WMD Tricks and Tips - Using Auxiliary sends with the WMD Performance Mixer

The WMD Performance Mixer is an incredibly useful tool for the Eurorack Format of modular synthesizers. Built around live performance, it gives you pre fader cuing so you can listen to a track be fore the audience hears it, tictile faders instead of knobs for quick manual mixing and muting, as well as two auxiliary send and return loops for adding effects to multiple channels at one, both latched and momentary!
In this video, Alex walks through a couple of techniques he likes to use in his live performances. Techniques involve using Envelope Filtering, Delay and Reverb to add textures, momentary blasts, and noise swells for transitions and drops.
The pedals used in this video are the WMD Protostar envelope filter, the Empress Effects Reverb, and Empress effects Echo Station. What kind of effects do you use for your live modular performances?

Loving my mixer, in the studio I also use the cue out to send it to my rainmaker but you could also use it to send it to record :) super uself output

I love this mixer! But what I would love even more is if it had a pass through for each channel. Then I could use it as a front end mixer, but send the individual outputs (post fader) to my nw2s module, which feeds 8 channels into my audio interface. That arrangement would give me a killer "performance mixer" and also a much better front end to the recorded channels than various and disparate vcos.

I have been playing with mine for a month. Love it. I discovered aux. bla-blam. When adding the PM Mutes, isn’t the channel 1&2 aux send cv redundant since they are both on the mixer and mute? Thanks for any replies.

The CV inputs on the mixer itself are for the Aux Outputs, not individual channels. Meaning if you had 6 channels all going to the same send and modulate the CV input on the Mixer, all channels will be effected. If using the MUTES, you can control channels 1-4 independently. Think of it like direct CV control of the Aux knob on the channel, where as the other CV inputs just control the master output level of the auxes themselves. Thanks!

finally got one. so if i want to use my eventide h9 max just out and back in h9 and it should be work?

Try it. Start with the aux levels very low and work your way up to something that sounds good.

I’ve been using Phones out since I got used to doing that with my Make Noise Black n Gold system...is that bad ? And how exactly do I set up a reverb to affect all modules whilst having the Aux knobs turn the levels of said reverb up and down for individual channels ?

Headphone out is fine you just get the headphone mix so you can't take advantage of the CUE function. The aux knobs change the amount of signal send to the reverb so you aren't necessarily turning reverb up, you are changing the level of the signal going into that reverb. Just patch aux out into reverb and then reverb out back into the return. Put the Reverb effect at 100% wet on the unit itself so now coming back into the return, you're just adding the reverb effect and not a mix of more dry signal.

Hey, I have one and its integral to my rig, if I had one suggestion, Is it possible, when I use the combo on the mutes, to have the channels that i have selected to mute, do something like flash for instance? Its not always easy to know whether you loaded/pressed the button when live mixing. Sometimes i accidentally click it twice as well. Thanks.
