But you need around 150k crowns to unlock the whole game. If you get 100 each day, that's 1500 days worth. I don't think anybody is going to spend five years in this game earning crowns
IKR, these people are so delusional lol. How can you expect someone to be watching videos 24/7 in order to unlock zones ONE BY ONE in this fucking game. No thanks lol.
10/10 in my opinion the beginning combat does get boring if he played it for a bit longer he would have gotten to the good part of it I played wizard101 recently and overall still a wonderful game I do not care about graphics that just means esier to run and less space used on my computer
Wizard101 is "free to play." Yea, right. The style requires you to spend money to progress to the new worlds, otherwise you're basically stuck. It's almost like WoW's play for free until level 20 thing. Yea, it's free to play, but only for HALF of the first world. Everything else you basically need a subscription or constantly paying money for the cash shop currency. Fun game though, if you wanna pay a subscription.
lol I'm addicted to wow but I made my first death wizard in 2010 and I have so many memories of that game that it takes up 1/5 of my life. the nostalgia watching this video made my heart pound. miss those times
@Must Rästas Ice has some unique defensive options, especially at lower levels. In end-game pvp it's less of a tank and more of a fuller-bodied AoE DPS/Utility but it still works well enough as a tank against AI, even in the end game. It's power just doesn't come from offense like storm or fire, it's more of a tank that focuses on special effects, debuffs, and so on. For example, Ice is the only school I know of that has a low-cost stun card that just stuns. Most of the time if a class gets a stun its an add-on effect after an attack from a very powerful card, ice has a card at higher levels that you can just cast for 1 or 2 pips that can stun an entire group of enemies for about a round or two. In pvp that is an amazing defensive option, it throws people off their rhythm entirely. Personally I usually go for a minor in Divination when making a Thaumaturge. The Storm spells (highest base dmg in the game) help make up for my lack of damage despite their lower chance of success, and my ice spells are (for lack of a better word) cool.
Have you seen Khrysalis and Polaris? The jagged edges are rounded out and the models and detail are much more interesting, while maintaining the same charm that the game always had.
Bro I remember this one world (forgot the name, been ages since I played this) and it had sharks for AI and shit, but damn that world had ALOT OF detail.
"I feel like I've played enough to have formed an opinion." No, not really. The first part of the game is repetitive, sure, but this is exactly why you didn't play long enough. With Wizard101, first impressions aren't exactly the telling point of whether the game is good or not. Whether this is a review or just a first impression, you don't get the full game experience until later. When you're just starting out in the game, things are more focused on teaching you the basics. The entire first 10-13 levels are focused on helping you get good.
+ClashWithCash What, you say that like darkmoor is an old dungeon xD don't you have to be lvl 100 to get there and the lvl cap is only 120 right now? lol
I have SO MUCH nostalgia for this. I played it until I discovered WoW and I miss this game so much. This video literally made me cry! This game is so good as you progress through. It pains me to not play it anymore... I would if it wasn't still sub-based like WoW.
+mrsasakio Most p2p game in existence, avoid at all costs. They have no limit on how many Dragonballs you can buy each month IIRC, there are whole guilds where members each spend $1k USD a month on Dragonballs to upgrade all of their gear to ungodly levels, then one shot everyone in PVP. It is impossible to beat these guilds legitly without spending thousands on Dragonballs yourself.
Thats the reason i stopped playing it. My dad never let me pay for games when i was little so that was one of the saddest moments of my life when i found out i have to pay to play.
some of my very first internet friends were made through this game :) it's great for someone who hasn't played/may be intimidated by complex MMOs. easy to play and easy to follow. at higher levels it becomes a lot more strategy. newer areas ( > lv50 i'd say) are prettier, more detailed, and the textures are nicer. while i can't see myself going back anytime soon, w101 was a large part of my life as a teenager and i have a lot of good memories from it
OMG the Childhood memories of playing this late at night on the weekends with my friends from school! I think I'm gonna make my friend Download it again buy a month long membership and play it with me again. xD Any Storm Wizards out there!?
I remember starting this game in 2009 when the lvl cap was 50. I made so many memories and stopped playing in 2015. The friends I made in this game growing up were amazing and I'm still friends with many of them. This game started mmo's for me. I miss playing this game honestly but it's so dead now. I remember so many realms would be totally full. Now it's hard to find a lot of people. One thing about realms was I remember realm wuu in the dye shop was always a fun time.
When I used to play that game I named every character Morgan Freeman...and when people asked for help I would say "Sure, sonny". Good times until the game was basically P2P...I only had one quest to do and that quest required me to fork them over some money (Which I did and regret). Not worth it,get's boring after awhile.
Peon, one thing with this mmo. I've played it a lot and im not gonna judge your opinion, but you're wrong about one thing: Its not free to play. Its kinda like wow. If you played a bit longer, you would get to a point where new zones have to be unlocked either by buying them, meaning you "own" them for eternity, or by becoming a subscriber to the game and unlocking everything for a set amount of time. Its a really big con in my opinion, and you should maybe edit this video to let other know if you read this. Keep making awesome videos :)
OMG yes he played w101 !! I still have this game on my computer and still play it from time to time for friends and just for a bit of memory's ! It's what got me into wow and I have been playing his game since their 'vanilla' version (Month after release / 7ish years) this was my first online game (unless if you count attempting to type as a small 3 year old on EQ) TYSM THIS VIDEO MADE MY DAY!
Man, this brings back memories. I use to play this before the first expansion of the game! It was so much fun and it tested my mind at the same time. The only problem I had was that you had to sink money to complete the first world of the game. I did it anyways and I was glad I did. I stopped playing because of lack of money but I am thinking of returning now with a fresh character.
