RIFT First Impressions "Is It Worth Playing?"

Rift is one or the best F2P game out there. Bag space can be acquired through REXes, which is something similar to Wow Token except you get credits and you spend them as you like. Gifting also is an option, but it requires some trust from the gifter as there is no system to allow a safe trade. You have Classes > Cleric, Rogue, Warrior and Mage. Each class has several souls, each one specializing in a role, whether it's healer, dps (single target or aoe) and tank. Additional Souls can be bought from the Store. Basically from the start as F2P player you can play Cleric (healer tank dps) Rogue (tank dps support) Mage (healer support dps) for free. This mean you have one toon who can be a healer or tank or dps just changing specs. No need to role other toons The amount of customization is huge ingame, unless you use FOTM builds for raiding, which is also huge. 1-50 is the vainilla experience. 50-60 is the Storm Legion expansion. 60-65 is the Nightmare expansion. The game has enormous things to do if you're a completionist. Side note > there are no costumes in the traditional sense. Each item in the world has an appearance, once you unlock it, it's unlocked for your character and you can use it from the costumes tab. This mean you just need to unlock it once and you can use it forever. Despite your review being interesting, you've missed an increible amount of things that could interest people. Artifacts, Mounts (you can get several of them for free during events), Costumes (incredible customization and unlocking potential), REXes (buying Credits through other playes without spending a dime), Profressions, Crafting Rifts (more of an endgame) Raiding (10 man, 20 man), Conquests (PvP 3 factions vs 3 factions), Achievements (you can get free mounts, pets) Minions (a system where you have minions at your service that you can send on missions to gather materials and other things) Dimensions (huge roleplay factor, creating your own dimension, extremely customizable)

I go back to Rift once in a while just for the housing, it's amazing :) I've spent hours and hours just building stuff in my housing dimensions.

Rift really starts being a lot of fun when you hit level 50, you get chronicles (1 or 2 player dungeons) and a good deal more of the game opens up.

I'd honestly love to just see you delve more into TERA honestly. Its so fun, id love to see more vids of it from you Peon. As for Rift, yeah I've not gotten to lvl 30 even for a reason.

I just wish that WoW had housing. And while we are on it, why not add a "Builder" profession, a profession where you can build anything for furniture to walls and windows. Just a big area where you can build your own house and customize it to your liking.

A quick explanation I posted as a reply, but which everyone should read before commenting about his quips about religion: Please do keep in mind that he is from the UK -- a country with dramatically less religiosity than the U.S. (and those who are religious are more often than not, very moderate & casual about it). So, culturally, poking fun at religion isn't nearly as rage-inducing there when compared to the US. People don't view it as 'untouchable' or 'sacred' -- making fun of religion is just like making fun of politics. It's all fair game. In the U.S., we're a lot more sensitive, because we're an anomaly among the advanced, western nations where religion is concerned. Interestingly, looking at a global religiosity index, we would fit in much more comfortably with Africa than we do with Western and Northern Europe (both when taking into consideration the rate of religiosity & the intensity of that religiosity). Keeping that sort of thing in mind is important, because when you run into people from places like the UK, Denmark, Sweden, etc. they likely don't have the same sort of cautious view of religion, because it's not such a powerhouse where they live. They are more free to poke fun without crossing any particular social mores.

The first 10-15 levels is not a good impression of what this game is, as someone who plays RIFT on a daily basis let me tell you about the CURRENT expansion. 1) there are massive world events that were supposed to give out t1 raid weapons on day one that could be sold on the auction house. These events caused every-single shard server to crash anytime one was run. But the achievements for them are still there. 2) RIFT will crash, bug out, have issues on any machine, from a grubby economy pc to a several thousand pound/dollar gaming rig. It will have graphical bugs and crash. Your pc does not matter. The engine is trying to do things it was never intended to do. 3) Rift is massively buggy and routinely goes through "oop's were sorry we broke your game" moments on a weekly-monthly basis, without fail. At one point, to lower lag, we had to every NPC in the capital city, turned into sheep. (Just to see if it helps - said the Devs) 4) RIFT IS FREE! But also if you have a thousand pounds/dollars you can buy the current top tier raid gear, if you like. 5) there are weird & flashy/shiney events based on RNG to make you feel like you have to pay money to get boxes to unlock for the chance @ new and fantastic mounts. This also goes for cosmetics, souls/spec's. Best current example, newest class released, the primalist WILL ONLY SET YOU BACK $75. Only nearly a hundred dollars... no worries you can drop that on a class based around souls that already exist in the game and have been simply re-named to excuse the idea of selling a class that has, oooh glowy animal faces on it's head! The skinny, rift is a great game if your in an awesome community of gamers, have patiences and create your own goals. If your here for a solid mmo-endgame experience. Your going to have a really bad fucking time of it. If your here to play a free game with bitter hatred for titles that allow other people to simply buy what you take time to earn? Your going to have a bad time. Play rift, be skeptical, find a good community, stay with that community. Be jovial & lighthearted about the dozens of ways the game could be handled better or fuck up less.

