About 10 years ago, the Sci-Fi Channel acquired syndication rights for the original Star Trek television series. For years, the shows had been cut down to fit the amount of commercial time needed for current day programs (there was less commercial time during the original 60's run). Sci-Fi fixed this problem by making the time slot a full hour and a half. Dubbed "Star Trek The Sci-Fi Channel Special Edition", the episodes would be supplemented with original interviews with the cast and crew discussing each episode. The interviews and extra bits were especially entertaining since it featured more than just the standard cast but also highlighted guest actors, writers, etc.
I taped each and every episode as they aired (even though sometimes I hit record a little late and missed a minute or two). The interviews and extras really are neat, and since I've never seen them on youtube, I decided to dig out the tapes and start grabbing out all of the extra bits. I've found probably 75% of the tapes so far, and I hope to find the rest eventually. I hope it's okay with Sci-Fi if I post these. I'm just trying to get them out there for those who may have missed these years ago....
These are the extra bits from the episode "Wolf In The Fold". Enjoy, and be sure to subscribe to catch them all. Oh, and if you have time, check out my daily blog on all things Trek: www.apieceofthe...

One of my favorite episodes of the season. :)

This notion the sets wobbled or they were cheap is simply not true. The sets where of equal quality to any drama series at the time. Star Trek was not this cheap shoe string show like Doctor Who. It certainly didn't have a huge budget but it wasn't cheap. They made every penny count.

You're right. For its time, the sets were pretty impressive for a TV show. It was a relatively expensive show to produce and the budget was reduced in the last season.

I forgot which episode this was supposed to be about when they brought in actors from other ones. Are these really the clips shown with Wolf in the Fold, or are they from more than one?

@@sandal_thong8631 Not a single clip from Wolf in the Fold.

OK! YOU GUYS NEED TO STICK TO THE TOPIC ISSUE! Not go to to some STUPID tangent that is really not relevant to this episode!

But that was how the Sci-Fi Channel broadcast the Star Trek Special Edition. I remember it back in 1998. Interspersed within each episode were snippets of interviews that were totally unrelated to the episode being aired.

That’s messed up. Probably because Shatner wanted screen time. If they couldn’t get the guest stars, then use Doohan, since this was his episode. I am sick of seeing the professor who had nothing to do with it, talk about the series and the ‘60s.

It will be Star Trek's 50th anniversary in 2016. They should do a docudrama movie about how Gene Roddenberry developed and created Star Trek as part of the 50th anniversary celebration. The same thing was done for Doctor Who's 50th anniversary in 2013. They could first show how Gene first pitched the whole format and premise of Star Trek. Then show the first pilot episode "The Cage" being filmed, then being rejected by NBC, then the filming of the second pilot "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (where William Shatner first came in as Captain Kirk), then finally launch the series properly. And then they could show various moments during the filming of the original series.

To a smaller extent Clint Howards brother was in a show that has lasted about the same amount of time. Who doesn't know The Andy Griffith Show with Ron Howard? While Star Trek's fans are the full meaning of the word fanatic ( fan is the abbreviation of fanatic- a person with an obsessive interest in and enthusiasm for something,) Maybe you should ask your brother how the enjoyment of a show could last so long..