I'm not sure if you've heard this already, but mana is normally gathered in non-combat areas such as The Commons or Olde Town. EVERY main area like the first one you encounter in each world (ie. Grizzleheim) has mana. Later on, gear also gives you more mana.
I am honestly surprised that there are still people playing this game. I remember playing it when I was younger and it sparked my interest in the MMO genre. Great video by the way!
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS GAME!!! This game was seriously my childhood and the reason I got into pc gaming.... Not joking. This brought back so many memories and that game is actually really fun when you are young. I was I fire wizard too!
All the youtube drama going on at the moment really makes me appreciate lazypeon. Just good old plain fun, original harmless content. I love watching your shit dude :)
I have too say the art style of this game reminded me as well from the PS1 games man i miss them so much Crash, SPyro even Final Fantasy VII. Kepp on with the good work Peon we are an amazing youtuber.
Peon, are you still playing WoW ? I know that you are not going to do many videos about it because you've done a lot and you don't think the game is interesting but i was just curious.
I remember vanilla W101, when being level 50 with the Malistaire robe for your school, with your school pet made you cool. Oh, and having one of those weapons with cool effects from Dragonspyre, stitched onto (transmogged) the level 50 crowns weapon. Also having a dragon mount from the crowns shop. I guess you could say I'm a W101 veteran :P. Looking back at W101 always fills me with nostalgia :)
Hello Peon, don't know if you're going to read this, but I just want to thank you. I'm having some difficult times and your videos really make my day and I can laugh at least a bit. Thank you and keep up the good work man. Cheers from Slovakia
I just wanted to let you know, ive been playing this game for a while and got up to level 86 and as far as i see it the game gets way more violent as you progress, ive started seeing some very brutal and or violent comments made from characters, but that's to be expected because i guess they don't think that the kids will make it that far. Also it is good to note that it isn't entirely free you will need to play for certain areas and there is a money system known as crowns in which you can buy them and then use them for special items! Thank you for this video, i overall think its a great game, also if you haven't yet try playing minecraft :)
Wizard101 had a graphics rehaul so thats awesome. Also after lvl 30 the game gets tougher and tougher with cheating bosses that encourage teamwork and knowing what spells are best to use. After lvl 50, the game starts aiming towards teen/adults because of the change of difficulty and the need to obtain the best gears and spell set ups. Fun game. 9/10
As unlikely as it may seem, this game offered (past tense) some of the most fun and strategic PvP I've ever enjoyed in a video game to date. This is coming from a hardcore gamer who's been through countless FPS games (CoD, CS, thousands of hours into Halo, etc.), strategy games (Starcraft, XCOM, etc.), and various MMOs (too damn many T_T). From what I've heard however, the PvP was ruined by some new crit' system they implemented :/ It's a real shame, because I remember spending all my time as a little kid in the arena and testing out new decks/tactics xD Y'know, maybe it's just nostalgia talking haha... Fuck, I might try this game out again actually.
you should man. I truly believe that once the new world comes out kingisle will fix this and make it lit again. "The will of fire still burns"(Naruto :P)
I loved this game to death when I was younger. I really want them to do a remake with modern graphics and a better business model. But of course, that will never happen.
I spent maybe $180 on wizard101, and I LOVED the game, it was honestly fun. I don’t regret any money spent and the social aspect and strategic is a fond memory.
This was my first mmo! It gets a bit more interesting later on, but I agree the combat can be a bit of a snoozer. Also, the street crossing killed me more times than I care to admit, especially in the higher level zones lol. Didn't know they added fishing tho...
Obviously since this is a first impressions you didn't get very far, but I did play this game an ungodly amount with some of my friends when we were younger, and it does get extremely in depth with the combat, and trying to make the perfect deck. It's pretty interesting honestly
Wizard101 was the first game that I (now 65) played together with my daughter (12 years old at the time) and my girlfriend almost every weekend and we all had a lot of fun ... today we play Guild Wars 2 together and we are very successful as a team
Wow this was probably my first MMO, I think I played it back in 2009. I remember getting excited about all the shiny spells, and the cool effects. This game was probably what got me into gaming! I finished the game as a lv 50 firemage, and I saved some of the cool things I had like the Katana wands that I really liked! I might try out the new content in this game again, if I have the time!
Omg Wizard101??? Now THAT is a game i haven't played in a looooong while. I remember i quit because of the super annoying RNG which basically determined whether you were going to loose or not.
I'd like to request you looking into "Champions Online". It is quite old as well and even though I don't play it much anymore, I still like to check in to it every now and then for some superhero fun. Maybe if someone like you gives it a bump, it'll be a little more popular again.
im gonna be 100% honest. When i was maybe 8-12 I played this game back before I played wow. This game really was amazing and fun. Great child hood memories
Holy shi i commented a year ago and said redo this vid, only to stumble upon it again and be amazed at how this 7yr old video leads with “I’m playing an “old”mmo” How time flies
You are completely correct. The first few areas, even the first few worlds are really not the most enjoyable. In my opinion, the game really picks up in Celestia (6th world) and in Avalon (7th world). All worlds after those are quite exciting the first time around but rather agonizing when trying to level up another character. The school you choose also has a large bearing on your experience. If you choose life, you will not have an aoe until level 58 (all my Theurgists out there KNOW the struggle), but schools like fire and storm have an abundance of aoe spells. Each school has its own little difference in what it's spells do, like how myth has the only spell in game that stuns for two rounds, how a great amount of fire spells leave a damage over time effect, or how some storm spells remove postive charms (blades). You just have to find what best suits you.