there's something I should mention. you can vendor your junk directly to the in-game cash shop from anywhere in the world, so bag slots are pretty irrelevant

+TheLazyPeon This game gets MUCH better at higher levels. Past 50, the zones look incredible, monsters have great animations and mechanics, and PvP get's a lot more interesting. Rift really has a ton to offer if you give it a chance.

If you’re thinking of trying RIFT, then remember it came out in 2011 so there was no GW2 or ESO at the time. They continue to put out FREE content. There is also a customizable home area, but you get the environment and then you place items you get from in the game around inside the environment. I love most the class system since you can choose 3 class trees to mix-up abilities out of like 8 or more choices. You also aren’t locked in on those 3

Apparently this game runs on single core processing, which is why it will run like ass for most people

I played Rift a long time ago and the most fun thing was the PVP I played a warrior like you, but I had a custom set of souls for PVP. It was so much fun to dash to people, cripple then and then kick them off of a ledge to defend a point. It looked like you had a bad experience but thanks for trying out the game it let me rekindle old memories.

Only thing it doesn't seem like you noticed is the shard hopping mechanics. It doesn't matter which server you pick because you can play on any one you want whenever you want.

as someone who has played rift since it first came out (i evan pre ordered it) and i find it a epic game. the whole rift idea of a random rift open up is really good. fist time me and my friends found a rift we didnt know what was going on. we were all running around not knowing what to do. the gameplay is very wow like but it just feels better to me. the roll system is epic and you can be anything you want. (yes evan a mage that tanks by casting spells. my mage is) the begining area's and armor is quite low rez i agree but when you get past level 50 area's the rez for the zones and armor become epic.the wordrobe is one of the best things in the game. the instant adventure and the dungions are fun and tough (like old school wow). all in all i have to say i think the game is epic and i will alwase have fun playing it. for those of you who like oldschool wow this is a game like it. (yes i know my spelling is bad but hopfully people understand.)

It funny when he talks about this game being similar to Wow. I only say that because I started out with Ever Quest. When I first played WoW I said "So far this game is very similar to Ever Quest." I guess most of us compare new mmorpg we play with the first mmorpg we played.

The game looked so stale as a warrior. I played a Mage back when rift came out and it was way too fun, so many specs of any type, dps, summoners, heales and whatever you wanted. Fire mages, lightning mages, ice mages , whatever mages.

for future reference, it will help to explain game mechanics, rather than only how amazing it is that the dwarf can jump high and that you like to compare the game to wow.

the intrepid adventure is a lot more fun. throws you into a raid that scales you to 65 . One of the coolest features is being able to have as many specs as you want.

Being a cheap cheap bastard, I have never played WoW. I also find that this game has a few things I wish other MMOs would steal (if you know any, do tell). *Artifacts as a reward for searching every nook & cranny of the world & climing the highest mountains. *Complete & total endless freedom on customizing what you wear. Don't even need dyes anymore. *Minions that gather resources for you. *The ability to have multiple houses, & your minions bring you decorations. *I've played about 60 MMOs & a good chunk of the landscapes are pretty unique, especially Dusken. *Urbex appeal: Explore abandoned houses. *They don't help you fight, but if you want 50 cosmetic pets, by gawd you can have them. Cheap & easy to get in Auction, as are minions. *You want to level really fast? Instant Adventures. Bored of questing? World invasions & rifts. *Regretting or bored with your class? You can change it, or switch between 3. *No fall damage. Gotta say though...The holiday events pretty much blow. They also tend to be extremely glitched. I kinda wish Trion would steal from one of their own games & add Jump+ stats. In Trove, if you had enough Jump boosting gear, you were basically flying.

