The Netherlands is a realy small country , yet it gives us not only this two lady's but also Floor Jansen , Simone Simons and Charlotte Wessels , as a Dutchie I am so proud of them ! Anneke was the ladysinger of The Gathering for years and it is realy worth while to react to a song called Travel from this band , it's and ode to Mozart written by Anneke herself, a real masterpiece 😍 !
May I recommend an oldie but a goodie from Within Temptation? They did a metal version of Kate Bush “Running up the Hill” that would blow you away. Cheers!

The voices of Sharon den Adel (Dutch Metal Ice Queen) and Anneke van Giersbergen (Ginger Dutch Metal God Mother) blend terrificly together. They should do this more, what do you think ? Somewhere is the song which Anneke performed before in her repertoire.

Thanks for the reaction :) Anneke is an absolute master of harmonies. I first encountered her in Ayreon back in the day, and slowly delved into her other work (of which there are many). The way she can harmonize with herself and create such distinct layers of sound is incredible. The single "Hurricane" from her latest solo album has 3 consistent layers, plus other phrase layering. And her "01010101...." layering in Age of Shadows (studio version) is a level of epic only matched by Mike Mills in "The Day that the World breaks Down".

Great performance on this live version. I know exactly what you are talking about the song sounding familiar. The one song that comes to mind (and it's not like it's a "rip-off") is Clannad's I Will Find You (from Last of the Mohicans).
Sharon's was the first symphonic metal voice I ever heard. Close to 2 years ago by now someone gave me a playlist with a bunch of symphonic metal on it. Most of it was heavier than what I usually liked but some of it I did like so when I got home I started searching RU-vid for symphonic metal bands, and "Faster" from Within Temptation popped up: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jDJpf2mQ0w4.html ...I liked it right away, but when her layered vocals exploded on the chorus, I was hooked for life. Plus it turns out THAT song was from 11 years ago now. Someone in a comment of that video mentioned Nightwish and I popped that into RU-vid's search next. Life hasn't been the same since:.

Although this is a great duet by two great female vocalists, I'd like to share this comment from a professional recording engineer that I picked up from another reaction channel: "This is a great example of bad vs good microphone technique and also correct vs incorrect choice of microphone capsules. I don't know a lot about WT, but Sharon has pretty bad mic technique during this performance. She is leaning into that microphone so hard it craps out on several occasions. Also for some reason she seems to have a Beta 57 capsule on her mic which definitely does not help things along in that regard, it's not a capsule constructed for vocalists as it barely has any wind screen to speak of. That is why her dynamics is all over the place and rides way on top the rest of the mix. At the same time the FOH engineer didn't seem to have the balls and/or brains to compress or even low cut her mic enough to compensate for some of the problems. And if he would have turned her down she would bob up and down in the mix and be hard to hear clearly which is a big no no for the main vox channel. A lead vocalist never gets on stage with a hand held Beta 57 unless someone screwed up really bad. That FOH guy literally buried himself, and ended up with one uncontrollable lead vocalist. Anneke on the other hand has brilliant mic technique which allows her to self compress beautifully and not overpower the microphone, that in combination with the correct capsule for the job (Beta 58) ends up being an easy channel even for this engineer to lay onto the mix. While Sharon has more of that familiar karaoke sound which will never blend easily into any mix.You can really hear the difference when Anneke first comes in, she melts into the mix but is still clear and powerful despite being a couple of dB's low."
I don't know what idiot wrote the original comment but I do know there's nothing wrong with using the microphone she was using. I've listened to this performance many times on the bluray with uncompressed audio and she sounds perfect. My guess the person who said that is just another Sharon den Adel hater talking crap, theres a bunch of them making ridiculous comments about everything she does on these reaction videos.
I am a fan of this band for ages already. I saw them live at M'era Luna, shot them there and met Sharon backstage but just while passing and saying "Hi". I really like at this song, how Sharon and Anneke are switching their "roles/parts". For some suggestions of Within Temptation you can have a look at THE List. There you'll find also "Delain" with Charlotte Wessels, another great Dutch singer beside Floor, Sharon, Simone and Anneke.

There is another very good singer from The Netherlands: Sharon Kovacs. Her beautiful voice is so unique, sounds like between Billy Holiday and Amy Winehouse. Love Anneke...mostly because of her work with Devin Townsend, which is how I was introduced to her work. Please check out “Hyperdrive!” from the album Addicted! by Devin Townsend Project, which features her heavily!
The Neterlands do not air much metal but this concert was quite fast after releaseon national TV. I did not know the band before gut bought the complte concert package directly and still enjoy it. Also their live concerts without an orchestra and choir are very good. Sharon also features in a belgian show 'De liefde voor muziek' Similar to 'Beste zangers'.
WT was the band that originally got me into symphonic metal. I dont listen to them much anymore but i still really enjoy their sound. if you want another duet with sharon, try "paradise (what about us)" ft tarja (ex nightwish), i prefer the studio version but there are decent live versions too. for just sharon, though, i recommend "the howling" (not sure if there are good live vids but the studio version is fantastic). glad you guys enjoyed this song. and btw, i dont think yall are crazy for recognizing it because the first time i heard it way back, i also thoight it sounded familiar. i think its just thta kind of song.
Ahhhh, Within Temptation. Love them. Their song Mother Earth from this same concert, is a great listen. But the whole of Black Symphony is a fantastic listen/watch.

Aww ... seemed you guys were kinda soothed. :) This is not quite a representative performance for the band Within Temptation, nor for featuring vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen although the latter does have a hugely broad discography spanning many genres and decades. Within Temptation followed in the trails laid bare by The Gathering, Anneke's breakthrough band who paved the way for many female fronted metal bands in the 90s, inspiring many who followed, a.o. Floor and Tuomas, Sharon and Simone. Within Temptation set course for a more gothic symphonic repertoire, lead by self-taught Sharon den Adel. They produced quite a number of epic tracks that became hits paving the way for bands like Nightwish and Epica. You'll probably find a few fitting follow-up performances to check in the comments for them. Meanwhile, The Gathering with Anneke developed their originally doomy/gothic metal sound to become more and more 'Floydy' and melancholic,, even trippy, throughout the following decades. The Gathering and Anneke left behind a massive trail of prog and metal creations with Anneke (after leaving The Gathering in 2007) collaborating with numerous top-notch vocalists and musicians in the genre. Most notable are Devin Townsend, Danny Cavanagh and Arjen (Ayreon) Anthony Lucassen. I already bombed your mailbox with plenty of material some months ago to explore. Anneke is a guarantee for many more goosebumps and chills. Enjoy the rest of this journey!
