US as this would 100% be my purchase as a huge selling point for me is a bigger front screen as I just simply don't like how small the front screen is even with the small increase in size. Another reason I want the Samsung is simply because of software. OnePlus Open is an option for me as well but I don't think the software is nearly as good as Samsung's or Google's. I'm really hoping the Pixel Fold 2 will impresses me as the design leaks look great, but Im hoping for some nice software and hardware upgrades as that's kinda of where the Pixel Fold falls off but more so in the Hardware department. As of right now im crossing my fingers for some good things to come out of the Pixel Fold 2