Rift had a lot of hype when it first came out. Supposed to be a WoW killer.

If wow did this, you would have level 10's trying to run LFR, which I think a level 1 could run anyway, because the game is so dumbed down... Gear wouldn't scale correctly, and things would be somewhat retarded.

If, for whatever reason, I couldn't play WoW, then I would definitely play Rift. I remember playing it last year with a friend who couldn't play WoW, and we had fun. It's definitely the next best thing.

That was very interesting. I started Rift. I found it to be really fun. It is a lot like WOW. I think it is what some people call a WOW clone. I wonder what it's like to be a warrior. I haven't played one on Rift first hand. When I needed a mount, it helped to buy a yarnasaur at the capital city. They cost between two and three platinum. I bought two: the forest yarnasaur and the striped yarnasaur. 3:16 LMBO Oddly enough tentacles don't really bother me.

you can actually get a mount early on if you save up the money for it, My character is only like level 15 and I was able to save enough money to buy a mount. you can also go fishing and catch a bunch of fish and then sell them to a merchant and that gives you a good amount of money, or at least it adds up pretty quick.

4.0 will be released in a few weeks. You'll have to pay for it (free until level 65, so). I think this game deserves to be played. Especially if you find a friendly guild. Raids and generally group activities require tanks, heals, assists, and, last, dps. Your soul tree has to be adapted to the role you're playing, different roles make you more polyvalent. Soul packs are sold in the shop (credits & real money or very long platinium farm for REX), allowing you to unlock few specs & role unavailable otherwise. These are very good main and auxiliary souls, better than free souls alone.

just a fact (since I play Archage) that Archage isn't Made by Trionworld, Archage is made by XLGAMES. Trionworlds is just a publisher and have nothing over the making of Archage.

also, when it says banish the guffins (penguins) there is a certain button that shows up to banish them, you don't actually kill them. I made the same mistake at first.

I'm sure this has already been said but Trion didn't make ArcheAge. They just localized it for US and EU players. ArcheAge was made by XL Games.

I played Rift for about four years. The high-level raids are really cool. I've been playing WoW for about three months now (very casually, unlike my Rift days). The two games are similar. I do miss the instant large-group zone-wide activities, including the rifts themselves as well as bosses who appear every so often and take 50-100 people to kill. TBH, I think Rift graphics are better than WoW, but there are things about WoW that are really excellent. Most people in Rift play on the Defiant side. The Guardians are kind of pious and superior, lol. To each his own, ofc.

Habe mit Metin2, WarRock und Minecraft mehr als 3 Jahre verspielt. ( am Stück - insgesamt mehr als 1100 Tage ). Wenn man darüber nachdenkt, dass ich erst 20 bin, ist das ein recht großer Teil von meinem Leben. Vor allem weil ich noch ein paar Spiele mehr als nur diese gespielt habe.

Been playing Rift since launch. Game has changed allot, but still has some of the hardest/challenging Raiding in any MMO, makes WoW Raiding look like childs play. Also the PvP gets allot better. Also the north american servers tend to have higher pops from what I gather. Have to say though that this game is over if my favorites because of the large amount of customization in the soul trees, plus the many different souls. Should be noted to that every class can now perform every role of the Trinity System.

I can honestly say having played Rift for 3 years, I've never once experienced an issue with the frame rate dropping while having the map open like you did. I wonder what was causing that :/

Actually, in Rift, you can play any class as any race.

Believe me its way better now u got new dlc good for a FREE game from 2011 and last but not least its a lot more fun once you progress im a rogue and its really the best way to go.

As someone who played Rift for 3 years I would struggle to recommend Rift for new players. Gearing at end game is super slow as not only are most competent guilds very exclusive but because all classes can play every role the loot tables are stupidly large.

Map never killed my frames,and in all the years i played the game (as it was pay to play and a bit of free to play ) i never erver had one single crash of the game..its the best running stablest game ive ever played

When you signed up for Warfront, down the window there was a choice between PvP and Warfront, so i think that warfront is something like Isle of Conquest in WoW or something.

