Join Jerry Turner and Al Sanders and the Eyewitness News team from WJZ-TV Channel 13 in Baltimore as they mourn and remember their friend and co-worker, anchor and reporter Wylie Daniels.
Wiley Daniels was one of the first successful black newsmen in Baltimore. He integrated television news at Thirteen when he came to Television Hill in 1965.
Wiley Daniels died in 1977.Unfortunetly I wasn,t living here in Baltimore MD in 1977 because me & my parents(both deceased)were still living in The Twin Cities Mpls.St.Paul Mn & didn,t move to Baltimore MD until 1981!! Truthfully I never heard or even knew about Wiley Daniels!! But for living in Baltimore 43 years since 1981 at age 9--I grew up in Baltimore MD after my first 7 years in Minnesota--I remember & still miss all news personalities from all 3 main channels who are all in the great beyond!! WJZ 13 RIP!! RANDY BLAIR JERRY TURNER AL SANDERS GEORGE BAUMANN FRANK LUBER PAT WARREN & RIP WILEY DANIELS(BEFORE I CAME TO MD.) CH.11 RIP!! VINCE BAGLI DAVE DURIAN CHRIS THOMAS CH.2 STU KERR JACK BOWDEN & SUSAN WHITE BOWDEN!!--SADLY THAT,S ALL THE PEOPLE I CAN REMEMBER FOR NOW!!
Wylie Daniel's seem to be a good guy. I liked him then and I see no reason to change my opinion now. I hope his family didn't have suffer to much. I hope everything was ok for them.
That had to be a tough day for everyone in that studio and around the city. Wiley wasn't even sick, it was so sudden. You could see Al fighting back tears after that City Council tribute. Sad day in Baltimore.
I'm thinking the same as you. I've put out a few requests to some contacts, let's hope I get some responses. You can be assured that once I get it, I'll post it.
Hi! Thanks for the question. Most of the stuff I have in my possession is roughly from 1994-1999, but I have a few outliers that come earlier or later. The other stuff I am dependent on is from a friend at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Movie Image Archive (marima.org), so if you're looking for some real oldies, check them out.
