I drove a garbage truck making residential pickups exactly like you see it here. One day we pulled up to a retiring teachers house that was moving to Florida and there were 71 basketballs in 5 plastic 55 gallon drums and 90 percent of the balls were in good condition and I mentioned to my lumper shame to toss them there's kids that would love a ball. My lumper looked at me and asked you in a hurry today? What are you thinking I asked. Down at the park there's always kids waiting at the hoops for someone to bring a ball. It was a poor neighborhood. So after cycling the packer we loaded all the balls into the hopper but didn't cycle it and drove 8 miles off our route to pull up to the hoops and there was the usual crowd of kids this morning was just like any other with over 60 kids standing around and waiting for someone with a ball. I stepped out of the truck and asked why no game? Finally one kid answered you see any basketballs? I then reached in the hopper and grabbed one and as I tossed it to him I asked you mean like this one? Then my lumper and I started tossing balls to every single kid. You should have seen their faces light up. Some were low on air but someone came up with a ball pump and within a few minutes there were two games underway at both hoops. When we got back to our route we found a supervisor in a pickup waiting. Seems people were calling into the office about us but they weren't complaining but congratulating the two of us. We each kept a ball for ourselves and the supervisor had a mad look on his face then smiled and said we did a good thing but could we please go back to work? We didn't stop smiling for a couple of weeks. Cheers!
Reasonable thinv. One time one of my comrades found a McNeilus AFE load of vacs, all of them perfectly brand new. He threw them in but then drove ALL the way to a Goodwill and dropped them off there.
I'm glad you guys had the foresight to understand the need for simple sports equipment for our kids. This keeps them busy and out of trouble. Thank you
Dumpsters you can raid recyclables from but this gets all mangled and goes one place only, the dump. Here in VT people put Free signs on stuff and it magically vanishes...into my garage hahaha
We have thrown plenty of garbage cans away. People would load a can to the brim with loose tile, rocks, and other extra heavy crap all the time. Guess what, the trash gets packed along with the mess that was in it.
Great footage of how hard the work is. Went to New Orleans for Katrina clean up, now that was some piles of trash and bust your ass doing just two streets a day. What’s with all the trash at some of these stops jeez
if you put that much trash out in front of your house in new York the sanitation will drive right by ! you have to cut up the wood to no longer then 4 ft. and tie together. other wise supervisor that follows the truck will right you a summons. ! you can`t expect these drivers to spend all that time picking that crap up off your lawn , that's bullshit !
It looks like some kind of special clean up day in my city on those days stuff is piled in the street and they use a tractor with a clamp too load the stuff into the truck a lot more efficient than this way
Wish we had trash service like this. If we did I'm sure we would have a cleaner town. One trash cart and one trash bag outside of the cart is all we are allowed. WM runs/owns our land field but the city has their own trash trucks.
@shakes 73 whoooppeeeee shitballs to your trash pick up. how much shit do you illegally dump somewhere ? tell the truth now. TELL THE TRUTH BRUDDA'S AND SISTAH'S AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.
where i live you have to tie up you garbage like the wood etc. into bundles. or they won`t take it ! these men are basically cleaning up these peoples front yards ! too much time wasted !
I have a feeling they only did it because they were being filmed, but yeah this is ridiculous. 1:17 They literally had to scoop up dirt off the ground with their hands, that crap should be in a garbage bag. I do stuff like that out of respect for them and try to make their job easier because they have it hard enough.
These poor guys are just cleaning up peoples yards of old junk furniture and wood. If you can't tie up in a bundle and put it in a can they won't take it.
Waste Management has recycling centers where all of their trucks go. They have big machines and people that sort out all of the recyclables and other stuff before what's left goes to the landfill. That's this companies specialty.
This was filmed in Bloomington MN once a year they have a spring cleanup where you can put any bulky items out and then the city sends trucks around to pick it up. It happens once a year and depending on which hauler you have, that is the hauler that will service you on the cleanup date. Therefore you can put as much out as you want without having to pay for it.
the "swinger" in the beginning of the video has definitely had time on a leach 2r or 2r2. guessing 2r2. Yeah, he's working his tail off, if he don't, he walks a lot more!
Is it just me ... isn't the big guy in first couple of stops not wanting to do any heavy lifting, because he seems to pick up all the stuff that has NO weight....lol
@stephen john gray oh shut up I don't c u doing their job but u call him lazy yea nice try keyboard warrior and trust me i do this type of work everyday
I guess "front yard" and "dumpster" have the same meaning in this town... yeesh 8:45... throws the whole trash can in the truck? I've had happen to me 3 times so far with Waste Management. Because... WMcares. Looks like nobody cares in this town.
@@sarfaraz572 I seriously doubt all the recyclables like the cardboard and the dual drawer metal filing cabinet were pulled out and separated vs being land filled. People are so wasteful.
@@abluto9240 u r wrong trust me I do recycling route everyday and I have another helper with me and that stuff does get separated at the transfer station
This is back when the collectors actually loaded everything and left curb in reasonably clean condition. Granted, some of these homeowners are very inconsiderate leaving all that junk in a pile. Regardless, the collectors in my area now use those automated bins, its takes three trucks now when it only used to take one. They sit on their ass and just push buttons and pull levers, spill glass and all kinds of other crap all over the street. It looks like a war zone after they come through. I called to complain and I was told the drivers are not allowed to get out of the truck. Sounds more like an excuse. I bet if something of vale was laying on the street they would certainly get out of the truck. How can running three trucks, four if you include the truck that picks up the oversized items, be more "green"?
Cry me a river that’s called Technology besides i bet you’re one of those customers that overfill his container and complains when stuff falls out when the grappler pick it up
I can't believe they take all that stuff. Where I live, they only take what is in the garbage cans. They never take furniture on the regular truck. You have to call for a special pickup, and they send a totally different type of truck with a hydraulic claw to grab and pickup the furniture. They don't pick up random stuff on the ground. Code enforcement would be all over you if you scattered trash all over the place. Sometimes they actually follow the truck and write you up if the stuff it too heavy or big. To all the people that buy new furniture, don't be a cheapskate. Have the new stuff delivered, and pay them to take the old stuff with them. Don't give the trashman a hernia.
I dont know what city those guys are in but everywhere that I’ve lived the garbage truck wouldn’t dare take anything outside of the garbage cans. The waste companies were always trying to rip off the homeowners with bullshit claims of “hard to handle” garbage, nothing over 4’ long, and blah, blah, blah.... If you take a load of garbage to the landfill it was the same thing . Believe me, that D9 Cat bulldozer at the landfill doesn’t know the difference between a candy wrapper or a refrigerator. “Hard to handle” my ass! They just look for a reason to charge more money. My local landfill charges a minimum of $35 per pickup load no matter what you bring in even if it’s just a box full of grass clippings and if the load isnt covered by a tarp they will refuse to let you dump there. That’s why you see a lot of trash dumped beside the road outside of town in the rural areas. I would never do that but I gotta say I don’t blame the people for doing it. Not everyone has $35 bucks to waste on a load of trash.
Yea he’s the driver not a helper besides that excessive garbage we’re i leave there’s a limit and rules we don’t pick up construction debris it’s house hold garbage service truck now if the customer shows appreciation we pick up everything
THOSE CONTAINERS WAS VERY GOOD I VERY LIKE THE RED AND TRANSPARENT.. 😯😦 GOD!! PEOPLE NEED THOSE THINGS AND OTHERS PUT IN TRASH TREASURES !!PEOPLE CAN REUSE OR FOR YARDSALES OR SWATT MEETS. 😖