I played RIFT when it was new and back then I loved it and thought it was very fun. I leveled a mage to the then max of 50, but did not participate in end game raiding nor pvp content. About a year ago, I revisited the game, due to boredom with the other game(s) I had been playing and tried out the FTP version of the game. As a RPer, I found the story fun, except for one thing... Every expansion makes the previous content literally outdated, just like in WoW. I had not even made max level yet when the firs xpac was released, back in the day, and one of the two major bad guy NPC's that is literally the focus of your story in the Defiant newbie story line was killed off... For some people this would be a deal breaker. It nearly was for me. Oh and the Guardian and Defiant story lines for the newbie quests take place in different timelines, which makes the game sorta weird, and sorta cool at the same time. They also counter each other, meaning things you do on one faction are noticed by those on the other side, story wise. Both factions believe "They are right." for their own reasons and believe the other faction is evil for their own reasons, as well. As TLP said, the layout, controls, ect are very similar to WoW, so if you've played WoW you can jump into Rift and not have to worry about how things work. Something I really enjoyed about RIFT are the rifts themselves as well as the random, zone wide events that just pop up. You have to be wary while questing, though. More than once have I had a rift literally open up on my head when I was questing and ended up having to RUN, RUN AWAY! to avoid getting spanked by a ton of mobs. Events spring up at random as well, with an NPC alerting you by shouting (they have voice over too, IIRC.) FTP: As far as FTP goes, RIFT is the only FTP w/ sub option game I have played that has IMHO been worth it to play as an FTP. The bag thing aside, all your content is as unrestricted as FTP as it is as a full subscriber. Customization in RIFT is pretty decent. Character appearance is moderately customize able, not the best I've seen, but certainly not the worst, by a long shot. There are PLENTY of cosmetic armors on the cash shop and dyes as well. think that boring brown studded armor would look amazing, dyed black? Highlight it and highlight the black dye for a preview to find out! There are mounts availble on the cash shop as well, everything from plain horses, to armored horses, to cats, and an assortment of others. Class customization bloody rocks, I've not played a game with more. Each archetype class (warrior, mage, cleric, rogue) gets something like 10-12 'souls' to choose from, of which you can combine any three at any one time. On top of that, you can 'save' build, and experiment with other 'soul' combinations and trees and literally find the perfect set up for your play-style. With the Dreamsoul digital expansion, literally every archetype can fulfill literally any role in the game. Yes, clerics, or even mages, can tank, Mages even warriors can heal, all have great DPS spec's if that is your thing and Crowd control and 'buffing' is available to all the classes as well, IIRC, depending upon which souls you choose and how you spend your skill points. For sheer versatility, RIFT has got to be one of the best games out there. RIFT is also a great game for builders. There are now instanced zones you can buy access to and customize to your hearts content, creating your own buildings, and decorating as you see fit. Building materials and decorations are available from three sources, Craft them yourself, buy them from the Auction House, and some are available on the Cash Shop for RL money. Is it worth playing? IMHO RIFT is still a decent game, well worth playing, even as an FTP, with the availability of content and a one time purchase of the Dreamsoul xpac, you can have full access to literally all the content as an FTP player. Not a bad deal for those on a low budget that cannot afford to throw money at MMORPG's. (Provided you don't mind the bit about story wise the older content being outdated. From what I heard, though didn't play long enough in my most recent revisit to see for myself, is that the stories do tend to timeline jump a fair amount, so the content is not necessarily outdated, from an RP standpoint. Just about everything can be explained away with an "It happened in a different timeline." scenario. Some people would find this annoying, some would not mind it in the leas.). RIFTS graphics may be dated to some. I have not tried it since I got my new machine. so for my personal experience, my game play was always on low settings, so not the best graphics, though decent enough. It IS similar to WoW in a lot of ways, and there are a lot of people that call the game a WoW clone, but it has features that WoW simply does not, and the story-line is very unique as well. But overall, a decent game, especially from an FTP standpoint.

You have to subscribe for a month to get all of those basic things, like inventory space and things. All of the "vanilla" slots will unlock then and the rest you can buy with plat or with gems.

I loved playing Rift, I played it for a few months until some awesome loot droped from an instance and the game told me to buy the expantion in order to be able to equip it. I uninstalled the game that day.

The Meta for Rift for a long time has been ranged > melee... so playing a melee-type in PVP is asking to have a bad time.
